Kimmsr, I don't think you read my original email. The maggots have only been in my pile on two occasions: directly from llama manure and now from my "slop" buckets that I left in the heat a few weeks because I hadn't built up my new working pile. But well, it seems like one has to come to expect the bloody Spanish Inquisition on this forum ;-) And the reason I tarped to try to kill the flies was because I have an "urban" pile with close neighbors parking nearby my pile, and intrusive city building department quick to send out letters. Anyway, this forum used to be more fun, I wish folks would lighten up.

I use the Cook's Illustrated pie crust with a few tablespoons of vodka (brought to our attention by Wizard) and I haven't looked back. I didn't look at all the recipes on the link, but I don't see any mention of that concept.

I can honestly say that I've never seen the red raspberry Rubus idaeus. In my state they are restricted to the mountain zone. Here I am quoting Flora of Virginia about red raspberry: rare, in mountains.....restricted to a small area of the Ridge & Valley and Northern Blue Ridge. Atlamol appears to be correct. Wineberry in my OP is Rubus phoenicolasius, an introduced Asian weed. In areas where it invades it will run the entire length of the forest edge. It can also tolerate shade of open wooded areas. This one is a weed pest.

Several times I have looked at your glorious garden, and I still can't pick my favorites. Picking favorites is human nature, of course. But I do have memories of certain of your abundant blooms and their combinations that have really penetrated my old brain fog. I remember Peggy Martin on the fence, Iceberg on the arches, and Climbing Pinkie on the umbrella trellis. So, in those cases, the structures are an important part of both displaying the roses and preserving my memories. But in other cases, it was the combination of roses that was outstanding, like Falstaff and Iceberg, or the wall of "desserts". And how the special roses worked together was what made them so memorable. Sometimes the outstanding singular nature of a rose came through strongly to me like the huge size of the Yves Piaget blooms. or the blazing color of Chrysler Imperial, not to mention the age of the grafted CIs. Such an enduring rose that one is. So putting all these together, plus the roses' wonderful companions, has made many special lasting rose memories for me. Thanks for the memories, Cori Ann. Diane
