I'm glad you asked this because I'm facing the same thing.

I plan on repainting all of our trim in Benjamin Moore's White Dove with a semigloss finish.

Then I'll use the same color (White Dove) but in the eggshell finish for the built-ins, fireplace mantel and interior doors. That way it will match my wall paint will also be an eggshell finish.

At least that's what I'm thinking unless someone comes back with a better idea.....

i am doing the same thing as day dreamer. using BM white dove for kitchen cabs, built ins & trim throughout house.

I'm also glad you posted this question because I am getting ready to have all of the woodwork/cabinets in my home painted white. It seems to me that everything needs to be the same white if there are any areas where the trim would be adjacent to the cabinets (ie in my kitchen, a door frame is adjacent to an end cabinet). Otherwise, the difference in the two whites would be very apparent.
But I tend to get wrapped up in details that most people might not even notice (analysis paralysis!), so I am interested to hear the opinions of others on this forum.

I'm also painting them all the same --- doors, trim, ceiling trim, cabinets. The paint store people think I'm nuts, because I'm searching for the "right white." I asked my architect, "why don't other people do this too --- I very frequently see a decorator white for trim and then maybe a different shade of white for cabinets." His response, "Most people are not quite like you." Meaning, I'm super anal about those details and most will never notice, but I'll fixate. So, if you are considering this as an issue, chances are, you are nuts about the details too! I think this can look beautiful in the whites, but if your kitchen cabinets are a color, or wood, or even a paint with a glaze, then "white" trim is just fine because they don't look like they "should" match and don't, they are just different things.

I'm planning to use Manchester Tan for all of mine --- I have never seen it used for cabinets and trim, but it looks really beautiful in all of my samples and I think it will work well --- and maybe not show as much dirt?

Mythreesonsnc, you're painting all your trim and cabinets Manchester Tan? My kitchen is painted that color, and while I agree it is a nice color, or just reread your post - you're painting your kitchen cabinets Manchester Tan?

I can see how cabinetry painted a color would look nice with white trim, but I like the look of white trim. We're looking at a house where the entire house's trim is painted a light gray. It just look dreary to me - there's not enough natural light, so I would have to paint all the trim back to white!

But how do you get your kitchen cabs the same color? DonÂt kitchen cabs have to be done in some specialize spray booth?

So, does this mean that our large library wall and the open wall of shelving in the laundry cannot be melamine?
