You could cool the soup and then use double zip-loc bags.
You might also purchase some of the "disposable" plastic containers available in most grocery stores...or better yet the dollar store?

Are you wanting to transport it still heated?

Heated or not, doesn't make a difference. If I use a large plastic container, they would have to transfer it to a pot to reheat unless they had a large microwave. That would be no big deal I guess. A thermos would be good, but I would have to buy one special as I don't have a big one. I'll look around Dollar General for a deep plastic container.

I use the soup containers I get from Chinese take out. You can use several and they can put in microwave individually and heat up just what they want.

I just use big jars. I also have some large plastic storage jars that I use for flour and that sort of thing and they work fine......

Just go to your local bar supply store and buy a sleeve of quart-sized deli containers, and the lids. They're cheap. At about .15 each, you won't have to worry about getting them back. One sleeve has 50 containers, so for well under $10, you'll be set for a long time to come.

I'd strongly recommend against ziplock bags. They don't always seal well enough for liquids.

Definitely something that seals very well, Mason jars would be a good choice even if it took a few of them.
Or your could put it in ziplock bags and freeze it then transport it frozen. I would not try anything cheap or flimsy that could pop the lid in transport.
A case of mason jars is cheap and can be bought at most any grocery store.

I have some half gallon glass canning jars that are great for that. I don't know if you can still buy half gallon size though, but you can buy quart ones. But you may not want to leave those either. I would go for the freezer bags, gallon or whatever, chill and stand upright in a cooler and take, they can dump them out into their own pots or pans.

If you are not too far away from them could you slip buy and ask one of the girls if they could give you a pot, kettle, container to bring the gentleman some chowder so you will not have to freeze it to transport it?
Just explain that you only have one of that size and it would be easier than them having to return it or you waiting to retrieve it. If it is chowder would you even want to freeze it? Are they not cream and butter?

All good ideas, thanks. I think I will divide the pot of soup into 16oz. plastic containers or such with strong lids and deliver it that way - cooled, not frozen. Yes, threejs, I make my salmon chowder or salmon soup as I call it, with milk and butter. All this talk about it makes me hungry for it,too!

I forgot to tell you that the gallon size plastic jars I use are from the dollar store and I paid $2 each..well worth the money and they are easy to transport with a screw on lid.

Son's lady friend gave me at Christmas a voucher for a bowl of soup per month for 6 mos.

She sent a deep, rectangular tub with rounded corners that held about a half dozen bowls of soup, with room to spare ... that was, I figure, the first installment ... I don't think that it'd last through all of those six months?

The lid might not hold too well if it were tipped over, especially with some force.

I need to clean it and return it, as I used the last of the soup last night. Froze some.

Go to a larger Walmart and look at their kitchen wares. The larger stores have a selection of large, inexpensive containers.

Why not check with some local delis, bakeries, even gas station food service places or something to see if they have any gallon sized pickle jars or something? Those things are great. Tight sealing lids. They'll have plastic ones too but I like the glass ones for flour and other storage. Clear to see what's in them and a good seal.

I'll have to check around at eateries for ideas on containers. Thanks a bunch!
