Comments (22)Went first to Sharp Shopper. Got some nice fresh veggies and a few other things. Then went to KMart. Got printer ink, and they are having the double coupon up to $2 again. I had two Hershey Bliss $1 coupons, so they were doubled. Yummy! Went to $Tree for a couple things, and then to Big Lots which is a couple store fronts from $Tree for light bulbs. Last stop was Krogers for Rx and groceries. Good buys on chicken tenders and stew beef. Used a coupon for free cookies: pound bag of Nutter Butters. Home to unload the car and put away the stuff and like GEM, I was pooped. I hit the recliner, tuned on the TV and went to sleep. You know how it is, you come in with a gazillion bags, and nothing for supper. Had leftovers. There are a few things still not put away and dishes in the sink. Oh, well. Again today, every where I went people were pleasant, but the conversations were mostly about having to count pennies. Weather was nice and sunny. Had the heater on going in, air on coming home. Caroline, that was quite an understatement. Made me laugh. Sue...See MoreWhat Are Your Plans for Today?
Comments (14)I broke down and did laundry this morning. Our w/d are in the garage and it heats it up so danged bad I've been putting it off. So now everything's clean and put away. Yesterday at Wal-Mart I got Magic Erasers since they had such good reviews here. Wow! Now I know why. I cleaned everything I could think of with just one swipe. Those things really are magic!! It took no effort whatsoever to clean the cabinet fronts and the outside of all the appliances. They are my new favorite thing! Then I started cleaning the garage floor. It's painted and it was really bad. I only got the top coat of dirt off, but I was just using water, no cleaner. It looks a little better anyway. Had to use a stiff-bristle brush so I quit when I got too hot. I took about a 15 minute "power nap" and I'm going to stick a pot roast in the oven soon for dinner, peel some potatoes and carrots to cook with it and quit for the day....See MoreI Think I am Finished Except for........................
Comments (13)Sue - I am impressed! 5 lbs of flour! I don't think I have ever used that amount even with a couple loaves of bread. And I know I haven't made more than 2 pies at once. You are the Pie Queen! Here is my favorite pie crust. I just started making this last year. Foolproof Pie Dough - makes one 9-inch double-crust pie - The trick to this pie crust is the inclusion of vodka. Eighty-proof vodka, which is 60 percent water and 40 percent alcohol, adds moistness to the dough without aiding in gluten formation since gluten doesn't form in ethanol. Although the recipe includes 8 tablespoons of liquid, the alcohol vaporizes during baking, resulting in a tender crust that only contains 6 1/2 tablespoons of water. Because of the extra liquid, the dough will be moister than most standard pie doughs and will require up to 1/4 cup more flour. Ingredients 2 1/2 cups (12 1/2 ounces) unbleached all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon table salt 2 tablespoons sugar 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch slices 1/2 cup cold vegetable shortening, cut into 4 pieces 1/4 cup cold vodka 1/4 cup cold water Procedure 1. Process 1 1/2 cups flour, salt, and sugar in food processor until combined, about 2 one-second pulses. Add butter and shortening and process until homogeneous dough just starts to collect in uneven clumps, about 15 seconds (dough will resemble cottage cheese curds and there should be no uncoated flour). Scrape bowl with rubber spatula and redistribute dough evenly around processor blade. Add remaining cup flour and pulse until mixture is evenly distributed around bowl and mass of dough has been broken up, 4 to 6 quick pulses. Empty mixture into medium bowl. 2. Sprinkle vodka and water over mixture. With rubber spatula, use folding motion to mix, pressing down on dough until dough is slightly tacky and sticks together. Divide dough into two even balls and flatten each into 4-inch disk. Wrap each in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 45 minutes or up to 2 days. Clare...See Morejen_easydinners
