Color Ideas for Mediterranean style home

Hi,

I was hoping to pick your brains. I'm getting ready to have my house painted and would like some opinions on color choices. I'm color-challenged and need some help! All of the houses in my neighborhood are yellow, cream, beige/tan. I'm looking for something unique, but not so crazy that it would tick off the neighbors ;)

Olive, terra cotta, grey/blue...

Maybe someone can photoshop some colors for you.

Green can mix it up and is always an alternative that fits in nicely with a neighborhood's regiment of yellow/tan/cream/beige.

There's also just white. Doesn't sound very exciting, but the perfect white on a stucco Med home can speak volumes above the neighborhood -- and it's *just white* so who can argue with that. ;D

Very pretty house - many color options will work. Just have to figure out what you want.

BinsB How GREAT! I'd guess by now the 'kids' are knocking from the outside - yes? Paleese post a pic if you can. We'd all (I'm sure) love to see your accomplishments :-))) after waiting soooo long. Love the orange colors of the nursery but mmm - are they really going to sleep in one crib? :-)) Just kidding. When you have time, which likely won't be for awhile I'm sure, would love to see the nursery with the paper flowers, et al. Not to worry about the non-span house of present. It's the spirit inside that can carry it thru. Imagine what a tough time I have in my location. LOL!! You'll have lotsa fun (when/if you can find the time) doing some special stuff in your new abode. Trop - hmmm pictures this year? LOL! That will be fun to see. I'll look forward (but won't hold my breath too awfully long). :-))) I'm thinking maybe you just eliminated the kitchen altogether and are doing take out now? Houseful it's great to have you posting again. Perhaps you can help us breathe some life back into this thread as I know Bins is going to be rather busy over the next while. :-)) If it weren't for her dedication, I'm sure this thread would no longer exist. I have a few things on my plate but hopefully they will be resolved shortly and I can return to my decorating love. No, I didn't forget, but it doesn't really compare. Gold isn't brass. Gold reflects mightily in low light and glows in a way that brass can only stand in the corner and envy. Purple was reserved for royalty, not because it looked good with the other colors, but because it was very rare and very expensive. The point is that there are exceptions to every rule and contravention for every blanket statement. There's also the rule that 2 reds might clash but 20 reds don't, which often works, but when it fails it's really really bad... Look at the things together. Look at them together with different lights. Choose what you like. If you're colorblind you might make choices that don't make sense to others who can't see what you see, but if it's for yourself, go for it. If you like aubergine and brass, please don't let me stop you! (Anyway, it's meh, not shudder-worthy.)

I agree with Patricia that the dark beams aren't necessary. I did think it looked a little incomplete to not darken the beams if you have dark trim, but that wouldn't be my preference anyway. I would play up the Mediterranean style in the landscaping and make it more free-form with lavender, sage, and maybe an Italian cypress if that works in your zone. Just adding more colour and texture there makes a good bit of difference. I think I still prefer the added character of traditional Mediterranean blue trim. Of course, it really depends on your neighborhood and the style you're going for.

My first thought was to work with more white. Maybe you could mix it with some green.

Are you going to keep your trim white? I love black trim on mediterranean houses. I would do a deeper richer color that's not as pastel. Something like BM lenox tan for a caramel like color. Or you can do a green like clarksville gray. Both would look great with black trim. OR you can go lighter.

Thanks everyone for the ideas! I hadn't considered green or gray colors, but I think I like it! Definitely would look nice & way different from what everyone else has.

pps - I like the color in your first pic. You don't happen to know what those colors are do you?

Here in LA, this style of house is often painted a deep terra-cotta with a dark green trim. My own favorite is a very dark purple/brown with a black trim, but I understand that some HOA's would freak.
