I had a total hysterectomy at the age of 36 due to an ovarian cycst the size of a grapefruit. (It had become that large in a matter of 3 weeks). They had prepared us for it being cancerous but luckily it was not. When they opened me up, I also had endometrosis everywhere. They literally had to scrape all my internal organs and even removed my appendix. I had already had uteral surgery to help me get pregnant and a C-section with the smiley shaped incision but they had to do a huge incision that goes from above my belly button all the way down to you know what! It kinda looks like an anchor with both incisions. Let me say this was way back in 1986 so alot has changed since then. I took estrogen and progestone for a few years then dropped it to just estrogen. I stoppped that about 10 years ago now and my biggest complaint is that everything on me is dry. I have tried the creams and stuff but nothing seems to work. Hot flashes come and go but overall that isn't my main issue. I still have paps done every three years - its actually more of the lining of course but you should still be checked for endometrial cancer. The estrogen threat is not just for the ovarian cancer but also breast. It was actually my husband who suggested I talk with my doctor about stopping the estrogen as it was being discussed among the doctors at the cancer center where he works in Radiation Therapy. As I said that was 10 years ago or more. So much depends on your age - I was so young at the time, the hormones were basically a necessity but now I am glad I have stopped them.

Starting a few years ago I've had several bouts of BPPV, and as others have said, it's the WORST. I am blessed to be very healthy, and being so dizzy that I cannot function is totally out of my normal experience. I was told to try Brandt Daroff exercises at home before doing any physical therapy. Happy to say that these have worked really well for me, and since you do them at home you can start immediately plus you're already close to bed and a resting spot if (when) you get the spins and nausea as you start the exercises. I do them on my couch which works well. My GP recommended a repetition of 15-20 cycles each session and 2 sessions daily. Since I started doing the Brandt Daroff my episodes have been controllable within a day or so. This compares to my being unable to even go to work for several days at a time with the nausea and dizziness. Yuck, just talking about it gives me the willies. For those who haven't had vertigo, thank your lucky stars. For those who have had vertigo due to BPPV aka ear crystals, give Brandt Daroff a try, it might do the trick for you too. robbie_florida Yes, I had your symptoms and I had done my homework to be able to ask to have Prometrium prescribed and also thyroid replacement for finally diagnosed but long suspected hypothyroidism. The bleeding of three months, but severe needing an overnight pad every hour during the last four weeks, stopped after two weeks on the natural progesterone (Prometrium) and the thyroid medication. I thought I was going to bleed to death before it finally stopped. My doctor admonished me to not take any aspirin for the excessive endometrial pain causing buildup. Diagnosed and prescribed September 5, 2001. Age 46. Now more normal periods than I have ever had. I did my homework to avoid the synthetic hormone merry-go-round which puts too many women on the surgery table for hysterectomy. You were deficient in progesterone, so therefore you were building up too much endometrium. Without progesterone to rise and fall naturally, a normal menstrual blood flow is impossible. I am guessing you are bleed free by now? You can e-mail me if you wish. Ablations create scar tissue. Scar tissue can not form a lining on the walls of your uterus (a period) However, if during the ablation there was a spot missed(and this does happen - somewhere on that consent form that we all signed that listed the risks from the procedure- this is listed I promise you.) back to the missed spot - it is still live tissue and live tissue will continue to grow a lining still causing a period. A usually lighter period, but a period just the same. A very small percentage of these can grow large and cause severe pain - THESE ARE THE ONES TO WORRY ABOUT CALL THE DOCTOR GET A CT. Unfortunately for me my doctor said if this develops with me we are going in for a hysterectomy. Due to the fact that there is nothing he can do to access the live tissue because of all the scar tissue, another ablation would not help because it would stay the same size and continue causing the pain. So Hysto or live with pain. for an earlier post: There is no reason to get your tubes tied if you have an ablation- there is nothing for the embryo to attach to. (FYI: getting your tubes tied has actually caused more women to develop heavier, longer, more painful periods.) Somewhere it states irreversible - not for women who wish to have children, not a form of birth control, infertile. for pattyo: menopause comes in three stages that can last for years. The ablation was probably the "period free" reason, but unfortunately it has no effect on our hormones. So we still have to go through the night sweats, hotflashes, and all the other "goodies." They can come for months, then disappear for weeks. However, I would be concerned about the heavy bright red bleeding after not having anything after the ablation. You should really see a GYN. Call ahead and try to set up a payment plan, or see if they offer a discount to pay in full up-front customers. Look for some type of walk in clinic they are usually cheaper and they can refer you to a GYN ASAP if needed. If this post sounded ugly or smart I did not mean it that way. I tend to get very upset when women do not ask questions and let doctors go right ahead with what they think is best. Write down all you questions and try to remember to take them to every appointment. Read them to someone before you go to see if you have left anything out. Please remember to ask, ask, ask and if you still get that big medical dictionary terminology - tell them to draw you a picture. If you still don't understand it fully tell them you would like to speak to the nurse. Everyone of these posts were cover by my doctor before he would even let me say okay to the procedure and his nurse called 2 days before to make sure I didn't have any questions, then asked me again when they called with my appt reminder.
