I love my Sharp Microwave Drawer! I have it in a 24" cabinet which is part of my island. There is one big drawer below that I keep snack in for my kids. I have inset doors, so I don't know if that make a difference. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your replies. I have ordered Medallion cabinets and the woman I have been working with insists that this microwave will not fit into a 24" cabinet. I am going in with the spec sheet and show her it can be done. Hopefully they will say it is not too late to make the change.

My cabinet is also 24".
The only tricky part and where they might be coming from is the where to put the electric. My customer cabinet guy recommended putting the power in the adjacent cab and my electrician was really happy about this since he had issues with installs in the past with the 24" MW drawer. I guess it is a really tight fit with this unit.

Grendal- thanks for your reply. I just got back from the cabinet place and she is checking further into this cabinet. We would be able to put the electric into the adjacent cabinet if necessary. If all you guys can fit it into a 24" cabinet we should be able to as well I figure. I just think it will look better when it is flush without the gaps all around it.

I just got back from my KD who said I need a 27" cabinet for the 24" MW. Uggh! I'm wondering if a) he's wrong, or b) if this is because we have frameless cabinets. Any thoughts?

Tsherman- I know how you feel- I am going UGGH!! too. Still haven't heard what the cabinet company thinks of my situation. But for yours if you google "sharp microwave drawer 24" frameless cabinet" you get install instructions right from sharp. Print those and show them to your KD- that is what I did. Good luck- let us know what you find out.

We questioned the samae thing a couple of years ago when they were new. Mine is in a 24" frameless cabinet. It fits pretty flush to the sides, so unless you are getting wonky cabinet measurements from your manufacturer, it should be fine.

The frame in the face panel is not that broad, and I will tell you that mine split in the initial installation, but when we got the replacement panel and the first was uninstalled they discovered that the panel had been installed with some nasty looking metal screws with something like barbs on them. It was pretty easy to see why wood would split. It was only surprising that it only split in one place. So have them use the right type of screws and you'll be fine with 24".

I sent the sharp specs to the KD and this was his response:
" The minimum Requirement for 24" width means that clearance of inside of cabinet has to be at least 24" , a 24" wide cabinet has 22 ¼" clearance and 27" cabinet has 25 ¼" clearance ( because of two ¾" thick sides of each respected cabinets)."

This makes no sense because the Sharp specs which say the opening must be 22 1/8" because according to his measurements it would fit! He obviously didn't read the sharp specs I sent him. Is he just difficult or lazy (sorry to vent here, I'm trying to remember why we didn't DIY!)

I agree ith you! The KD must not have looked at the specs. This photo shows how the drawer is attached to the face of the cabinet. When closed, there is apx. 1/8" of cabinet showing on each side.

They finally got back to me and I am being told that it will not fit in the 24" cabinet. Is it still going to look good in the 27" cabinet or will it look too big and gappy. I guess I'm stuck with the 27" no matter what, but it makes me discouraged because it seems that they are wrong. Please reassure me this will still look ok (or not look okay, as the case may be).

UPDATE- just got a call back and they will do the 24" cabinet after all! Not sure where all the confusion came from, but they finally admit the smaller cab. will work. What a relief, now I'll move on to obsessing about something else!

hailey - your cabinet man is a moron and lazy, and probably can't add either. You should be very careful when this goes to install and maybe even have someone look over the current designs, and appliance specifications this crowd has already done!

Also, it doesn't bode well that they don't seem to have any experience with this unit either, otherwise they'd have learned from their previous mistake.
