Getting Ready For Winter?

I live in Minnesota and went out riding on Sunday. The air temp was 52 degrees. I think it is getting to be time to put it away for the season. Anyone else still holding out for a warm day or two (that lives in the cold like I do)?

I live in Michigan and usually have my bike put away by November 1st. I went on a short ride this past Sunday, as well.

I'm probably going to winterize my bike this weekend.

That should be a sign for all of you that 80 degree temps are on the way.

I moved back to SW Florida about a year ago, so I ride all year...please don't hate me...LOL

However....I lived for a few years in SE PA...I still rode in the winter...the cut-off temp for me was around 37 or so....I just layered, beginning with silk long johns, for warmth.
Of course...even if it was warmer, I never rode after a snow...it's way too risky...ya never know what road conditions lie around the bend, so-to-speak.
It only takes one small patch of asphalt that hasn't been exposed to sun to create a catastrophe.

Getting along. I suffered a stroke this past year. so Have been slowly relearning to deal with that. Some things are harder to relearn than others. lol Then I fell and broke my knee and ankle. So it has been a trying year to say the least. I have miss reading all of your post as well. I have been reading for a while now. Just have not done any gardening so have just lurked. What is in my beds came up from last year. Son will be here after I get a heavy frost to cut everything back. Sounds like you have had a great gardening year. Hoping to garden next year, good lord willing and I'm able!

This was my first year with SFG and I found I had to use some blood meal for nitrogen. My mixed compost was more leaf and mushroom than cow manure. So I am putting 'composted' cow manure from the store on top of my gardens to further decompose during the winter, so it will be ready to work in next spring. I harvested some lettuce this week.

I just got back from Lowes, I went to see if they carried fusion paint. I had the lady check the price of a pot, to see if maybe they were marked down. The price in the store was $26.74, basketweave looking design 18 inches. They had 2 colors, I took both to have her check the price. Sometimes things are on sale, and not marked. The gold one was on sale for $9.74, the blue one rang up $3.74, I bought 12 of the blue ones, for less than $50. Now I do not even need to buy the fusion paint, I can just start potting up those plants. Thank you Jim, I would never have gone today, except for the paint. Barbra

Mara, I agree about the 'river of denial running deep and wide' ... clever phrase. My river has to do with how much I can handle. However, I got the five plumerias de-leafed and up-rooted and the seven bougainvilleas tied up and moved to the green house, also the three ferns. Bob helped by carrying the heavy ones. Also trimmed some leaves from the hanging baskets making them a bit lighter for Bob to handle when he gets a 'round-to-it'. Edit: Bob took down the huge and heavy hanging baskets and hung them in the greenhouse. Sure glad that at least he goes to the gym to stay in shape to do stuff like that ... LOL Now just a couple of small things I can handle and we've got that chore done for the year. I'm sharing your happy thoughts Pam ... :-)

Oh yeah...I forgot all about the leaves!

Our big riding day when we lived up North was New Year's Day...it became a tradition for us...wouldn't go far in the freezing cold, tho...LOL

When we lived in NH we always had our traditional Christmas Day Ride, even if it was just down to the next driveway. Now we live in FL and have the please of riding all year. I'm still wearing shorts and sandals LOL I just hate the thought of putting on "winter clothes".

I see that your post is from last year. I rode my TGB 50cc all last winter here in MN with no problems. At least within Minneapolis, there is so much salt on the streets that they are dry all winter.

I just recommend a really good down jacket. The Sub Zero or Absolute Zero are both good options. A balaclava is good and nice thick boots and socks are good too.
