What's your favorite dessert?

My sweet tooth is driving me crazy today. I'd really like a good dessert about now if I didn't have to make it. What would you have for dessert if it would be magically in front of you?

I'd answer, but I have to think about it.

Either an apple pie, or apple cobbler. I don't have any apples, otherwise I'd be making a cobbler.

What color are the curtains in your living room? My living room isn't finished, but probably won't have curtains when it is finished. My Aunt Virginia would always make this for Christmas. Choco-Date Cake Combine: 1 C. Chopped dates 1 C. Boiling water Let cool to room temp. 2/3 C. shortning 1 C. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs Gradually add sugar to shortning and mix until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time, beating well. Sift together: 1 3/4 C. cake flour 2 T. Cocoa 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt Add to creamed mixture, alternating with dates and mix well after each addition. Spread in oiled 9x13 pan. Sprinkle 1 C. chocolate chips and 1 C. chopped walnuts on top of batter. Bake 350 for 40-45 minutes. Cool, cut in squares and serve topped with real whipped cream.

My Dad was diabetic, as was/is two BILs. The nuts are a good idea, the extra protein helps the blood sugar control, or it did for them. They also liked this dessert, the pumpkin added fiber and the milk added protein, so it was slightly more balanced: Sugar Free Pumpkin Mousse 2 pkg. (1 oz. each) Vanilla or Butterscotch flavor Sugar Free Fat Free Instant Pudding 3 cups cold fat-free milk 1 can (15 oz.) pumpkin 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice 1 cup thawed lite whipped topping Beat pudding mixes and milk in medium bowl with whisk 2 min. Add pumpkin and spice, mix well, fold in whipped topping, refrigerate one hour. I've also made these cookies with Brown Sugar Splenda, and they turned out fine. Remember, though, that the Splenda used for baking isn't sugar free, it's just reduced sugar. And you can make them without the baking soda, but they're lighter with it. You can also add sugar free chocolate chips if you are inclined. 5 Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies 1 cup peanut butter 1 egg 1 cup brown sugar (I used the Splenda brand) 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 tsp baking soda Mix all ingredients, scoop tablespoon sized balls onto cookie sheet. Flatten slightly, sprinkle tops with sugar (if not the diabetic version), bake at 350F for 10-12 minutes. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen Truthfully, though, every diabetic is different, just as all of us are. Some are more sensitive to refined carbs, some to fruit sugars, it all varies. Dad could eat a piece of apple pie and not have his blood sugar go as high as it would if he ate a plate of spaghetti. And just forbidding sugar isn't really helpful either, because those white/refined carbs are a problem too. The nuts are pretty safe, maybe with some other snacky kinds of foods, like cheese and whole grain crackers and/or olives and if you wanted to add a low carb/low sugar dessert as an option, they could choose what was safe for them. A bunny cake, but mine is made differently. Cut layers in half crosswise. Slice those horizontally. Spread lemon curd and seedless raspberry jam, alternating layers. Set layers on cut edge. Cut a wedge bear one end - you now have a head/neck fir your bunny. Rajesh wedge and put at other end - you now have a tail. Frost the cake with Italian meringue, filling in shape with extra - it will gave a LOT to name a nice plump bunny. Take white paper and cut out ears. Use food coloring to watercolor the inside of the ears so they are pink. Stick them on the head. Use black jelly beans fir eyes, pink for nose. Candied violets are nice if you can find them. Dye coconut green and arrange around bunny - sprinkle jelly beans around grass. Real flower blossoms can also be added. i think this was on TV in the 50's when I was a child and my mother and I made it. Then I made it for children, now grandchildren. No bunny date thus tear - get home from London around 10pm night before and thus old lady no longer attempts heroics! It will be all I can manage to get to church on Easter!

The easiest, tastiest pie in the world--
CHERRY CREAM PIE

1 graham cracker crust (9")
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese
1 1/3 c. (15 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
1/3 c. fresh or bottled lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can (1 lb. 6 oz.) prepared cherry pie filling

Soften cream cheese to room temperature. Whip until fluffy.

Gradually add sweetened condensed milk (you must use condensed milk) while continuing to beat until well blended.

Add lemon juice and vanilla; blend well.

Pour into crust. Chill 2-3 hours before garnishing top of pie with chilled cherry pie filling.

I just made a sugar free peach / blueberry cobbler for Larry... I managed a small taste.. and it is delish !! I may have some later this evening..

As I have said before only two kinds of pie, hot and cold. Really pie is my favorite dessert. Butterscotch meringue pie, coconut cream pie with meringue, Hoosier sugar cream pie. I could just go on and on though. :)

A German chocolate cake made entirely from scratch would be my first choice. Second would be a good coconut cream pie.

anything chocolate is a GREAT option. At the moment I am eating Braums Chocolate Chunk Cheesecake ice cream. YUMM!

If I would be in Germany I would have a Granatsplitter! Those are just AWESOME!

I also love the Blackforest cake, made from scratch of course... or again, from a bakery in Germany.

Apple pie or pound cake, for me, don't care for frosting/icing. If I had to choose one more it would probably be creme brulee.

I would love some of my home made blackberry cobbler with fresh picked blackberries.

I also love a death by chocolate fudge cake with creamy chocolate icing.
However none of them are diabetic friendly.

I have to agree with monica, homemade tiramisu is the best. Does take time to make but well worth it.

I haven't read any of the above answers, because it was hard enough coming up with only one answer. I know if I read your favorites, I'd say, "Oh I forgot about THAT!"

I guess my favorite is strawberry pie. Piled high with whipped cream, of course.

It was a hard choice because I just love banana cream pie--and black raspberry pie (which I haven't had since I was a kid). I know I just about drool every time Sue mentions making one, though.

Now, I can read :-)

Freshly baked ollalaberry pie.....homemade crust with lard and butter and freshly picked berries.
With ice cream on the side.
Or a piece of apple cider pound cake.......best cake I ever made.

Haven't made one for a long time.

Although, RC's home made blackberry cobbler with fresh picked blackberries sure takes me 'way back to when I was growing up and I helped pick the blackberries and Mama made the cobbler.

I don't have a sweet tooth and never crave or eat anything sweet BUT...........

Probably a pastry from Tarpon Springs around the sponge docks, they have a huge selection of fresh made desserts.

Carol - when is ollalaberry season? I'm coming down. You will bake me a pie. :-D

Then we will waddle down the beach to burn it off.

I like fruity sweets over anything chocolate. Anything lemon and I'm there.

Favorite is cheesecake but it has to be to be tall, "dry" and plain, preferably crustless or with a pastry crust. No graham cracker crumbs, no fruit toppings or sour creme topping and none of that over creamy or worse yet gloppy,slimey cheese pie stuff.
