Do Anti-Depressants work for menopause or do you need Hormones?
Comments (8)Please, please never take medical advice from someone over the internet. You need to do your research and decide for yourself what's best for you. I provided a very little bit of information. You need to do a lot more research yourself using that information and any other information you get in response to your question before you decide to take your doctor's recommendation. The prozac/serafem isn't likely to do anything about the new menstrual problems you're having. Your doctor may be hoping that it will change the way you view these new problems. That's not as crazy as it sounds. Perimenopause is full of surprises and for a lot of women just knowing that these things are a normal part of menopause is calming. Everything you've listed here is normal in the years before menopause. Has your doctor done any diagnostic tests to rule out a physical cause for the changes other than menopause? An endometrial biopsy and an ultrasound might be good ideas if these have not yet been done. Bloodwork for menopause is a waste of time and money because the levels are so variable. Good luck and feel free to email me if you wish....See MoreWhen you KNEW you were (peri)menopausal
Comments (2)I didn't start with constant bleeding...but my periods would be so heavy I literally could not leave the house when that was going on. My doctor wasn't concerned, only told me if I started passing blood clots the size of a 50 cent piece THEN we would need to discuss options. I would have less than two weeks between periods but at least it wasn't every day all month. The high anxiety was the symptom that sent me to the doctor because I was certain I was having a nervous breakdown. Looking back now...the beginning of feeling like I was 'out-of-control'...'out of whack' with what used to be a normal life was the beginning of the change. Now I'm just waiting to get to the other side and hopefully find what's left of my brain there and pick up the pieces and move on!...See MoreI feel awful approaching menopause--do you??
Comments (5)I truly believe that there are some of us who are so dependent on our female hormones, that life becomes pretty bad for us, during this adjustment period. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia shortly before I began having irregular periods, at around age 46. I developed sleep problems, IBS, migraines, severe joint and muscle pains and overwhelming fatigue. I thought it was all my fibromyalgia.....but I've talked to alot of women who seem to develop these symptoms, as they enter perimenopause. I saw tons of doctors and had tons of tests, and they were all normal. Over the past 10 years, I've learned to deal with most of the problems. The fatigue has definitely gotten better, but I still have the IBS and sleep problems. I'm sorry I don't have any good advice for you, except to be sure its nothing else going on, and then read up on fibromyalgia and what things you might do to feel better. I know menopause isn't a disease........but for some of us, it sure feels like one. I learned how to budget my energy so that I could get a few things done in the morning, when I had the most energy. I definitely had to re-assess alot of things, and stop expecting myself to be able to do what I used to. Fortunately, I had a very understanding family. I tried Wellbutrin for awhile, but it made me too nervous. Drugs like Welbutrin, Provigil might help you with your severe fatigue. But then coming off of drugs like that can be a challenge in itself. About all you can do right now is try to custom-make a plan for yourself, including diet, exercise, and alot of rest. Good luck to you....See MoreMother's Day is Coming Up What Are You Doing
Comments (20)I have 2 daughters and a son. Youngest daughter will be in Flordia for her stepson's graduation, oldest one will be camping and youngest will be home with his wife and and 4 kids. I already received my gift from my youngest daughter and part from the other one. I will go down to our son's for the day. We try to get together for holidays if we can. I realize they have other sides to deal with, too. We have many special days and making it for a certain one sometimes isn't possible. I talk to 2 out of the 3 almost everyday.. I have great kids all year long... This is what makes it special for me.....See MoreZalco/bring back Sophie!
