How about lip synching to something -- like a Cher song with a really wild costume? Or Boy George, Elton John... someone with really outragous outfits & makeup?

Can you do it with a group? Some years ago three of my friends and I put together a very short skit about women in a laundromat complaining about their love lives. We carried baskets of laundry and sang "Am I Blue?" At the end we tossed brightly colored men's underwear into the crowd.

It was a big hit. :-)

I loved our retreats. I did a stand up Comedy Act, all original. But, maybe you can listen to some of Ellen Degeners (sp) skits. I like the one where she talks to God.

Or just tell a joke.

I'd kind of like to do something comical. I've gotten a reputation of being the "chorus clown." I don't think I have the nerve to do it alone though.

Sniff, I moved to Austin. My Group in Dallas won Regional. The other Groups didn't appeal to me. The one here isn't very good either.

Wow, Gayle! That's so cool that you won regional! We don't have a prayer in our contest (in May). One of the choruses in our region placed 9th in the international competition last fall. Several of the members of that chorus are also in my chorus, including our director.

You're right about the choruses having different "flavors." There are two near me, and I think I chose the right one. They're a really fun group of ladies.

Well, my friend nixed the Sonny and Cher bit. She said it's been done before. :(

My kids did one years ago that was very simple and got great response at the end.
It is set at a Bus Stop with a Bus Stop sign and a bench. A teenager is sitting there waiting for the bus and he is listening to music and chewing gum. Removes gum and sticks it under the bench, then goes to get on his bus.
Now a mother and child come to the Bus Stop. Mom sits on bench and child is playing around the bench. Child finds gum stuck under the bench and starts to put it in his mouth. Mom has look of horror and tells child to drop it, "Right now!" They leave to get on their bus.
Now a business man/woman comes along reading the paper. sits down on the bench and he gets the gum on his shoe! He takes the gum off his shoe and sticks it back under the bench. He then catches his bus.
Now, the teenager returns on the next bus. He walks over to the bench, reaches under the bench and gets his gum and pops it in his mouth and walks off, listening to his music and a big smile on his face!
This is all done without talking, just pantomime. My kids used a large boom box.
Half the audience was struck with horror, the rest were laughing their a$$eS off!

I like the song by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn entitled: "You're the reason our kids are ugly!" One of you could dress as a man and do that. It's pretty funny.

I talked to my sister last night and described sheilajoyce's skit to her, and she totally cracked up! She loved it! So that's definitely near the top of my list. (thanks, sheilajoyce!)

Yesterday I spent some time looking at youtube videos and various web sites with talent show suggestions. One of the ideas I came up with (after seeing a similar video) is to get a poster-size copy of the painting of Mona Lisa, cut out the lips, stick my lips through, and lip-sync a song. I haven't decided on the song yet. It would have to be something really ridiculous. I'm thinking a song from the 1970s would work best---maybe "I am Woman, hear me roar." Or maybe the PMS song Gayle suggested??

Along the same lines, if I can get someone to do it with me, is to get a poster-size copy of American Gothic and do the same thing. I think foggyj's suggestion of "You're the reason our kids are ugly" would be perfect for that!

That would be cheap to do, and I wouldn't be singing, so I probably wouldn't be nervous.

But I also like ruthieg's and kathyg's suggestions. hmmm...

I guess I'll have to think about it some more.

Any feedback on my idea with the poster?

Sheilajoyce's skit is really easy to do and it won't cost you a dime, unless you wanted to use a prop or two. You could have some macho man tweeting, etc. It's something different. Can you tell that I REALLY like that idea? LOL.

When I was a Sweet Adeline, one of the funniest skits I ever saw was a silly demonstration of how to put on stage makeup. One lady put the make up onto another lady who was seated on the stage. She did it very badly, totally overdid it and exaggerated everything while doing a running commentary along the lines of "Plenty of eyeliner, ladies! The audience needs to see those eyes!" (and giving the model raccoon eyes) etc. It had everyone totally in stitches with tears of laughter running down our faces.

There are some really funny ensemble songs from ‘Menopause the Musical’. If anyone has seen this, you know the songs will make you laugh til you cry. You might be able to get the words to an easy one you like and perform it with your friends.

Along the lines of the balloon out of paper. I taught our garden club how to make a butterfly out of a dollar bill. They liked it and learned it quickly. There's several tutorials on you tube. That's a great place to look for ideas too.

If you decide to do Sheilajoyce's skit, there is one more thing you can add to the end of the scene. Have a person run around the whole scene in a square. That represents the picture frame.
