If you are going to order online, you should get a sample tile sent out first.

This is a trendy look and lots of companies are coming out with their versions of this tile. However, some of them have weird textures and feel to the tile. It is like laminate flooring from 15 years ago. Yuck!

billl.... that's kinda like saying YUCK to wood floors that have been around forever. Mine is through body porcelain, not a printed on laminate... just saying...

Bill - why do you think it's "trendy?" From what I've seen, it doesn't really look terribly different from a wood floor. Do you think the "idea" is trendy, or the look itself? Also, from what I've seen (in person at Lowes) it wasn't anything like a laminate. Have you seen alot of this or worked with it? I'm really curious to hear people's opinions.

Remodelfla - I do think your picture looks beautiful. Is your kitchen being done by a contractor? Did he have an opinion on this type of flooring? I really think this sounds so perfect for me!!!

LOVE the wood look tile. Make sure you have a tighter grout joint to make it look less like tile. Havana is a great brand, DalTile does has some great colors. I've been very impressed. My mother in law got it installed (Havana Tropica Gold, I think it's called). Love it!

I ordered samples directly from Daltile for a nominal fee. My intent was not to trick people into believing I have wood. I love wood. Wish I could have wood. However, living in South Florida with a large "wet" yard, pool, and 3 little dogs; wood was not practical for me. We wanted low/no maintaince and loved how this tile looked and felt. We had the tile installed with a 1/16th grout line and used SpectraLoc grout. It was a bear for our installers but they were great. We used this tile throughout the entire house, including the two bedrooms. The house is tiny and it just kinda opened up the flow. Bathrooms have different tile. We did an entire gut remodel ... most of the work ourselves. We GC'd certain things... like getting the tile laid. We took up all 1200 sq.ft. of the tile that was existing (geez... I forgot how miserable that project was!) It's been a 3 year long ordeal and we're nearing the end. Thanks for the nice comments about our flooring. We absolutely, positively are thrilled with the look and know it was the perfect choice for us.

I wanted to try to revive this thread...hope that's OK to do? I've been doing alot of research and I feel as though I'm definitely going to be able to go with this material. I am still curious though of personal experience that anyone has had.

Porcelanosa has seven different realistic wood-look tiles, all rectified (needing
very little grout). My DH fell in love with the Roble Rojo.

Thank you Darbuka!! We actually have a Poracelanosa here in NJ. Is it unusual that there don't seem to be too many people out there familiar with this product? It seems to be the perfect fit for me, but I guess I'm wondering why it's not more popular?

we looked at Poracelanosa... they are BEAUTIFUL. If I remember correctly, they were pricier and we were able to get a good price on the Daltile.

We are putting Interceramic colonial wood(pecan color) through the whole downstairs. I haven't installed software on this computer to show pics. I love it.

My best friends daughter also has it but in Mohagany. Beautiful. She has 3 & 6 year old boys(they are super hard on it but you wouldn't know it)

I love wood but hated the scratches and dents.(2 teenagers and 2 dogs) This gives the look of wood without the headache.

I have a "wood" ceramic tile in my tv room for the past 15 years! Love it. And as stated above, you are not trying to trick anyone into thinking it is wood. It is just a really nice look unto itself. Our tv room is off the garage. Carpet there was a disaster as we use this door more than our front door. The tile is easy up keep and looks great.

SusieQ--are you DYI-ing? If not, it might be less expensive to have prefinished hardwood installed than tile. Plenty of people have hardwood in the kitchen without any issues.

Sabjimata - we are NOT DIY-ing. (As a matter of fact the hubby just got in from working 16 hours of over-time to help pay for the renovation!! He knows he doesn't have the ability to actually do the physical labor himself, but he's happy he has the ability to work like a dog to make the money to pay a builder!!)

But I digress - do you think prefinished hardwood would be less expensive than the tile? I'm not adverse to using real hardwood; I've been told that it's pretty expensive. From a practical viewpoint (assuming they both cost about the same) wouldn't the tile be easier to keep clean and maintain? This is all very new to me!!!!!

There will be eventual upkeep with a hardwood floor. Depends too, on how much scratches bother you. We are in this house seventeen years and have refinished three times. But the second time was because we chose high gloss when we moved in. Low gloss has a softer shine and dings and scrathes are not as noticeable. Our ceramic wood does not need upkeep other than washing. However, we have a light tan and the grout now it dark. But, I don't mind it. Wears like iron and looks great. However, ceramic is a cold floor. Wood seems to stay warm.

I love the wood ceramic tiles! I saw many while I was shopping for the new kitchen floor that I thought were great. My husband and I took a vacation to St. Martin this winter and the villa we stayed in had awesome grey toned wood ceramic tiles throughout the entire house. They were really nice. A great color (a blueish grey), sleek, contemporary, perfect. The only thing I did notice was that there wasn't very much variation between tiles. I saw the same knot detail in many of the tiles. Does that make sense? I guess they have a couple of molds, they're not designed randomly with different knots and lines and stuff... so if you look closely you might notice the repeats.

Views of Orient Beach and St. Bart, a huge master bathroom with a special light show in the open rain shower, a cute Ikea kitchen with island, DW, induction range, a full fridge and a counter fridge... the works!! If you go off season with three couples it's an excellent bargain! We love St. Martin and this was the coolest place we've ever stayed. btw, this is not MY villa, we just found it on the internet and loved it.

The pictures of the Villa are awesome - and I don't just mean the tile floor!!! When my kitchen is done I'll really need that vacation to the D.R. that we have planned in August! But again, I digress...

My builder did mention the lack of variation in the tiles. I don't have a problem with that. I also want to discuss with the builder the whole "grout" issue - I think that's a very important part of the process with this particular tile.

Every picture I see makes me more positive that this is the way I want to go. Thanks again to all.

we have the interceramic walnut colored wood looking tile very pretty shows each shoe or foot or sock print. I have tried evey cleaner out there and nothing works sad deal.
