I have prescription computer glasses. They cost over $200. They are great as for relieving that neck pain. I would like to try the Peekers though if and when I need a new prescription.

Flamey, what do you mean by optical place? Ophthalmologists, WalMart, Opticians? Would like to take a look at them somewhere.

Thanks for the tip Flamey. I am currently going through physical therapy and multiple meds trying to deal with spinal stenosis in my neck, one of my problems is having to bob my head all day to design on my computer.

What optical store did you find them in? I don't see any mention of dealers on the PC Peekers web site.

I have a pair of Dollar Store reading glasses (in a power that would be the same as tri-focals on me.) They make that wonderful difference. If I forget to switch to them when I sit at the computer, in a short time I have an acheing neck.

My regular glasses are bi-focals, with the top portion for distance and the lower portion for reading. The computer is a little farther away, so the strength of the dollar store glasses(150) is just right. Without them I can't read the computer with the distance part, and with the reading part I need to move my head closer and then tilt it back. "CRUNCH!"

Measure the distance to the monitor and then try reading at that distance when you try glasses.
For only one dollar a pair, I just brought home three different strengths of glasses and tried them out at home. Then I just stashed away the others, in case me eyes change. LOL also, for only $1.00 you can pick out some wild and flashy glasses, because you only use them at home.

You're right having special glasses makes a big difference.

I found them at our local optical place, it's attached to the opthamology clinic, a rather large place in our area. It's not one of the stores like Lenscrafters, but they may carry them, I don't know. I'm sure you could call around and find someone who sells them in your area. Or order them from the web link, if you have to.

I'll try Woody's when he gets them, I may never have to order new computer glasses again, either, Sue. Also, I just got new regular glasses and since they're a tiny bit bigger than my old ones, the bifocal is bigger so I can actually use them to compute, too, which is really nice. (For $600+ bucks, they ought to wash my dang dishes!)

I have a pair of Compuvu's that my dd made me. They're wonderful. They're a pair with progressive lenses where the top of the lens is the prescription I need for viewing the monitor, and the bottom is formulated for close (paper) work. That brand of lens has virtually no side distortion--which you get with most progressive lenses. DD gave them to me as a gift--partly because she wanted to play around with the new lenses when they came out--so I don't know the cost, but I do know they are more than $30-40. You may want to do a little comparison shopping to see what options you have, and which are the best for your health. I'm not sure I'd go with a $30 pair of glasses for computer work--but I'm going by what I generally have to pay for my glasses to get the kind of correction I need. (my regular, everyday glasses with progressive lenses and decent frames cost about $1000 retail, over $200 at cost)

I have the $1 ones from the Dollar Tree. I've found the perfect prescription for me when looking at the monitor, keyboard, or writing at the desk while computing.

I wear progressive lenses and do not feel to need to tilt my head. My glasses are very small though - maybe that makes the difference?? I also wear them down on my nose a bit. Why are the rest of you having to tilt your head? I'm glad I don't have the problem, just trying to understand why some peeps do.

When I wore my progressive lenses (Bificals) I could see the keyboard fine, but had to tilt my head way back to see through the bottom part to see the screen.

I'm guessing it would have a lot to do with the placement of the monitor. The top of my screen as just a little below eye level.

I just have all my TYPE in BIG letters. Big enough to see with the top portion of my glasses. :)

As is, I spend way to much on glasses. Regular bifocals, with the magnetic add ons for sunglasses, biking/sports glasses with bifocal so I can read maps, and plain ole distance glasses I use while vacuuming. Vacuuming was a lot harder for me, till I got the last prescription, and the "vacuum glasses".

I'm afraid those would really mess me up, I have to wear the no lines because I've been known to trip over the lined ones lol for some reason I can see that line and it really messes with my head........

Sue, that's how the top of my monitor screen is - I took the base off mine so it would sit at that level - I have trifocals, and don't have a problem now.

Just a tip for those concerned about the price of buying the appropriate glasses--be they computer glasses or any other kind.

See if you can go to the dispensary at the school where opticians train in your area (assuming you don't live in PA--you don't need to be certified there, so they don't have opticianry school, unfortunately). At any rate--my 'everyday' glasses--designer frames with magnetic sunglasses, highest end progressive lenses, non-glare coating--would cost, between $800-1000 if I bought them in DD's shop (before the family discount). But I go to the college and order my glasses at cost--and this last pair was $213, before my insurance paid a portion. Huge savings, if you can buy your glasses at the local opticianry college.

I wear progressive lenses. My old glasses had a very small bifocal/midrange area and to properly see the monitor, I was tipping my head way back to use the bottom of the lenses and sometimes I was pushing my glasses up so I didn't have to tip back so far. It was truly damaging my neck and giving me headaches. So when I got my eyes examined, I asked for a Rx for computer glasses. And they're great! The top part of the lenses are good for about arm's length plus a few inches. The bottom is for reading and keyboard. Perfect also for sewing, I can even watch TV in them, but the clarity is a little less than perfect. Since I used frames I already had, they didn't cost too darn much, but still weren't cheap since I have to get high-index lenses, so they'll be a bit thinner. And I don't know of any optical schools here in our area, so the local optical places are my only choices.

What I thought was so great about these PC Peekers is their price and the convenience of them, portable but not permanent. If you wear glasses and have trouble seeing your monitor with your glasses on, I think these would be a great, affordable solution.
