If you do your own tax's, have you done them online? Which company do you like to use?

Yes, it's been very easy. I use IRS dot gov, they lead you into free filing sites. The one I use is Free Tax USA. I have gotten my refund checks very fast.

Turbo Tax - it is so easy, even the year I I sold a rental property.
I got tired of gathering up all the scraps, of paper, going to the tax preparer and feeding her the information as she used her program and paying her $100.

Palatine or Pickering. Pickering has an amazing list of old roses too (they offer 900+ roses every year). Both websites are on for browsing with the exception of the new listings and the prices. The new additions probably will be listed in August or early September and from that point on they will accept orders. Both nurseries ship both in fall and spring. Minimum order is 3 roses.

Sending additional divisions is fine, as long as one has enough of a given hosta to do so and it is economically feasible. However, some hostas, especially newer varieties, are in high demand, but even after 2 years in the garden may remain large, single divisions. Thunderbolt and Dream Queen are perfect examples, with 2 years growth in the garden, they will be thick, stocky single divisions with very good root systems. Obviously it's not possible to send 2 or 3 divisions for the price of one. Montana Aureomarginata is another example, as it's one of my favorite hostas, but very slow to gain size and add divisions. I routinely have divisions of this one that are 2-3 years old, almost 2 feet tall, but still single divisions with good roots. Oddly enough, Blue Mouse Ears is another variety that is quite slow to throw additional divisions. Most minis are prolific once they are established, but I have a bunch of these that will be 3 years old this spring, and last year I checked and found that these large, stocky single divisions all have roots that are profuse, thick, and up to 12 inches long. Some have 2 eyes, but not a one has put out a second division with it's own root system. Again, this is a situation where one would have to dig up and ship 2 or 3 entire plants in order to send extra divisions. On more common, prolific hostas, most reputable sellers will send multiple divisions, and root systems should be good. However, some of the better known nurseries routinely send a single division, and when you look at the Hosta Finder, the price listed is always for a single division. If you do mail order, always be sure you specifically ask what size plant will be shipped to avoid disappointments. Like most people, I prefer to buy my hostas in person, so I can see exactly what I'm getting. And I'm the sort of customer who does not hesitate to gently tip a hosta out of it's pot to check the root system before I buy a plant. You will too often find that large, lush "bargain" hostas sold by places that don't specialize in hostas will have very poor root systems in spite of having multiple divisions with profuse foliage. This generally indicates that the plants have been treated with a chemical such as DAP that forces heavy foliage growth, but at the expense of root growth. And it's the roots you are really buying, not the foliage. Finally, if you prefer not to receive any free plants with an order, by all means let the seller know. I think most sellers would be delighted not to waste a plant on a customer who doesn't want it.

If you paid for with a Visa Card, you will have an easy solution to your problem. While most customers do not know this, you can reject a purchase made on your Visa card for any of the following reasons by doing a Chargeback on your card: * Visa REQUIRES a merchant to have your signature on the order. If you did not sign a purchase order that clearly states the terms of sale in print that is 1/4" or higher on the form, you will win the chargeback. * Visa REQUIRES the merchant to prove delivery not only to the cardholder's billing address, but also to the individual whose name is on the card. If they delivered to your spouse, or did not get your signature on it, the transaction can be cancelled. * Visa will allow you to cancel any sale where the goods were misrepresented. You do not even have to return the goods - it's the merchants duty to collect them up. Here is what happens when you begin a chargeback. The purchase price is immediately credited to your account and a dispute is opened. This is automatic. The merchant has those funds deducted from their account and receives notice along with a $ 35 chargeback fee. The Merchant then has 10 days to counter. If they do counter, then the funding is reversed once again and you will get a new charge on your account. You will then have to follow up with another letter describing why you feel your chargeback is justified. Now the funds are reversed AGAIN and taken from the merchant a second time. At this point, if the merchant chooses to respond a second time the case goes to review. In almost all instances the customer wins the dispute over the two signature and terms of sale agreement described above. Consult your Visa Card issuer for more details.

We like getting a refund. We err on the side of putting alittle extra in so if something comes up, we still won't owe. For instance my DH was unemployed 1/2 the year, because we put in extra through the year we should be ok and not owe. I hope... still waiting to hear back from acct. Since we are not sure yet if we are getting money back or paying, I can't really say. Generally every year we pay off any outstanding bills, last year it was credit card, one year we used towards the expenses of SD wedding.

I am a TurboTax user as well, and have been since the 1990s. Initially I bought the software package (CDs), but now I just do them using their online product. It is very simple to use and touches all the bases.

I do mine online. Four years ago I paid someone $100 to do my taxes online. I can do it myself.

I download the Turbo Tax Premium every year(very reasonable and includes state tax return), then file electronically...I would never use an on-line interactive system to enter a tax return.

We've used TaxSlayer.com for several years... never had any problems. We always did the electronic filing through them, I think it cost us between $10. and $20. (that was for both federal and state).

This year we'll be going to a tax expert since we cashed in a lot of bonds for DD's college. Once DD is out of school we'll be back with TaxSlayer.

Monica, it does look like Taxslayer might be having some issues this year... but I never had any problem with them in the past.

The link you provided is a complaint only website, a more basic search on that site brings up complaints about all the tax preparers.

I have used TaxAct for years, and pleased with it. I paid $13.95 total for federal and state electronic filing. I think there is a free version also, but we had capital gains, so we needed the deluxe version.

I have TurboTax in the past, but prefer TaxAct...just personal preference.

Our DS uses TurboTax to prepare his taxes. We use a CPA. He finds deductions I'd never think to pursue, and when our state (repeatedly) makes mistakes READING our returns, he fields all that stickytape for us.

I've used TaxAct for 3 years now...so quick and easy...I already filed and my return was deposited on Thursday.

We are fortunate to have our own accountant in the family. DD runs her own tax service aside from her regular job.

Short story. Several years ago a young woman came to her for the first time. DD offered to drop off her finished taxes at her home since it was on the way. Girl's dad asks her why she went to DD instead of the "name brand" chain of tax preparers he and wife used. The young woman said "look what I'm getting back". LOL He was impressed enough to take his taxes to DD the next year. Sure enough he ended up a happy camper and has been a loyal customer.

A good accountant can find savings where the others don't bother to go. They stay current on tax law and also are knowledgeable at helping you plan for the following years etc. The one size fit all programs don't do that. They will always err towards the government. A good accountant will find the legal loophole to save you money if there is one.

By the way, E-filing is only free if your income is under $57,000. If you make more, you have to pay to file. Might be worth filing on paper and mailing it in.

We use TaxAct, also. Used to use Turbo Tax but my brother warned me off of them as at that time, they were putting all kinds of unnecessary junk into their programs that would end up in my computer. Now that we've used TaxAct for several years and they have all our info stored, it's just so easy to stay with them. We e-file state and fed for about $20, I think.
