Is this the faucet? (Your link didn't work.) It's a little higher than most faucets but it does have a slim design which I think is as important or more so as height to contributing to an appropriate-sized look. I do think the tall one will look better. Be sure that you have the room for operating the handle (a problem with any faucet of similar style.) Try to visit a showroom to see one in person.

I think it will look nice. It is not really a "humble" faucet, to my way of thinking, but is meant to be a visual statement.

I have to say, when I saw my faucet in the store, it did not look so big - a Grohe Bridgford. But once it was installed, it seemed huge. I love the functionality of the faucet and it does work with my deep sink, but I think I would have preferred something more delicate in my kitchen.

Try to make a mock up of it and see if you like the size - if that's possible.

Seriously though, won't you need a tall faucet to get much reach out of the sprayer? (Because the hose is contained w/in the spout, it's the necessity of function that is driving the larger, taller faucets.) I would want the hose to be long enough to pull out so that I could fill a bucket that is sitting on the floor or make the stretch cross counter to fill the coffee maker.

IMO, a lot of our reaction to the larger faucets is just the change; we're used to seeing smaller fixtures. Once we adjust our expectations, I doubt that the larger scale of faucets will look at all strange and the old smaller scale will start to look kinda' weird.

Hmmm...thanks everyone. Not sure what to do! I'm in faucet hell. :( The other thing I forgot to mention is that my kitchen is only 11x14 feet big or something like that. I was just wondering if having such a tall faucet (making such a statement) would be appropriate for a smaller kitchen, or does it not matter?

riverspots - I did see the deck-mounted version in the store which I liked a lot, but which did seem pretty tall and that was just the deck mounted one! The wall-mounted ones are higher since they sit up on the wall! The one you linked us to is not the one I'm talking about. I'm hoping to get one w/ two levers just cause it will look more traditional...at least if I'm going to have such a modern spout.

kitchenconfidential2 - that's what I'm afraid of. The other concern is that in 1913 I just don't think they had big gigantic faucets like that. While I'd like a relatively period kitchen, i don't have to have it be so precise that it's not functional, however if I can make it look more period-appropriate, I'd like to.

ci lantro - I don't think they make hoses long enough to fill a bucket sitting on the floor, do they?!

Theresse, I won't be much help because I LOVE, LOVE that faucet! I was thinking about getting it to use with my 1920s farm sink but suddenly couldn't find it and concluded it was no longer being made. I bought a Kohler HiRise in polished stainless instead. Unfortunately, my house slab is half-poured and sitting under snow, so I jumped the gun just a bit.

Anyway, I think that faucet is beautiful, graceful, just a little edgy, and would look great in your kitchen. Now I'm trying to rationalize using that very expensive faucet in my laundry room as that's the only place left it could go!

I like it. 15" doesn't sound that tall. (I first fell for a Kohler pro looking faucet that was 27"!! When I mocked it up using a bent over tape measure controlled by masking tape, my kids laughed, but I could see it would be too big.) Anyway, was your concern that the faucet would be up in front of the window? Mine is (it's 16" plus being mounted on the sink) and it doesn't bother me. It seemed big when we first unpacked it and put it in, but I quickly got used to it. I don't think the kitchen size makes a difference...I'd have this faucet again in any sized kitchen. Please excuse the very old picture and all the junk on the not-yet-finished windowsill:

Thank you both! But see the last couple of pictures show a faucet coming right out of the counter. If it's a wall-mounted faucet, which I want, you have to put it on the wall and up a bit so it's being higher just for that reason alone. THEN you add the 15" more of height and my fear is that it would just be plain awkward in my small kitchen. I don't mind it covering the window if the window were down low like yours, but my window starts higher up. It's not even blocking the window that's an issue (I have two windows centered above the sink and there's a space between the windows below which the faucet would be so it would never actually block any windows)...I just think of a brontosaurus's neck towering over the trees! ;)

But notherokie... I love that faucet too.

The 15" wall-mounted faucet would arch at about one inch above the bottom of the glass. The present faucet's about 8" high and has no bridge - it just sits flat on the sink, above maybe an inch or so of metal). Now do you see how tall I mean, for the space? Don't get me wrong...I want you to tell me you disagree with me. :)

I disagree with you. :-) It's just something new to you. Can you kind of draw the faucet on your pictures to help?

It's too high when you have to open a hole in the ceiling in order to turn the faucet side to side.

