Help! I don't want window treatments (6 pics)... long post.
Comments (24)Laurie, Thank you so much for your warm compliment about my house. As far as the paint...we used Benjamin Moore throughout. I remember the white was called "Linen White" which is on BM's website. There are actually two beige colors used in the greatroom. "#1031" is written on top of the lighter beige paint can. When I looked at BM's website it shows "Carlisle Cream" for that number but looks very lavendar on my computer. Not like the real paint at all. I wish I could help you with the name of the darker beige we used but the store kind of tweaked that color for us. It was BM's Moorecraft SPEC paint and on the top of that can is written "MC #47" if that helps. bristlingacres, Thank you too for your compliment. All of our interior doors are stained with white trim. They are knotty alder. I'm posting one pic of the stairwell door which shows color and trim pretty good. I got some samples yesterday of Hunter Douglas woven wood shades. They seem very light. I can see through them easily and they come in a host of patterns. I downloaded a picture (sorry it REALLY tiny) and a darker color than I would choose. What does everyone think of this option??? Do you think I would need cloth curtains on the sides like in this picture?...See MoreWant to create my own low cost rod over window to hang valance
Comments (6)IF your window is not to wide.. check out a piece of PVC pipe and you can either paint it the color you want and add a covered styroform ball at the end for the finial or just use a curved piece of PVC joint piece. they are smooth and the tabs would flow over it nicely.. you could spray paint it black, gold , white, any color that would go with your bathroom or valance.. I have seen folks use these with bracket hung up side of window and slip pvc piece over it.. or you can go to Big Lots and get a very inexpensive rod.. but sure would not be as much fun.. if you know someone who has a cane..you could use it.. even a piece of straight rebarb and it can be bent to work also.. might be a little harder.. I have seen the door knobs done and that looks really cool.. sometimes.. just have to sit down and think outside the box and use crazy items to do normal things.. lOl baseball bats have been used and so have hockey sticks.. Good luck and besure to take a pic and let us all see what you did. Huggy...See MoreWindow World, argon & low-E windows?
Comments (21)earthwormies, Heat enters and leaves thru your windows in three different ways - conduction, radiation, and convection. When dealing with west-facing windows that are cooking you when the sun is shining on them your primary concern is radiation. You need to block the direct solar gain. Solar Heat Gain Coefficient or SHGC represents the percentage of solar heat that is directly passed (radiated) thru your window when the sun is shining directly on it. The lower the number the less direct solar heat gain. In your case you need a very low SHGC number. When the windows arrived they should have had an NFRC tag on the glass that listed the SHGC (as well as U-value and other ratings). Do you still have the tags or did anyone note what the ratings were? Using argon, or krypton, or any other gas between the two lites of glass does nothing to block solar heat gain; you need a low solar heat gain LowE coating to block radiant heat. I am very curious about Window World's claim that they couldn't gas-fill one window because it was too big? How big is that window? Do you know if your windows were manufactured using LowE glass?...See MorePics of solid glass cabinet fronts (shaker)
