Fireplaces Home Decorating Design Dilemma

Help! We can’t decide what looks best on height of mantle. I like the first one ( we use mock up cardboard of size of mantle) but my hubby thinks that may be too high? Both heights fell within code of 12-18” distance from box. I also posted a picture of fireplace similar to ours and that seems higher. What do you think?

Hello everyone! Thank you for the replies! We went with #1! I will need to get some items to decorate it but for now I put a few items on top to show depth and height of it. I think we need a bigger picture frame and maybe add some holiday decor but so far we are very happy!

I like grovers second drawing better. The first one looks top heavy to me. Love Cps fireplace. i mimicked CPs proportions somewhat although mine is not craftsmen style. Very nice proportions imo. My fp sits on the floor and I have 7" of black metal on the bottom. It will be tiled just like the top and sides.

I think it needs to be higher. We have a stone FP and the mantle is

5‘ 6 “ high to the top of the mantle...Our ceiling is 8 ft. I’ll get you a pic

if you want to see a higher mantle on a stone FP. Our mantle also is

plain without brackets.

Is your ceiling 8 ft. high?

edit: forgot to mention I think your mantle width and thickness is perfect

for your FP.

No higher than #1 or there is not enough room if you would like to place something above the mantel. Not any lower or the mantel is too close to the heat.

By itself, I like the first choice, but I think it can depend a little bit on what you plan to put on/above it.
