Does anybody have one of the stretchy chair covers & cats?

I am looking at some for my leather recliner. The problem I am having is that my cat occasionally scratches the leather. There are 2 cat scratchers in the room, so I don't know why he does it. My DH is not happy.

So what I need to know is If the cat scratches the cover will his claws go through to the leather and add more scratches and claw marks to it? OR are these things pretty thick? Maybe the cat won't like scratching it because of the give in the fabric?

I've considered selling the recliner at a loss (we've only had it a couple years) and get something fabric. I won't declaw the cat.

I don't know about those,but i'd say it's worth a try.My next door neighbor has all leather furniture and she made slipcover for hers because she has a chihuahua that's always on them,and so far so good.She's had them on for a couple of years.

Lydia they make a claw cover for cats I wish I could tell you how good they work, but we have dogs. I've heard people mention them at the Pets forum though.
I dunno about the slipcovers, but I wonder if it would stay on leather? I still have to check your link and see what it is....

Even if he's not shining the headlights directly into our house (which he does quite often) he can still see directly into our house. I know the perfect solution to this problem. Put several strips of light reflective tape across your window. It is cheap, easily installed and removed, should not block your view and will be very annoying to your neighbor! We have a difficult elderly neighbor who has done many things to pester us. Just one thing that he did........... One day I noticed strangers walking around my neighbors barn and outbuildings, I figured he had his property for sale and did not give it another thought. But after a few months, the strangers started standing on my fence line and looking intently at my property, sometimes for 10 minutes or more. The strangers made my dogs bark and I was rather uncomfortable with it too! I called my neighbor to ask him what was going on and he told me that he had advertised his property for sale which is 5 acres, and included my property into the sale price so it was a total of 11 acres plus my house, my barns, etc. I was speechless...I mean what do you say to an old person that does something like try and sell your property without your knowledge? I know that some reading this will chuckle, but we were not laughing. Michelle

Yes, mine has opinions, often strong ones, and I really appreciate them. He has pretty good taste, quite compatible with my own, and a fantastic eye for color. He gets overwhelmed and shuts down if presented with too many options - normally more than about five - so I usually do all the research/legwork and bring him the final three options I've whittled all the possibilities down to, and then we choose from them together (or he says "I hate all of them and this is why", we discuss it, and I start over with that input). I always feel very bad for the husbands who get "steamrollered", who would care about how the house is decorated if they were allowed to, and end up living in a home that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to reflect them - the poor bugger ends up camping out in what amounts to being HER house. I'm not saying that every room has to have taxidermy critters and hockey jerseys in it if he's into hunting and sports, but it's his house too (and it's rather sad how he's so often expected to pay for all this decorating that doesn't take him into consideration at all). He may want something as minor as not having a zillion pillows on the couch, or preferring landscape photography to antique floral prints. There are several men on this forum who prove that men can and often do have excellent taste in decor when they don't buy into the bullpuckey that the presence of XY chromosomes means they automatically have no clue about decorating.

I've had a Big Green Clean Machine and a Little Green Clean Machine for years. Both of mine have worked wonderfully. When my dog was so sick before he died he threw up on the carpet several times. I used the little machine to clean up after him and it did an excellent job. Mine doesn't look like the one shown. It's an older one. Linda

Does anybody have experience with Gemcore vinyl plank flooring?

Our flooring was installed by whomever the builder used for installation. I have a couple of minor scratches, but they were likely caused by something my 5 year old daughter dragged. We have Gemcore Onyx Huntington. We did the same - felt pads under all furniture and chairs. It’s very hard to tell when there is a scratch due to the texture. We do have some buckling and I’m 100% convinced it’s either installation error or a result of the new construction house settling. The buckling is isolated in areas and doesn’t seem to have processed over almost a full year. They’re coming out to assess Wednesday. We do love the floors and have them all throughout the house. They are low maintenance and super easy to clean. It’s a bit deceiving because you can’t tell where dirt is unless it’s a very light piece of something, like paper.

Nodakgal, I've heard of the Softpaws. Some people say they don't stay on well, others swear by them. I don't think I'd keep up with them though...they have to be changed every so often and you have to use glue to hold them in place. I don't imagine it would be very fun trying to put them on wiggly Winston.

I just olive-oiled a portion of the chair and it looks good for now. The oil will wear off though and the scratches will show again. I found that remedy on a Google search.

I used SoftPaws for a while on my cat, who has since passed away. I thought they were functional, but you really have to commit to the time to put them on and replace them as they fall off. My cat chewed them off and we would find little blue nails all over the house. He was a really non-tolerant, weird cat, though. My MIL has 3 cats, let me ask her what she does to prevent damage to their leather.

I went ahead and ordered one of the covers from Overstock. They had a 12.5% coupon good for only today which saved me an extra $6.00. I'm hoping it won't look tacky and will save the chair from any further damage.

Our cats shredded the corners of our fabric couch and recliner. I covered all the corners with thin plywood stained to match the fabric. Doesn't look that great but better than the shredded spots.

I want our next purchase to be mission style furniture so it will have a wood frame and just cloth on the set parts. Closest I can think of to "claw-proof".
