Does the Pain ever go away?

Once you are finished going through all the menopausal symptoms, does the pain and pressure go away?

How about the mood swings and irritability?

Is it just the "going through it" time frame with all the symptoms, and once you arrive.. it all goes away?

Or, is this IT? This is life now?

Thanks, I am curious, and hoping for the END of all this.

I am wondering the same thing. Maybe we will hear from some ladies who are considered to be through, or over menopause who will tell us what to expect. Sometimes I think once menopause starts it never ends, or just goes from one symptom to another. LOL

I would like an answer to this question too.

Once the hormones have done their thing and we are no longer perimenopausal and into the big menopausal, do all the symptoms leave us?

Will we be normal at any point again in the future, or is this the "schtick" from now on.

Kill me if it is.

If fully composted it won't go "bad"...but you'll lose some of it's nutrient effects as it continuously ages, especially N content. As noted, it will also shrink in volume over time as it settles, loses some moisture, and loses some of it's structural stability. That said, it's effect on mineral soil as an addition is one of it's strongest qualities, anyway. Though some that rely on composting as an important part of their nutrient regiment might lament the loss of it's overall strength, I find the most value of compost in what it does to soil structure in conjunction with the mineral part of the soil. For instance, fresh mushroom compost is practically nutrient-bare stuff (1% N/P/K volume at best, usually, and not all of it is available in plant available forms which is a double-whammy). It's one of the "worst" types of composts you can get your hands on as far as nutrient quality goes, but it's effect on soil structure when combined with the mineral portion of the soil is just as good as any other compost. When does the dust go away?

It will last for months, at least. We noticed the extra-layer of dust for almost a year. We don't have filters b/c we have a whole house air purification system instead, but we did clean that at 3X the frequency that was recommended by the manufacturer. My neighbors have changed their filters every other week for 6 months, and they still are experiencing the dust. They have extremely dark, almost ebony, wood floors though which cannot be helping! I think that you will always notice the dust more since you have dark floors. As mentioned above, you would serioulsy need to clean them daily to keep the dust away. It's a pain. The worst for me is that there is no sippy cup in the world that does not leak, so I'm cleaning up milk spills hourly...which requires a full floor cleaning. :(

Trailrunner - I was reading some of this to DH last night, he thought they sounded like great ideas btw, and when I was done reading the first thing he said to me was,"Wow, I can't believe people take the time to type that much out trying to help someone. " Ha. Gotcha on the wear them only for running. Oh I know not to wear the orthotics and insoles at the same time. I know now (didn't at first years ago!) to take out the pads shoes come with first. Powerstep is the brand of inserts I bought from the Podiatrist. Heard of or any thoughts on them? I forget what name my orthotics are they don't say anything on them but they came in a bag that did. The bottom is hard plastic but the top is blue firm foamy stuff. He said something about it being new stuff. Do you think the Podiatrist would give me a hard time about "put a good padded front made of the new high tech triple layer stuff they have or....you can get a good insert and cut it to fit flush with the front of the orthotic"? Guess I won't know until I try but I'm picturing them wanting to know what I'm diagnosing myself since they apparently didn't think I needed that. Oh, well. I wondered how the ball of my foot was getting any support if I'm use my new orthotics in shoes I took the insole out since there's nothing there. In the past (I'm sure from wearing heels) I've had pain in the balls of my feet. I tried to tell him this too while I was there but he wasn't interested in hearing it since I wasn't having pain. Thanks for the heads up about the glucosamine. I think it actually might be what DH takes! I need to check that out. He gets on me about how I really should take it. I can take all three of those types of pills. That does sound like a lot! I'm guessing it just kills the pain longer? Does that help with the healing process at all. Perhaps that's a dumb question. I checked out that roadrunner site and the chart and I'm not sure if I'm N or PN. I'm under 150lbs and I do under 25 miles a week for N but the PN says, you run races or enjoy fast running. I like fast running. When I said I never considered myself a runner it's because I normally don't do more than 3 miles at a time and normally it's intervals. The thought of a 50 or even 10 mile race makes me cringe. Figured I'd ask but thought N would probably be my best bet regardless? Also, the NB shoes look like they're for trail running and I'm normally on a treadmill, does this matter? I really like that site. It even tells you to order sizes up for some shoes. The current ones I have are on there and it does say to order 1/2 size bigger. Go figure. Onlines shoes didn't tell me that! How's this for the laces? It still feels kind of tight around the top. Probably just the poor fitted shoes. For now, I'll rest from running. I have other sneakers I can wear for biking or whatever. By the time I'm ready to hopefully run again I'll make sure to have good sneakers. Seww - Thanks for the link. It seems very common here that even running stores have people in them that don't really know what they're doing. They just find the size in the back room. I'm at least going to go and attempt to try some on in person. Deedee - Oh my, I laughed out loud when I read that. That wasn't real nice of him! For a long time I thought I must be the only person with wider feet! One time on ebay I bought a really nice and expensive pair of heels. I did not know B meant narrow (I think it's B - whichever one is narrow). There is no way I can wear them. Not possible. It was funny even trying to put them on. They're in my closet because I couldn't resell them. Nobody in the world has a size 5 narrow foot either. :)

