I have 2 leeks....

Our wonderful landlady put a bag with kale, cherry tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes and 2 leeks from her garden outside our door.

How do you like serving your leeks? I saw a recipe to saute them, and make a cream sauce, and one where they're baked in the oven with olive oil and a splash of white wine, covered in foil.

What do you do with your leeks?

The green part in stir fries.

The white part in cream sauces.

Slice them very finely and cook in a drop of white wine and butter, season, then add creme fraiche at the end and serve with fish.

I'd love 2 have some more Pepper seed(No Bell Pepper or Gypsy Pepper, pleeze!), and some different varieties of small salad Tomato seed. I also have Long Red Slim Cayenne, Tabasco, Super Chili, and MAYBE just a few Carribbean Red Hot seed. Also, ANY Good Watermelon Seed for next Spring! Thanks -n- Good Luck! Ron in Alabama.

leeks - do replanted roots generate 1rst of 2nd yr plants?

I don't know the technical answer, but I've maintained permanent leek beds using replanted bases and side shoots for many years. The smaller plants from the cut bases did not try to bloom.

I also use leeks in fall salads, thinly sliced, and on sandwiches the same way.

SharonCB, an active forum member for several years, used to braise leeks often. I tried it a couple of times, and really liked them that way. I don't recall exactly how Sharon fixed hers, but I know that all I did was wash the leeks well and cut them lengthwise. Braised in chicken broth until tender and them added a bit of cream. They were really tasty.
