Comments (6)For a skip trowel, you still treat it as usual by taping the seams ,corners, wall to ceiling connects, etc. Some will tell you that you dont have to be as thorough with the finish coats, but you still want to feather out the seams to a flat surface as well as making sure the fastener dimples are flat as well. Even with a heavy texture i run a tape coat followed by two finish coats, a third where neede for difficult areas. There are many finishing methods. Here's a link and you can google drywall finishing for other sites: Here is a link that might be useful: drywall...See MorePrice check on sheetrock installation in SF Bay Area
Comments (4)I think you should ask the original contractor if he accidentally added a 0 to the quote. Ask him to explain the pricing if he says no. Any quote is going to have a small job premium. Especially considering your location. You also have to consider how messy that is and how a big piece of rock is going to be transported to the jobsite and into the home. That can be very difficult on a remodel. I can see where a quote from a new contractor, not an uninsured handyman, who is not already set up in the home with all of the dust protection etc could be close to half of that to deal with the logistics. But the original quote is nuts....See MoreHow do I cut a small section of plaster ceiling?
Comments (13)You will end up making a mess of your ceiling. Doubt it is plaster board. It is a full plaster job in a 1950s house. Make holes in it, and it will keep crumbling. Its not like sheetrock. Fix the hole you made, and paint the ceilings that need painting. I suspect the reason its creamy color is that is is probably white paint that has turned color with age, and that the ceiling really needs to be repainted. Seal all leaks with bin or shellac, and repaint the ceilings. It is not that time consuming, and doesnt all have to be done in one day. You should also be aware that 1950s plaster can and usually does contain abesteos. Please do not poke around in it. Plaster is a wonderful surface but is rarely done anymore because it is very expensive, and hard to even find a trade plasterer anymore. Because of the lack of plasters by trade and the ease of sheetrock use, plaster is just rarely done anymore. Take good care of the plaster you already have. When you hang things in plaster, drill a very small hole and use wall anchors to hang your pictures, etc., just do not go around pounding a nail into a wall, as it will crumble, and you will end up with a hole....See MoreHow to hang photos on a plaster wall with an angled ceiling?
