But I just wanted to ask, have you looked at the Fireplace thread in the Gallery? You might get some great ideas from the photos posted there.

The shelf over the TV seems to be too even with your mantle.

I think all the white on the shelf is taking the focus off your pretty fireplace.

I think you put your finger right on the problem. All that white is sucking the eye to the tv. Decorators always try to play down the tv and play up the fireplace. White and or jewel tones might draw the eye to the fireplace. I'd put more earth tone goodies over the tv.

I agree about the white. When I first looked at your picture it took me several moments to even find your fireplace mantel, it just disappeared into the dark mirrors - it's so dark on the FP side and so light colored on the TV side that my eye just couldn't focus well on anything except the pottery.

Will the white pottery fit on the mantel? Maybe some on the mantel and some on the hearth? Perhaps a white bowl or something on that dark brown wood box thing sitting on the right side of the hearth (sorry, I can't tell what it is). Can you move the bird cage off the hearth, or at least down further from the FP opening?

Thanks for the input...but what do think about maybe a large mirror with a distressed white frame leaning against the mirrored wall and a few off white accessories on either side - like maybe candlesticks, finials, or pottery of some sort. Some photoshop help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I think adding mirror (even with a white frame) above the mantle will only reflect more of the wood from across the room or ceiling and would not achieve a lighter look. For me, I would remove the existing wall of mirrors and the boxy framed ones and use some large light colored accessories on the mantel and on the side of the hearth where the birdcage currently resides.

Charle7, the mirrors do make it look like a dark hole over your FP. I don't agree that you need to remove the mirror already attached to your wall, but I do think the framed mirrors should come down and that you need to add a lot of light colored accessories to that side of the room.

I'd put your best and biggest piece in the middle (you could also stick something interesting inside to make it taller and more colorful), and the rest of your ideas sound great. Maybe a white framed mirror could work if you put something large in front of it - you need to get rid of that tunnel look and dark reflection.

You'll also need to bring down some of the lighter colors to the hearth, and possibly bring some of the darker colors over the the TV area (mixed with light).

How about some blues accents to go with your furniture? More blue in the hearth rug and around the room would look great I think. Would go nicely with your framed needlework, too.

Could you try moving some of your stuff around and snapping another pic for us to look at? I think you have a lot you can already work with.