Hi Tracy, Thanks for posting the information about your memorial to Leonard. It is so nicely done, and I am glad you posted his picture. He was a handsome young man, and he was obviously very much loved. I am so sorry for your loss. About your deep sadness: One thing you might want to do, if you haven't already, is make an appointment with your doctor to discuss how you're feeling and how you're coping. You sound so very depressed, which isn't surprising or unreasonable at all, considering all you've been through. Also, it's spring, with summer and the terrible first anniversary of Leonard's death. Somewhere in your mind, I am sure that thought is lurking, and adding to your pain. If you're not being medically treated for depression, now might be a good time to discuss options with your doctor. Newer medications can make such a difference in the quality of life for persons plunged into depression. When they feel better, their families feel better. Remember it's a personal decision and nobody's business but yours. I don't know how many "supports" you have near you, but there's nothing wrong with seeking professional help. Please seek the company of people who care about you, and accept that it's OK to grieve. But it's also OK to ask for help. Best wishes "Nikoleta"

Hello everyone, I am 53 years old and have not had a "period" in about 11 1/2 months. I experience cramping in my abdomen and I was wondering if this is the pain and pressure you are talking about. Sometimes I think I am going to get a period for sure and then the cramps subside after a few days. I also still have painful breasts on occasion. I am not taking HRT in any form because of cancer in my family (my mom had ovarian cancer) My OB is not too pleased by my choice, but hey ladies, THIS IS MY BODY! I am wondering the same thing, does this pain ever go away. Well, it is Thanksgiving so I guess I better go take care of the turkeys (my hubby and the traditional thanksgiving bird too) Everyone have a wonderful day. Thank you to all who write back.

It is Thanksgiving here too right now, and we are all done eating and I have the kitchen cleaned and everyone settled down and about to watch "Miracle on 34th Street" on American Movie Channel.

I was hoping there would be an answer too by now.

Yesterday, I made an appointment with the closest gynie that does "Menopausal" work as a main focus. That will be on January 8th. Hopefully, I will get some answers then.

Anyone out there reading this? Hailing all Menopausal Brains to answer!

At 53, I'm not there yet, still having periodic visits. I have been told that it does get better, just not sure when. I know I have felt much better since beginning to use some soy supplement and progesterone creme. My guess is that whether its gets better or not you just cope and forget it. If it does get better why would you still want to visit a board like this? I suppose only if you wanted to share your experiences or didn't have anything else to do. I think peri is worse, first the denial, then the indecision, then with action you begin to feel in charge again. Good luck with your change in drs. I think I will change this year for the check up also. Haven't been impressed with the one I've seen the last 2 times. Need to make the appointment, just haven't.

Because so many people confuse signs of aging with signs of menopause, it's impossible to answer this question with an unqualified yes or no. Yes the hot flashes go away or decrease to a level to where you don't really notice them much. The insomnia pretty much disappears. The "fog" disappears. You may find yourself more assertive and a little less willing to suffer fools patiently.

The aches and pains that go along with an aging body won't go away though. The wrinkles and grey hair aren't going to go away.

The above is true if you don't use exogenous hormone preparations. If you do use those you will not be post menopausal in a biochemical sense. Instead you will remain perimenopausal for as long as you take these drugs and hold back your body's natural transition to post menopause.

I had my last period in Nov. of 1994. I still have a few mild hot flashes every day but I seldom even notice them now. I sleep reasonably well, have no memory or cognitive problems, and can honestly say that I've never felt better in my life. I take no drugs or otc supplements of any kind.

From my experience the pain doesn't. I am 55 and I have been going thru menopause for 8 years. I really had a pretty good grip on it by taking Trazadone to sleep, watching my health/diet/mild exercise etc...until they decided because of a BRACA test/family history to remove my ovaries.......WHOA. Three months and the body pain is hell, so much so I feel like I am 90. I have always been fit, a professional ballet dancer.....now I can barely walk 2 miles because the muscle recovery takes days. My 85 year old mother is doing better than I because she still takes estrogen and they won't give me any...

Don't have surgery to prevent cancer it ruins the quality of one's life, makes you feel 90 inside too fast.

I am going to find a way to get estrogen if I have to break into a pharmacy to do it....(kidding)
