Many of my neighbors drop by when I am having a sale. They often buy things too, so I don't mind. I don't like going to my neighbor's sales though... cause I am pretty particular about what I buy and don't like leaving without buying at least 1 item.

Sure would. Never know when you're going to find something you need/want. Our old neighborhood used to have a multi-family sale every year. The community looked forward to it and so did all the neighbors who didn't have a sale. We usually all ended up with some things someone else was selling.

As long as it wasn't my crazy neighbor having the sale, I would go. Neighbors have come to my garage sales and bought things.

absolutely. You can also think of it as a way to have more friendly conversation and maybe get to know them better. I think the nosiness is all in YOUR head! LOLOL

I always go to neighbors sales as well as others. We don't visit often up and down the street and I take it as an opportunity to say hello. Also, I am always looking to buy/exchange/give away books and that is a great motivation. And....I remember when a neighbor came and broke up a "huge disagreement" and I didn't speak the language; neighbor to the rescue, in other ways as well.

My neighbor had a garage sale last weekend and I went. Bought a ceiling light cover. I felt comfortable and she seemed happy to see me.

I don't go to many garage sales. If I did, I'd go, depending on the neighbor.

Sure sometimes that's the only time we really talk.

Yes, I have done so. Sometimes I look at the same old junk I alreasdy have, like kids' stuffed animals. Sometimes I find like-new stuff I can use, like a steam iron and a shower curtain still in a bag.

Heck yea! We actually tell each other a couple of days before so we can rummage through each others stuff before it gets picked over! We hold community sales, too and then we really get to do some shopping!

I would definitely go to a neighbor's garage sale.

My street is friendly - we have a block party every year in August and everybody knows each other.

The garage sale would give me a chance to chat/catch up with the neighbors.

Yes, I'd certainly go and do. My neighbors always let me know ahead of time when they're having one, I'm one of their best customers.

Yep! I love chatting with my neighbors every chance I get. Some of the nicest people I know live on my street.
And if they are selling some stuff I could use, a bonus for both of us!

My friend Andrè and I usually do one together and while we sell a good portion of our stuff, we joke that mostly we just trade our crap back and forth. lol

Like Patti43, we have a neighborhood one at least once a year. The town loves the neighborhood ones. They come, park and walk from house to house. And almost every resident here goes and checks out the other homes. One gal makes cinnamon rolls, so Mom and I get one of those to go with our coffee.

Yes, I have in the past. I don't go to many garage sales, but driving by I saw a set of wooden tv trays. I needed some, so I went over. I also found the BIG GF grill... 5 bucks... can't beat that. Works great. The tv trays were 5 also. I also bought a Ronco pasta maker, from years ago. The kind that mixed the dough and then extruded the pasta.. with 12 die's with it. 10 bucks. Would never had bought one from the tv but what the heck for 10 bucks, it was worth it. Makes great home made pasta. It was the best sale I ever went to.

Sure! In fact, I think it's a great time to catch up if you know them, introduce yourself if you don't, or have a connection if you know them a little. I think it's fun! I never feel like I have to buy anything nor do I think they have to buy something when they come to mine. It just makes for more fun in the day!

Sure would. We LOVE garage sales! And if you'd go to one across town, why not go to one next door? They might just have the perfect item on the sale :-)

Sure I would go. I would never even think of judging them on what they were selling, and wouldn't worry about them doing the same for me.

Sure, I would. I don't think my neighbors around here would have anything I would be interested in, but there is a community sale in the little town near here and I always find good stuff. I have never gone to anyone's sale to look at their stuff in any kind of a bad way....altho I can usually tell by the house if they will have anything of interest to me, and by that, I don't like the new houses in subdivisions, because that is mostly kid things, and I don't have children, but I love to go to the older houses that have little old ladies because I am more apt to find things that I like.

Well it turned out DH read the sign at the bottom of the street wrong and it was not the next door neighbor's house but one further up the street. We all walked up there, including DH, DS and dog. Tip to self: Don't take DH with me next time. What a pill he was, "we don't need that, we are suppose to be saving money not spending it" etc. DS and the dog were more fun and we met a lot of the neighbors we hadn't seen in awhile. We all live on 2-5 acres so don't see each other much.

And it turned out to be estate sale because the very old man (90 YO maybe) who lived there had a stroke and was going to a nursing home. He pretty much kept to himself and only met him once maybe in 22 years. The wife was nice but she died 5 or more years ago. I wanted to buy some of her watercolors of the yacht harbor but that was when DH started going on and on about money, and where would we hang it, blah, blah blah. Most all of the good stuff was gone by the time we got there in the afternoon except for the watercolors. It was kind of sad too to see someone's life laid out for everyone to pick through.

My mom loves to go to garage sales, many of which turn out to be estate sales. I went to one of those with her a couple of years ago and felt such overwhelming sadness--couldn't even picture myself buying a part of someone's life. It's silly, I know, and my mom is such a practical person who happily buys anything that she thinks is a good deal.

I go to estate sales a lot too, sjerin, and I understand what you mean. Living estate sales are especially sad. I went to one and a little old lady was selling just about everything and moving into her daughter's house. She wanted to tell something about every item. I like to know the history behind what I buy, so I enjoyed hearing about it, and told her I would treasure it. (At least, until my daughter has my estate sale....but I didn't say that.)

The question was, "Would you go?"
Sure! Visit, support their sale...maybe find something you can use of give to someone. I don't think of garage sales as people "checking our your possessions"...they're looking through the stuff you don't want anymore!

As for the estate sales, there are professional estate sellers in this area. You can be sure the family and close friends have already selected their treasures before the "estate" is marketed. It is sad when you know that the homeowner had to move to a nursing home and the kids and relatives didn't want their treasures. I think of it as a way for their treasured pieces to continue to be considered special.

Interesting comments. I would go-my nosiness would win-what if there's something I need! -but I prefer to go to strangers sales. Sometimes I feel a little weird not buying from someone if I know them, I don't know why because I think nothing of it if someone doesn't buy from mine. I agree with Marilyn on older houses, even though I have kids.

I sure would! And I'd even ask if I could maybe have a sneak preview the evening before!!:)

Hey...a customer is a customer

I love it when my neighbors stop by...otherwise I don't visit with them much...we all have busy lives and everyone in our neighborhood pretty much keeps to themselves...I also visit their garages sales as well...not to be nosy but to boost their sales and ya never know when their stuff just might be something I'll treasure! I would never ask for a sneak peak...I know how much stress I'm under setting it up and pricing it...having people show up before a sale is really pushing it and asking to put me in a very bad mood...

We live in the country, so I don't have the opportunity to go to a neighbor's garage sale, but I "have" gone to farm sales and everyone else would go also...it is always like a big reunion when there is a sale like that, and everyone from around will go. I would definitely go to a garage sale if a neighbor were to have one...

Only if I need to add any more junk to my already overflowing collection of junk! :)