Theressa, have you seen Arlosmom's photos? She has an antique farm sink with a backsplash-mounted gooseneck faucet. Hers may not be quite as tall as the Jaclo, but the look is really lovely and vintage-y.

Theresse--There's another facet to your kitchen & one that I think balances out your concern about the faucet being maybe too tall.

You have high ceilings. Love that transom over your door!!! So, IMO, the eye is already drawn upwards. There's a strong but not overpowering vertical dimension to your kitchen--one where I think the faucet will feel right at home & not be out of scale in the least. And, from what you're saying, everything about the faucet is perfect except for, in your mind, the height of it. And several of us here are telling you that it will look great and that you'll get used to the change. So, I encourage you to try to stand back & consider the vertical aspect of the total picture. In fact, when I first looked at the photo, I thought that the faucet that you have now looked to be on the wee side for the space. Hard thing to do, I know--remember the old adage about being too close to the forest...

Anyway, I'm totally envious. I had a wall mount faucet with an old integrated backsplash sink years ago in our first apt. It's just a fabulous set up--so easy to keep the sink & area clean. So wish that I could have that now but my sink has to go on the island...:( Some of those old, old ideas are just timeless good sense!

When I first saw my gooseneck faucet and my Shaws farmhouse sink together, I was concerned about the height. It measures 16 inches up from the counter. That is pretty far.

Yours as a wall-mounted faucet might be even higher.

One minor complaint that I have - -the height of the faucet does seem to make water splash more because of the long drop. It is a long way for the water to travel from the faucet tip to the bottom of the deep Shaws apron sink. I am getting used to it - - and adjusting my habits as I like to keep the counters dry. The splash factor, though, is definitely more of an issue than in my old sink.

Love the Shaws fireclay sink by Rohl. Installation of the sink needs to be thought out. We had problems with the frameless cabinet box and the edge banding that does not match from Wood-Mode. Brookhaven frameless would also have the same problem from what I have been told.

I would imagine you are going to have more or less period cabinetry with framed cabinets. That will be nice. I have begun to realize that framed boxes are probably better for Shaws sinks, but, as I am no expert, I can't be sure.

Our installation of the Shaws has been problematic. We just finished reinforcing the sink base today. The sink drains slowly. We think we might have a solution to that now. We shall see later this month. Has to do with the plumbing of the garbage disposal.

We had problems with the Shaws sink and the air gap - the air gap drains on the counter. Are you in a place where an air gap is required for dishwasher installations? If you can get away with a high loop, that would be better. No ugly air gap, fewer air gap problems perhaps.

We have a separate sprayer in the sink. Very handy, but probably not what you'll want for a period kitchen. Clean up of the sink is faster with the sprayer, and our little dog loves his baths with the sprayer.

We put in a second faucet for RO (reverse osmosis) water. The second faucet looks like an afterthought. Wish we could have had better design work on this.

Overall, I originally thought the faucet was too tall. When I stand back and look, a tall faucet seems to work good with the exposed apron of the Shaws sink.

Hope that helps a little.

Then give up on that faucet & the sprayer & get an inexpensive plain Jane wall mount with a regular spout & not a gooseneck. The upside is that you'll save quite a bit of $$$ and you won't have to worry about 'Is it too big?'. All that & it will look appropriate in your kitchen. You can always get the other faucet later on if you change your mind.

I think the wall-mounted gooseneck faucet that you have chosen is wonderful. I think if you love it, you should totally get it!

In our last home, I had to pick a new faucet on the fly because after our granite counters got installed, our old faucet didn't fit. I picked it out of a plumbers catalog in chrome to match the other fixtures we already had, but I never measured how big it was.

Well, when it came in I laughed hysterically at how HUGE it was. I thought it looked "too ridiculously high" but I fell in love with how well it worked so much so that in our current home I chose the same one AGAIN...this time in BN!

It still looks huge this time around, but I love it, so who cares?! :)

Never is my answer. I'm putting in a new kitchen in a hundred year old homestead on a cattle ranch. I am tired of the Cowboy theme park feel of many homes here. I want a kitchen that really works with the latest innovations just like a cook would want 100 years or 50 years ago. I do want to keep the integrity of the homestead by using lots of wood and beams and some beadboard, but when it comes to sinks, faucets, and appliances, I want what works best. So I am getting a commercial type faucet that would be right for a country or city kitchen. Not traditional or modern, but restaurant style. Like the Dornbracht. These are all such fun choices as is yours. And they look like works of art. You have plenty of room and plenty of height, so go for it and have fun. Don't worry about the period correct police. They are Keystone Kops.
