Dominos in our apartment because of baby... Part 1

I thought that perhaps there are other people like me here (who like to see pics of other peoples homes) so I'm sharing 4 online albums. This - the first one - is of the LR.

It's a 3 room apartment, probably less than 800 sq ft: The living/dining room which is long and narrowish, our bedroom that has enough space and the 3rd room that was DH's office and now had to be emptied of his things and converted into baby's room.

To do that, we moved the desk to the LR, after getting rid of an old monster of a bookcase, had 3 smaller bookcases custom made: 1 for the entrance and 2 for our bedroom, so we could start moving around our stuff and also got rid of a couple of white melamine "cupboards"(?) (my brother was happy to get them for his computer-electronics-lab/bedroom).

Of course our DD doesn't require that much space yet, but we thought "what the heck", better sooner than later and since we have the money...

I'd love any comments (that's the fun of sharing!)

This is the bedroom, where we added 2 bookcases so the bookcase in the baby's room will be our DD's later on.

You probably won't find any this time of year... the season for Hippeastrum bulbs begins in fall, and for our northern area, the bulbs can usually be found relatively close to Christmas. I've bought bulbs in January and early February, but the longer you wait, the worse the bulbs will be, potentially. It's always better to buy early, when the bulbs are freshly imported. I obtain bulbs a few different ways... I order from online or paper catalogs, buy them from local garden centers and stores like Walmart, and if I see one I want on Ebay, I'll bid or buy-it-now. When buying bulbs that come in kits, always open the box before buying and check out the actual bulb. Make sure it's firm and healthy, and if there's a bud tip peeking out the top, even better... as long as it's not too long already. I've been known to go through almost the entire display of kits at Walmart or Meijer's, opening boxes and looking for the nicest bulbs! No one has said anything to me yet, but I do gt some strange looks. I don't care... I refuse to buy cheap kit bulbs sight unseen!

I had two females in April last year. One Terrier/Lab the other Lab/Weirmaner. This after losing my third, a Shepard/Lab 3 months earlier. Things were in a funk and needed something desperate. A puppy would keep everybody busy. She is now about 90 pounds. Everyone get's along great. I did do a lot of homework before committing myself to this. Three dogs are a huge amount of work, and a puppy has what I refer to as "a force to be reckoned with". They can be very cute one second and incredibly destructive the next. Are you crating your pup when you are out? This should be done for at least the first nine months after you bring it home. If the crate is to big for the pup, put something in it that they can't destroy. Dogs and especially pups love the feeling of being closed in. It also keep them from getting into mischief. When the pup can't be supervised every second, it must be crated. Gradually wean the pup away from the crate after about 6-8 months. Allowing them to much freedom all at once will confuse them. If you scold your pup you need to do it in a way that the pup is going to get. One word corrections like STOP are good ones. They simply don't get babbling outbursts. You also must also catch them in the act. If this cannot happen, forget it. They will not know why you are upset. To get them used to STOP, crate the pup, put a sheet or blanket over the crate and when it starts to whine or do something you do not approve of GENTLY tap on the crate and firmly say STOP. After a few times, when you say STOP it will associate the word with the crate noise. Your older dog could see the pup as a threat on her territory. You need to make sure that both get the same thing, food, water, attention, toys, everything. Otherwise you are setting things up for problems. You are looking at a process that could take 6-9 months, not only with puppy issues but other things as well. When things get worked out, it will be great! I don't see any reason why it can't work. Amberley, I haven't decided on my doors yet, but Leon at Scherrs is a customer service dream ;-) Go to their page and "contact us" and you'll get an email back in no time (well, unless North Dakota is snowed under...then maybe it will take a while!) I am so doing the skirted sink. Anywhere I can shave money off my bleeding (okay, gushing) restoration budget I will. Of course, grain sack probably costs more than wood doors these days! We have a typical Shaw's sink, but I'm not entirely clear on the install. I really just want it set on a shelf with a drip rail below. I'm in the wilderness here without a KD and hoping I can make myself clear to whomever picks up our derailed project and puts it back down on the tracks. After New Orleans gets back to normal (next Thursday) I'm going full force on my project (I hope). Of course, the kitchen is way off in the future. Liked that blog. Why can I never find cute stuff on Craigslist?!

Mantis, I did read that Mac are going with a new common brain or something. Now abut those Russian Reds. I have some nice ones up in the seed tray. Maybe 5/5. I think seeds came from Rosco. Anyway, it sounds like a nice little determinate, right? About a 4-5 footer. Have you gorwn it and if so does it need a stake. Something in the grey matter says tree tybe and sturdy. If that is so I'll plant 5/5 in pots.:)

And how you keep everything uncluttered just amazes me. I'm going to pretend that an avalanche would happen if you opened the cabinet doors where all the junk is stuffed, just to make me feel better! LOL

I thought the same thing as Julie, that your house is so uncluttered. The only way I'll ever get that way is if DH weren't here. He owns way more things than me and likes a lot of it out in the open. On the other hand, I like to hide my stuff.

It'as amazing that you have so many beautiful pieces of furniture in such a small area and yet, it's not cluttered.

I always found it easier to use the crib for changing the baby.

I think the fact that you 3 can live in a 3 room apt is a feat in itself! I have too much junk. Looks fantastic. Simplicity...I love it.

Maria, I'm amazed! Three people living in 800 sq. ft., & everything is so neat! I've been trying to take some "before" photos, but I'd be ashamed to post them. Your "before" & my "before" are nothing alike!

Maria, you obviously have been working so hard! Your house is so neat and organized! We lived in an 800 sq. ft. home during the birth of our second child. Four people in that amount of space was difficult. Fortunately, since we didn't have much money at the time, we couldn't acquire much "stuff", so somehow it worked for us. You are clearly making the best use of your square footage!

Annellis - that's exactly what I thought when I saw Maria's pictures: "Simplicity...I love it." So peaceful! (Okay, I know there's no such thing as peaceful with a baby in the house, but the pictures look that way!!!)
