Suggestions needed for covering beams and updating fireplace

This is sort of a follow up to an earlier post regarding my 1970's family room. We tore out the paneling and beams and sheetrocked the walls. Now it's painted-the base is up-haven't done the crown yet and now, I'm stuck at the fireplace. We need to make decisions as the crown will bump up against the rough beams that we want to get rid of/disguise.

My ideas

A)put decorative molding over the rough beams that are exposed and stain the same color as the cabinets.

B) put decorative molding over the beams-paint cabinets trim color (dover white) get a new mantle-paint that.

Here's the room.

Is there anything decoratively that can be done to make the entire wall not look so dark (floor to ceiling brick fireplace) To make it updated and fresh. Any thoughts would be helfpul-picture will be posted in a second.
