do you use a roasting rack?

I bake (roast) about one chicken a month. I usually season it or brush BBQ sauce all over it and just plop it in my 9 by 13 dish until it's done. Lately, I've been getting annoyed that I can't season the bottom and that the bottom skin sticks to the pan and is swimming in its own grease. Do any of you use a roasting rack, or is that one of those things that I'll buy and just toss in a cupboard and never use? Are there any other benefits to using one than just a more attractive bird? Can I use it in my regular 9 by 13 pan? I don't want to have to buy a special roasting pan... I don't have storage space for many more pans! I think some of the roasting racks I've seen actually fold flat for compact storage... though I've seen some with a flat "bottom" that do not fold as well. Are there any features or kinds I should look for or stay away from when shopping for one?

Thanks!!!
