Esquire magazine interviewed Dr. Oz and one of the questions was, "What three foods would you take with you to a deserted island?" Here's his answer:

1. Broccoli (has a chemical called indole which helps the liver detoxify itself)

2. Walnuts (protein and omega-3 the good fat)

3. Beer

Beer because it has some carbs and is a good source of clean water due to the alcohol and the antibacterial activity of the yeast that ferments it. In fact, there's some thought that beer was first created to provide clean water--the alcohol was just a nice side effect.

Remember this the next time you plan a trip to a deserted island!! What three foods would you take?

We will be in Mexico this weekend and I plan on drinking lots of beer instead of mixed drinks with ice. I don't want to montezuma's revenge!

Assuming all foods were nutritionally sound and beneficial....

Land O Lakes white American cheese

Mixed Nuts

Probably something chocolate or sinful or both.

I have eaten it. It tasts a bit sour, and just kinda... green. Added it to salads a couple times. Added it to spinach cooked a couple times. Not my favorite wild green. I like Johnny Jump Ups (the little early violets) and watercress added to salad in the early spring and wild oxalis in the summer. The Johnnys are a bit sweet and just a bit mucilaginous and the watercress is peppery being a member of the mustard family. The oxalis is sour/lemony so a little goes a long way. For cooking prefer lambsquarter, usually mixed with spinach.

Maybe an osteopath? I don't have any personal experiece as a patient, but always thought their approach sounded wise. They are as fully licenced to practice medicine as AMA MDs, but carry the title of DO. I met one that was an ER doctor. This is from the internet: "DO's practice a "whole person" approach to medicine. Instead of just treating specific symptoms or illnesses, they regard your body as an integrated whole. Osteopathic physicians focus on preventive healthcare. ... Most of these reviews/responses are from people that only read and hear what they want to hear about the "HCG" diet, and probably anything else they don't understand! I think they missed the part about the maintenance program "resetting" your metabolism, and of course encouraging healthy eating and exercise. I think the reason why Dr. Oz stayed neutral is because it works! I will not tell you it is right for everyone, but I will tell you it works 100% of the time, for 100% of the people that do the program correct, how do I know...I have personally lost 110 pounds in 135 days, have contributed to a book on HCG, and have helped well over 100 people. I am not selling you anything, or even giving out my name, simply want people to understand that this works, but only if you are willing to give it a chance to owrk; otherwise find a program that works for you, either way quit posting ignorant posts and possibly disuading people from this or any other program that may help them, especially when you do not understand it! I wish everyone success, whether you choose the HCG program or not on a happy healthy life, and lifestyle!!...TJM

oh I see what happened I walked in when they were talking about her partners discovery of desmoid tumors in her body and having to rush her to the hospital and them dealing with that horrible ordeal. I missed the part where she talked about her own heart attack issue. I went and read about it. She was lucky she lasted through the night before going to the doctor in the morning, not a wise thing to do. She said her son Blake said Mommy you look very white and she said she was not feeling well and went to the doctor in the morning. When those symptoms are present with the arm and chest and neck pain she was having those are classic signs for a woman. She is lucky to be alive.

I think I'd go with Dr. Oz's beer suggestion, add popped popcorn and some mixed nuts.

Hopefully there's some fruit trees around and a monkey or two in case I get really hungry. :-)

If I am going to be on that island, I don't want monkeys, I want chickens! :) Also some black raspberries, and lots of iced tea.

Actually, it was rum that was used to treat drinking water. Rum was a staple on sailing ships and frontier Army forts in the US.
