I just checked my old BH&G from 1976. No snickerdoodle recipe. Good luck with your search.

I don't have the book....but I think i have that snickerdoodle recipe.
No wait my snickerdoodles are older than that....I think I got it from a friend in the early 60's. She couldn't believe I didn't own that cook book!

Snickerdoodles
1 cup shortening ( not butter!)
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
Sift together
2 3/4 cups flour
2 tsps cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
Cream butter and sugarÂadd eggsÂ.add flour a little at a timeÂ.chill for 45 to 60 mins.
Roll into walnut sized balls, roll in a mix of cinnamon and sugar.
Bake at 400 for 8 to 10 minutesÂungreased pan.

Mix together thoroughly
1 cup soft shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs

Sift together and stir in
2 3/4 cups sifted Gold Medal Flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in mixture of 2 tbsp. sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned, but still soft. (These cookies puff up at first, then flatten out with crinkled tops.)

Temperature: 400
Time: baker 8 to 10 min.
Amount: About 5 doz 2 inch cookies.

It's not in my 1972 book. Are the ones above what you're remembering?

since the recipes are exactly the same....I guess I remembered correctly where I got that recipe 50 some years ago.

mst, neither my red & white 1971 edition or my silver 1935 edition have Snickerdoodles. Good thing LindaC is around to rescue us!

My 1968 edition doesn't have Snickerdoodles either.

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond. I was looking for the recipe for my niece and she hasn't gotten back to me yet. She did say it was the early 70's but she must be mistaken. Thanks for looking it up for me.
