Let's talk mattresses - again....

Thinking of getting a temper pedic mattress or maybe just a temper pedic topper. Anyone have one? Like it? Hate it?

I have the mattress and love it. I'll never buy anything else, except for the camper, as they are to heavy to put in there. Some people think they are hot in the summer, but I don't. I do find it cold to start with in the winter. You can get a trial period with one, but it's expensive to send it back, as you pay for the cover replacement so it can be sold again, I believe.

These are mentioned quite often on a mattress forum I used to go to, and people seem to either love them or hate them. I put a 1" memory foam topper on my bed and couldn't tolerate the way it retained heat. So I put 1" of latex foam on top of it, and I'm happy with the result. (My mattress is ab innerspring with extra lumbar support made by a small manufacturer.)

Another potential problem with memory foam and temperature is that it stays pretty hard in a cold room.

Older people complained about difficulty turning over in bed because the foam molded around their bodies, creating a crater that was hard to move out of.

Others had concerns about the chemical makeup of the foam, and outgassing issues.

Like I said, memory foam does have its fans, too. But on the whole latex was much more popular on that forum.

Mich, I've seen that in the stores and wondered about it. Some detergents don't have enzymes, I stear clear most of the time, however not every load is tragic, so not every load needs enzymes. If there's not a bunch of stains and the clothes just have the normal dust and body oils, that bottle of All probably does a nice job on darks and colors. I'm a powder fan but lately I've been enjoying some liquids, lol. Actually I have found liquids without enzymes make my sheets feel very smooth, I've been using a new boutique one I've run across, I'm not sure yet though if its the lack of enzymes or because its a liquid, but they do feel better I'll send a pic of it in a sec.

When I was looking at different brands, I found different manufacturers recommend different things. Almost all the mattresses I looked at are at least 10" thick. Seems like no one recommends a regular box spring. Most sell some kind of base (which will work on your bed, Beagles), which appears to be a fabric covered wood frame, saying no solid support because the latex mus "breathe". My 35 year old latex mattress has been on a box spring and apparently hasn't suffered from lack of breathing! Some recommended a bunkie board slat system as long as you have a center leg/support for Queen size or larger. I thought that's what Zenhaven required and went to a lot of trouble to make that work with my antique iron bed, double converted to queen. Then, I was reading recently and I think it says it requires a solid base, so perhaps your box spring would work fine. Since mine is just a guest room with fewer than probably 20 guest nights per year, I'm not going to worry about it. But if I was young and using it nightly, I'd probably be concerned about voiding the warranty, if I did install it incorrectly. Bumble, the great thing about latex is the mattress allows you to turn easily and the whole bed doesn't move, so no disturbing a co-sleeper. If using a slat system on a queen or larger, you would need a center board/legs to support the weight of the mattress. It's much heavier than a non-latex mattress.

There are so many false ideas promoted in the posting by Springroz. I have pursued physical fitness for 4 decades. I won't even attempt to link all the articles that de-bunk the loss of femininity due to exercise and weight lifting. There are too many to list. Just do a Google search on Testosterone and women. We have it and we need it and we can't do without it. As far as the idea of reducing movement to increase weight loss. I can't let this pass without citing at least one link. Again please do your research. There isn't ANYTHING worse for the human body than reduced movement and exercise. I am very careful with mascaras and eyeliners/eye pencils-- I have always been but became vigilant after I had 2 eye surgeries and learned how vulnerable our eyes are to bacteria. I have never worn mascara regularly (leaky and sensitive eyes) but I do use eye pencils and liquid liners. I have blush that is probably 10 yr old.. with the exception of one where the color turned, all seem to be fine. Liquid foundation is well protected and since I wear the same stuff almost all the time, they never last more than a year once opened. Same with lip gloss/lipsticks. They just don't last long enough for me to be concerned. Where I have issues is with skincare products-- I noticed my neutrogena rainbath body oil turned-- the scent makes it obvious. I also noticed a color change in one of my moisturizers. I don't track how long I've had them but I toss them at the first sign that something is "off". It helps that I basically stay with the same products through the years-- I will try new stuff but as the thread detailing in excruciating detail my hunt for my holy grail foundation shows, I am loyal (resistant to change?) to my favorite brands and products!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE memory foam. I would NEVER go back to a spring mattress again. Mine is a knock off so it cost less than Tempurpedic. I bought a king size mattress and box spring for $900.00 ten years ago. At first it was a little warm but I don't notice it now. It's like sleeping on a cloud. It doesn't stay hard in a cold room and it doesn't form a crater under my body. I guess it would depend how heavy the person sleeping on it is. I turn it over every so often. I bought a 4" matress pad for a friend and he loves it too.

I am so glad to have persisted that Dillards take our crappy mattresses back. We are both sleeping very well on an old fashioned mattress, no extra padding, no extra height.

I hope, you can get just as happy with what ever you choose.

I,m going to get an air mattress DD and SIL have one and love it cannot remember the brand name but you set how firm or soft needed, I have not heard any complaining from them and they have had it about 10yrs.
