Hi everyone! Are you snowed in today? We're not exactly "snowed in" but we have snow on the ground again today and it's snowing lightly now. Kids got another snow day today. Yesterday morning was a slushy mess on the way to work, it was raining when I left home. Lot of accidents in the area, just tried to stay away from other cars.

I'm glad I'm off today, but we do have to go out to the store today. After that I'm just going to relax because I have a long work weekend coming, have to do four 12 hour days in a row. We're supposed to self schedule ourselves but I never seem to get the schedule I request. Oh, well...one more week and I will be on vacation!

I need one of those jar openers that Flamingo posted awhile back, I warmed up a slice of pizza this morning and wanted some green olives on it. Took me forever to get that jar open! Banging didn't work, the knife didn't work, finally hot water and more banging did the trick.

I rented a DVD on Yellowstone from Netflix and am going to watch it today. I also have to watch the Grammy awards, DVR'd it so I could fast forward through the bad parts. lol.

It's in the 60s-70s here today and there's not a cloud in the sky. We're supposed to have nasty weather over the week end, which is sad, b/c I was going to take DGS#3 to the zoo. For a town the size of Tyler we have a wonderful zoo. Hope everyone else has a good day.

It's ugly here today. Was foggy,now it's just overcast and cold(for us)Was going to work in the gardens ,but it's too cold for these old knees.So i guess i'll just stay in and do what ever.

That's what I'm thinking. Worst comes to worst, I'll at least eat/dry them and that's better than a landscaping company ripping them up and tossing em. So far, everyone looks pretty happy. Gave the Chard a deep/big pot; the celery a wide one. The Collards have one my genuinely Huge Pots and so far isn't dying. The kale is kind of unhappy. Gave kale a 'normal' pot as I had run out of bigguns. Ate the Carrots already once research said they weren't so viable. This is kind of an experiment for me, and Maybe my trials of seeing how this goes can help other gardeners in a similar position. I'll keep it updated on my end. Who knows? It's always better to try and be hopeful than to just give up? Any other advice is always most welcome, as well. If anyone else does something similar, I'm soooo very down to hear your ideas. :) Thanks for the feedback as well, Christine!

I would say without seeing it or knowing where you live and the conditions it has been under it is a double dose of transplant shock and probably overwatering to boot ( just a guess on that) ...DO NOT FERTILIZE water ONLY when it's dry and it will probably shoot out new leaves ...I have had many do this especially if it goes from shade cloth green house to outside ( again I don't know if thats the case)and they usually shoot new leaves and are fine . Is it history??? I doubt it but over watering a stressed tree and fertilizing it will help it along to doom...I think the second transplant SO close to the first was a mistake but that is old news. The other two possible answers are planting to deep and overwatering causing root rot!!! or some systemic or soil disease if it is I would say it is history...At any rate if it does croak DON'T plant in same area or you may doom the next one if it is disease...but I bet it's stress to be on the possitive side!! They will probably do OK under that much shade. Tree roots will always be a problem as the surface water causes tree root growth where ever there is moisture. Peonies do have pretty aggressive root system which I think will compete as good as any other plant in your exposure. Al

Absolutely no hydrogen peroxide. It destroys the cell membranes of ANY cell, good or bad. Pictures would be helpful. Cactus mix is not the most suitable for growing hoyas in, even with orchid bark mixed in. Compacta actually prefers it drier. I water mine every 10-14 days, and mine is in a mix of 1/4 inch orchid bark, #3 perlite, and 1/4 inch LECA (expanded, fired clay balls). Did you rinse the old potting media off the rootball before potting up? I would check the roots first, especially if it is the bottom leaves of the affected stems, that are doing poorly. If the roots and root stem are whitish, firm, smell okay, and not squishy or stringy or stinky, pot back up. Then, please take a pic of the affected leaves and post here for further help.

It's only 7.30 am here and looks like there's been some rain over night - yayyy! We've only had a couple of light showers since Christmas day and combined with very high temps everything is soooo dry.
As soon as I've finished my coffee I'll be taking Caddy for a quick walk and then I'll be heading to work so just a pretty ordinary day here for me.

We're supposed to get about 6 inches overnight. The morning commute will suck, big time. Then back down to -20F. I am so tired of this cold weather. And of my car's heater not working.

Hi Kath and everyone.

I guess we Texas folks are all having beautiful weather today. It's supposed to be 70Âº and the sun is shining brightly! My kids have hired a cleaning lady to come once a week for me and today her husband came over to work in the yard. He was only here 4 hours, but did so much more than I ask him to. My kids couldn't have given me a better gift to help me out until I'm back to normal (whatever that is *S*).

This week I have done some deep cleaning in my room. Now my sewing desk, computer desk and bookcase are all clean and organized! I even set up the i-Pod docking station that DS#3 gave me for Christmas. I'm really enjoying using it to listen to my music and the radio!

One of my best friends (from 4th grade to present) came over this morning. She brought homemade cinnamon rolls with lots of pecans. She let them rise a little more and then popped them in my oven. By 10:30 we were pigging out on the rolls and fresh coffee. Mmmmmmm delicious!

Don't know what I would do without my family and friends!

How wonderful MaryAnn. Makes me smile to know you are getting help with chores and having friends bringing goodies. Sure would like to have gotten in on those cinnamon rolls. I can smell them from here.Mmmmmmmm!

Yep, we've had 70's this week and due another high of them today. However, the wind is blowing in a front and it may not get that warm.

Kathi, where are you that you can work in the garden at this time of the year? Are you in California?

Gayle, good your dogs have sun to bathe in. I can't wait for spring and I think Luther (our dog) would agree with me.

Dirtyfingernails, I hope you have a warm blanket or thick coat to wear in that car! I remember when I was stationed over in Germany, took me about 20 minutes or more to drive to work, longer in the winter/snow...I had an old Opal Kadet with a lousy heater that took forever to warm up. I had bundle up to get in the car, by the time I pulled into the parking lot at work it had finally warmed up.

Hi Maryann, sounds like you're having lovely weather there in TX. Your kids were sweet to hire you guys some help. Those cinammon rolls sound wonderful!

Summer, you all are making me wish I had settled in Texas!

Just got back from the store. Lauren invited a friend over, she lives out in the country, up a long, dirt, ice and snow covered drive. Not nearly as bad as where we used to live, though...and I kept telling myself that as we climbed up her drive. LOL!

Still snowing here, not really hard, which is good. The roads are pretty clear. Went to Krogers and they had a bunch of sales: milk, grapes, boneless chicken and a few things I don't need, like Pepsi. We also ate at the new Huddle House in town.
