This dog is driving me CRAZY!!!

Will somebody please come and tell Ruby that it is NOT time to go upstairs and wait for DD to come home yet? Every day she starts bugging me earlier and earlier.

See, when DD comes home Ruby gets her dinner shortly after. I guess she figures that the earlier DD gets home, the earlier she can eat. And since DD coming home seems to be CAUSED by us going upstairs to wait for her, the earlier we do that the better - right?

She keeps clawing at me and huffing and oomphing and spitting at me. AARGH.

I'll raise you one...

Mason decided to start showing me who's boss.

By marking on the end of my bed.

Every time I think I have that issue settled, he's marked again. I really think he does it because he's mad at me that I'm not home.

So, he can have free run of the downstairs. Upstairs is now off limits when I'm at work.

My sister has two dogs. Both are always on a diet, they are fat and lazy. One, named Roxy, starts howling for food as soon as it gets dark.

Glad this is taking a better turn. I refrained from comment intially because I am both an adopter and a volunteer with rescue groups. Yep, we all have serious jobs and lives and fit this fostering and home visiting stuff into our evenings and week-ends. I don't think three weeks is excessive considering that in that time the application was reviewed, your references were likely checked, a home visit appt was scheduled and completed, and the application was approved. Two weeks would be ideal given that most of the visits happen on week-ends, but during busy times when volunteers are on vacation, three weeks doesn't sound like 'forever.' "It seems that in their eagerness to remind me that rescue dogs come with ''baggage'' and that I may want to adopt from a breeder if I'm concerned about health issues, they are less concerned about finding good homes for the dogs than their own agenda." I suspect that their 'agenda' is a permanent placement for the dog. Although you say that you would work with any dog with problems, your requests do raise red flags that would trigger any responsible volunteer to have the 'dogs change, dogs have issues' discussion with you or any applicant. It isn't 'personal'. What you probably ran into were experienced volunteers testing a bit (given your requests) to make sure that the dog wouldn't bounce again. Obviously, they found you sincere and a good potential home, so please forgive them for treating you like any other applicant. Many applicants are not experienced and many really do have unrealistic expectations that no dog can meet and see nothing wrong with returning animals if they don't magically and perfectly fit into the household. What strikes me oddly here is that they don't have photos of the dogs on a website. Maybe you could 'give back' (whether you do or do not adopt the pup you're interested in) by volunteering with the group and taking photos of the dogs for display on the groups website. By doing that you'd be helping many other dogs and many other applicants. Good luck, and do deep us posted.

You've gotten very good advice from the others. I just want to say -- congratulations on getting a Manx! We've had two over the years and they were both as you describe, very intelligent and doglike in their devotion to us humans. They also liked to climb and perch in high places. All of these are common personality traits for the breed. All kittens are curious and like to explore. He'll get calmer when he grows up. We got a kitten (not a Manx, but very loveable nonetheless) about two months ago and he's been eating everything in sight too. He's now 6 1/2 months old. I think it's like having teenagers who are in a growing phase. They will slow down eventually.

Hair spray actually used to be dangerous. The propellant used was vinyl chloride. It was hardest on barbers and hairdressers since they were around it all the time. The danger was a significantly increased risk of liver cancer. I think the show I watched was called the Chemical Revolution. There was also something in maybe the hair dye?? that caused a surprisingly high rate of bladder cancer in hairdressers. (Obviously this is not a commonly occurring cancer.) When we lived in town we got to meet everyone in a three block radius, giving them the mail we had erronelously received. Of course, they got to meet us while giving us our mail, too! We had mail delivered to our driveway, complete with tire marks; one who always delivered the mail slightly damp (he had a sweaty palm problem, to put it mildly); packages delivered to the wrong address and when we complained, "someone from the post office went and picked it up and we don't know where it is". When we confronted the Postmaster and the mail deliverer about the missing packages and mail delivered anywhere to anyone, the deliverer said, "Well, I'm just human" and the postmaster backed her up! Now we are on a rural delivery route, and the difference is amazing! When we moved in, Bobby, who delivers our mail, stopped and introduced himself and asked the names of the people living here so he wouldn't be delivering the previous owners mail to us. If he has a package he honks his horn, and if we don't come out, he puts it in the mailbox if it fits, and on the porch if it doesn't. He is definitely on my "cookies at Christmas" list!

Conway has food and water down all the time. But dinner time, to him, is 10 o'clock at night. About an hour after that is time for his walk. And we're talking 20 or 30 minutes here, not just run outside, pee, and right back in. Little brat!

My mother's dog knows when it's noon because of the chimes on the clock and she gets a treat at noon.

My Missy knows when she goes out to potty, she gets a treat when she comes in, so sometimes she fake pees.

I think there are some spoiled rotten critters amongst us. lol

think cats are worse...mine start the minute they smell dinner cooking...in the am, (5 am yuck) since dh gets up to run, they think they should be fed...
my dd's cats are worse! they step on her face!

I agree, Cats are much worse! My big guy knows exactly what he gets and when. He gets 5 or 6 little cat treats when I get up, generally between 6 and 7. Some mornings he'll decide around 4 that it's time for me to get up and will start biting my toes - if I tell him it's not time to get up he'll go away for a few minutes and then come back and bite harder...or he'll lay on my chest and purr his loudest, that's what he was doing this morning...he weighs 16 pounds so it's not the nicest...
he knows he gets supper when I get home, which is normally around 5pm. If it's getting past 5 and I am in my office down the hallway finishing something up, the yowling starts.
I pretend I'm the boss around here, but it's just to make myself feel better...ROFL.

sjarz....Your cat looks and seems to act like our Toots. She does the same things. Toots lays on her back -like the picture- and crys when it is time to go to bed. She usually sleeps at the foot of the bed. Ours is part siamese with beautiful blue eyes. She was a throw-away, Wrong coloring. She is the best but we have really spoiled her. So glad we found her.

Sjarz, your big guy reminds me so much our (now passed) Tippy. I loved him so.

One of ours is a real ice cube freak. If we even walk into the kitchen he runs for the fridge and cries, he wants a cubie. They are all trained that when they get groomed they get a treat. They love their treats.....
