I saw someone shopping in curlers recently. Maybe they are making a comeback!!

Hair tape was pink and came on a roll like Scotch tape. It had zigzag edges and was not very sticky, but you could put it on your hair at night or whenever to secure hair that wanted to go the "wrong" way.

The thing I dreaded the absolute most years ago was to have my hair in rollers because I was going somewhere that night, and to have to make a trip into town. I was mortified and ran that errand as quickly as I could. lol

This makes me think of a former neighbor. She said her wedding night was a disaster. All she could think about was that her new hubby would see her hair 'all messy' in the morning. She got up at 3 a.m. to put her hair in curlers and style it before he woke up.

I remember using that. When I was in 7th grade, I used to tape my hair to my face in front of my ears, so it would curl forward onto my face. I was so fashionable! LOL We used to put our hair in the big rollers (or orange juice cans) and cover them with a pair of underwear briefs...and SLEEP on them. Oh my...what were we thinking? I remember one time having to run an errand with rollers in my hair...and I got stopped by the police. I was SO embarrassed.

Yes, I remember sleeping on metal rollers. Sure couldn't do it now, but I have one place where my hair always sticks out and I thought if I taped at night it might behave better. Needless to say, we're past the honeymoon phase, but I haven't worn rollers out to eat yet!!! LOL!

Its a wonder that I have hair today. In the 50's , I would wear the metal roller to bed every night. Washed my hair every night and roll it on those rollers, had a hair dryer that had a hood that you would place over your head to dry. After it was dry , wore those rollers until morning. Life is so good now, being able to just wash my hair, fluff it dry and out the door. One night back in January we were watching footage of Elvis meeting with fans in the fifties. One girl had her hair in curlers and a net over her hair. Remember prom night in high school, the girls would wear their curlers to school that day in class. What we did for beauty.

I put it on my bangs all the time. Sometimes on my side "curls". Thanks for the memory.

Don't forget spoolies! I was never very good at getting the ends of my hair wrapped around those little rubber things.

mcmann, spoolies, I don't remember those. Looked them up on the internet and it mentioned something I had forgotten. It was an article about using spoolies, and putting noxema on your face at night. I remember slathering noxema on my face everynight.

Spoolies....I loved spoolies. It was so much more comfortable to sleep in spoolies that those brush rollers were. I don't think I ever had any of the real hair tape but I would try using regular tape and would get fairly good results...lol. I also remember the hair dryers with the hoods. My dryer that I had was in a white case and had apink plastic hood. As for rollers, I can't remember how many years it's been???

LOL My favorite memory of hair tape: Several of us that were rooming together in the college dorm used to drive to a truckstop in McRae, Arkansas, back in the late 60's. They had the best cheeseburgers in the world! One night we were in there and this young, good-looking truck driver kept looking our way, paying special attention to one of my friends. She was kidding us that he had his eye on her because she was the best looking one there. We finally told her that he was staring at her because she still had pink tape stuck on both sides of her face!!! LOL

Wow, lots of memories here!! I remember the hair tape. Vicki-lv, I,too, used the juice cans as rollers, remember the bigger, the better.. Aaaand I had a portable hair dryer with a hood that unsnapped from the base and you put it on a table and then sat under it like at the beauty shop! My sister had the portable one with the soft hood. Ratted hair and hair spray, it's a wonder my lungs aren't coated. I now have wash and wear hair. My vet friend cuts it for me when it gets too long to wrap nicely and go in the hair clip. We have a neighbor who still does the curler thingy. I see her around town all the time with her curlers and scarf. I see her more with them than without! Ah, spoolies, they were so much easier to sleep in but my hair was too long and I wound up sleeping with them in the bed after they fell out of my hair.

I've never heard of thr hair tape. My mom still uses 'curlers'. My dh and kids think it's hilarious.

I forgot about spoolies! My mom forced me to sleep in those rollers that were like bottle brushes. She used them too. Don't forget the awfulness of being forced to get a Tonette perm. How could anyone put a child through that?!? I always thought I was going to succumb to the fumes and vomit.

The pink tape was marketed around the time women stopped curling their hair preferring straight or straighter styles. It kept bangs from drying into little 'poufs' and made those little spit curls that were worn in front of the ears.

The last time I went for a hair cut I went to a hair and cosmotology school. I was so surprised to see ALL of the students and the receptionists wearing roller sets instead of straight bobs that are so popular now. I guess that is going to be the new thing with younger gals? Or maybe I just happened to be there on the week they were learning and practicing how to roll hair? I actually liked the look they were all sporting. It sort of looked like 'Little Orphan Annie' or like an Afro with some larger lumpy curls set into it. I can't imagine how much time these do's took to achieve or how they would hold up to everyday wear.

Oh, yes! The round-shaped hair dryer with the hose and pink 'shower cap' thingie. That was one of the most durable things GE ever made. Mine outlasted three refrigerators! It went to college with me and only died after DS had already left home. Maybe they stopped making them, not just because styles changed, but because nobody ever needed to buy a replacement.

I do think rollers may be in our lives again. I'm starting to see female news anchors with some 'lift' at the crown. (A pad? Ratting?) Maybe that will put an end to 'hair extensions'. There's one news hen at FOX with the most ridiculous cascades of long, dark hair.

Well, I have to admit I still use rollers (velcro type). Put them in, blow until almost dry, then take out and finish blow drying. I have never been able to use a curling iron without burning myself, fingers, ears. Surely I'm not the only one here using rollers.

I've read in a few articles that Fox news Sarah Palin uses a Bumpit. I had to Google the name because I never heard of it and wondered exactly what it was. If your hair is thin like hers you still need those hair extensions to have enough to hide the Bumpit.

Remember those heated rollers?

I finally got rid of mine, from college, a few years ago.

Mine were in a little box like a suitcase. You plugged it in and the dot on the rollers turned a different color when they were heated.

Ah, the memories, I also used those hair rollers in the 1950's and I wore a bandana over them tied in a knot on the top of my head. I thought it was kinda cute at the time.What's even worse is that in the 1970's I wore my hair in a sort of french twist with lots of spray and to keep it from getting wet I wore those icky plastic rain bonnets. It makes me laugh now to think about it.

LOL WOW Thanks for the memories. I used all of these things. My mom gave me my first perm at 6 months yes, months. A little curl on top. My Gma would do all the neighbors hair and if she had solution left we got it. She also kept left over sol in the frig for our next visit. I remember putting my sister and then my daughters hair up in a pony tail on top of their head w/ pink spongy rollers at night. When you let it down it was beautiful. Or my mom would leave it up and it looked like a little water fountain Ha Loved the hot rollers too and the tape was awesome for curlers on your face. My niece gave a bumpit as a gag gift this year. My daughter in law got it and LOVES it !!!! The good ol days awwwwhhhhh
