I am a new at composting. After years of throwing yard waste in an old garbage can I was delighted to find I had usable compost this spring. Now I am putting a little more effort in to it. In addition to yard waste I am adding banana peels, apple cores, orange peels, coffee grounds and tea along with some vegetables. I read not to compost lime peels which made me worry about the orange peels. Am I ok adding them?

I bake my orange peels slowly in the oven till they are dried but not burnt. Then put them in my coffee grinder to grind up. I use the ground orange peel in a raisin bread recipe I have. Whenever it calls for orange peel in a recipe its great to have some on hand. You can always make the candied orange peels, or even marmalade.

I am glad I came across this post. My kitchen is being remodeled and they will be texturing the walls today because we went with an open concept into a small living room and dining room they are texturing the whole area. I am going to tell them to NOT texture behind the stove area because I am not sure what I want to put behind the stove for a backsplash yet. I am thinking of doing something easily removable in the future so I can change it up if I get tired of looking at it. I am even thinking of doing ceramic tiles on plywood and using french cleats to hang it.

IMPE, frozen citrus peels can get mushy when thawed, which is not ideal for candied peel. I do store them in the fridge in a plastic container, and yes, they last days, maybe a week that way before going bad. But why not try it and see? I've never tried candying frozen peels.
