if you start them young enough..my 2 elders were leashed when we went to mt rushmore in a camper couple of summers ago, and about choked trying to get away from them! i ended up with just "info collars" and confined them to the motorhome we'd rented...

they were really scared when i tried to "walk" them at dd's home...

I love Jackson Galaxy..he IS very good at what he does, and I too have learned a lot watching his show. I don't think I could train my cat to walk on a leash, I'm still trying to remove a lot of the "feral" from her personality!

I tried it I bought the special type of harness that is specially recommended for cats, but my cats did all kinds of flips and flops and flying gymnastic tricks and very very little walking! Garfield looked like one of those gators that start rolling the minute they try to catch it. He was all rolled up in the leash like a trussed up turkey and I was scared to get near!
I still have the harness somewhere, but all my kitties are now in heaven.

I do like that show a lot, he does very good work.

Daisy tries to sneak outside if she thinks we aren't looking, so that's why I was wondering if she'd like to go out and sniff around. I don't want to start her thinking she can go outside alone, though, as we live on a busy street, have 'possums and other critters around.

When I had my male cat neutered, I walked him on a special cat harness the first day that was basically made from a cord with sliding bits on it to tighten. It took him about five minutes to get the hang of it and to my surprise I could walk him around the yard. Thought for sure he would go ballistic.
I don't think the new cat (ex-feral) would tolerate it though.

I walked my first Siamese with a harness and leash. He did well. People stopped their cars to watch! Once he jumped straight up in the air and came down with a bird. I have had many Siamese since. The reason they do not leash walk now is that Kimmysing went AWOL several times and for safety, we wanted him as an indoor cat. He developed a more adventuresome spirit and the door became an issue.

I still have the leashes from my three cats (all gone now) I haven't tried them on the freeloaders who come to the door.

funny My DH Watches that show and had me tape some episodes to watch just watched a bit of one have to watch the rest.

I was flipping channels Sat afternoon and watched two of those shows.My cat was in my lap and I pointed out to her what a good kitty she is.It was hard to believe the behavior of the cat living with the exercise people.I'm not sure I could have kept that cat.

The show has definitely made me appreciate Daisy more. Her little annoying habits aren't so bad.

I've had many cats, fortunately none "evil" like the cats on this show. Watched a couple of the shows on Animal Planet Sunday. Not interested in the continuous Super Bowl coverage. My current cat is not real friendly, she basically stays in the background and runs when a stranger enters the house. But she's never attacked anyone.

I must be blessed...my 3 were litter mates that I got when they were about 3 weeks old. They think I am their momma...running to greet me when I get home and perched at the door for a kiss when I leave in the morning. THey come to me - each by name - when I call them.
They are super friendly, snugglers and have never bitten anyone. If they get tired of visiting children, they just go away.
They have always been indoor kitties and dont even try to go out.
The show is very interesting though... a lot of common sense if people would stop and think. But I am glad he has the show to educate others that need some "parenting" skills.

My husband wishes our cat would walk on a leash instead of ***following*** him when he takes his evening walk. Cat follows until he gets tired, then expects hubby to carry him. Cat weighs almost 30 pounds, so hubby is not thrilled--especially when they're about 2 miles from home when cat poops out. He's not a cat from hell, but Hubby sometimes tells him to go there!

My younger cat only goes outside when he is on a leash. He wears a velcro type dog harness and it didn't take him long to tolerate it. He loves being outside and will sometimes not be too nice when we try to get him back in the house.

I didn't know what "My Cat From Hell" was about, but now I'll check it out... sounds interesting!

I really lilke My Cat from Hell. I've always had a cat or two but I've still learned a few things from Jackson. The one I have now might be feral. I thought it was one of my neighbors cat's kittens but she said her sons found some kittens in the brush above our houses. He doesn't like to be cuddly. He's 11 now and is just finally sitting on my DD's lap for a few minutes. He loves to be be petted but it has to be on his terms. When he's sleepy he really likes it or he'll walk by your chair and have to reach down to pet him as he walks by.

We bought him a smaller sized metal dog cage and he really enjoys going outside and will stay there for 2 or 3 hours just watching the birds or whatever or just curling up and sleeping in the sun. He lets you know when he wants to come in by meowing and when he sees you he will reach up and stretch.

We tried to put a harness on him when he was small but he would just fall on his side and refuse to move.

I tried a cat harness years ago but no cat of mine has ever tolerated one. i do have an outdoor "cat run" I can set up outdoors. It consists of wire hoops that you push into the ground with a net over the hoops. I had one cat who adored the cat run. He was a male. My current cat is afraid of the outdoors. Whenever a door to the outside opens (and I have 3 doors) she runs and hides. She also isn't at all friendly or cuddly towards strangers. The only time she is friendly to me is when she's hungry.

I don't understand what you are saying. Do you mean you want to start a new thread? Obviously, you can comment, as you did above.

You can start cats really young in age to walk with a leash, some do that to let their cat get outside and keep safe at same time.

We had a cat that followed us when we went out and I was walking to work not far from the house and had to keep taking him back to house and tell my mother to not let him back outside as he is following me to work and not good that is. We have had cats that cat like dogs, and one cat we had really loved being with the dogs and they were like go away but he was determined to be with them and was dog characteristic.

I've trained any age cat to use the leash.
