tell me what's easy to digest

I don't want to bore you with the gory details, but I really need to eat something. Yesterday I ate some steamed carrots, and they stayed down, but I ended up with a gurgling stomach.

Last meal I had was Wednesday evening. Then the bug my visiting sister in law left behind hit me.

I am HUNGRY

Try Cream of Wheat and dry toast. Use Agave Nectar or honey as a sweetner if you need sugar.

Hope you get to feeling better. I went through this last week. I didn't have hunger pangs though so ended up not eating for about 30 hours. Drink lots of liquids. I stuck to water and could keep my liquid vitamin and mineral supplements down.

Kurtr you are the one that posted your blog with pics and suggested that is what the unit looks like that you built from the instructions that are copywrited not I. I posted the sorces that either built similar units or reviewed the units. I have a set of drawings I made up with Autocad 2000 and Turbocad V.8 but have posted neither. I an giong to make the units from different materials with some amendments to the flowthru design. The Edwards design is open source and cannot be patented according to the resurch I have done. You can however copywrite drawings and bill of materials. I'm quite careful as to not quote copy protected material with out giving source and onership of such material. The Vermitopia bins are posted so anyone can use them. The reviews are posted so anyone can read them and use the info without fear of infringement rights. The problem with copywriting it only covers the official written plans If any modification occurs for any reason be it materials, size, shape and additions all work to remove it from a copywrite infringement.

I got a reference to "The Omega Diet" book from another source and had purchased it and have read first part. Thought it was an interesting coincidence that it is also recommended here. It is a pretty impressive nutrition book. It seems to say a lot of what we have already heard but it really gives explanations. One of the controversial things in the book is that it is definitely against a "low fat diet" per se. There are even statistics that are given indicating that low-fat can actually be harmful. The key is what kind of fat which most of you have already heard, right? Anyway, if you haven't, the book gives a good case for using Canola oil for cooking and Olive oil to a lesser extent. Using flaxseed oil on salads (because can't tolerate heat) is good because flaxseed has a huge amount of Omega 3. One main recommendation is fish, fish and more fish. Seems the men on Crete eat a lot more fish than even most on a standard Mediterranean diet. Their records of heart disease seem very incredible. Recommends fish oil capsules if you don't like fish. Funny, but I've lost 32 pounds since January and one of my tricks has been to eat walnuts as a snack if I'm hungry between meals. I didn't even know it was high in Omega 3. The key for me is that the walnuts help to satisfy my hunger with a small amount. And I'm one of those people who can't stop eating until everything in front of me is gone. The walnuts seem to change that. The omega diet book doesn't seem to have much to say about coconut oil. There are a lot of recipes. Seems like one of the premises is to eat meat and vegetables and try to limit grains. Kind of low-carb to some extent except, as I mention above, it recommends that you avoid like the plague fats high in omega 6 such as most vegetable oils (i.e. corn, safflower). There have been animal studies with Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils. Seems that cancerous tumors (such as breast), grow rapidly when animal is eating Omega 6 but turmor growth is stalled when animal is eating omega 3. Will we even really know what is the best way to eat ? :) --Alice

Pal, thanks for taking the time to look at my link and your comments. And it is nice to know we are on the same page. I don't follow trends, well maybe some....am trying to keep myself from a white kitchen. But it seems so darn right in my house and love what has been seen. With my age it probably doesn't matter what direction I head. Although there will not be any WW, it is much easier to care for wood floors throughout. The trend factor has hit me twice in buying lithographs and antique collections. When they go commercial with knockoffs and calendars, I am over it. We had a 2 day farm auction and it eluded me that the knockoffs went for higher bids than the antiques. What always bothers me about shag carpeting is: Yes you can clean it easily, but can you get all that lurks beneath. A lot of suction up the "whatever is there" and the cleaning solution. The spots always seem to make their way back at some point, even when professionally done. I was told that a lot of the new shag and rugs are made with some percent of recycled plastic. This is probably true about most WW depending upon price. Not being able to wash pillow covers would be a problem in my house. I suspect a lot of the materials used in producing rugs and upholstery fabric is unknown to us. Plastic or poly included in most of these would warrant no drying or high heat washing. Especially if the thread used is foreign material. Is this part of the throw away society? I'm rambling and off subject a bit.

I have the same shadow line above my cabinets! We call it unfinished, of course. In that kitchen it mimics and repeats the other strong horizontal lines, and I think it enhances the look. Not so much in my kitchen. I've been on this forum for almost 3 years now. I'm amazed at how few contemporary kitchens I can see here now. I find the current crop quite uniform - white or cherry, soapstone, stainless almost without exception. That's fine, but I wonder where the diversity went. Her very modern house would look ridiculous with any of the last 10 kitchens posted here.

My pediatrician used to call this the BRAT diet, and recommended it for little ones recovering from upset tummies. Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. I hope you feel better soon!

Besides the BRAT diet, when I am queasy, I like pudding and mac and cheese. I also drink 7 up or Ginger Ale. Actually you can make a ginger tea that will settle your stomach,

all i can think of is the BRAT diet.

saltine crackers... dry crackers of any kind
tapioca pudding is what my grandma always brought over.
home made tapioca pudding.. warm...
BUT I can't remember if we kept it down! lol

Plain oatmeal -- water, no milk.
Applesauce.
Bananas.
Saltines.
Tea -- no milk.
Ginger Ale -- little sips.

Keep drinking, but not plain water, and in small amounts.

I have gone through almost a 12 box of sprite since Wednesday evening. It's been the only thing I have been able to keep in.

I'll try a banana.

For me it is Tacos. It seems to be the spices. Also I can eat a plain homemade hamburger, just the patty, with nothing mixed in but a bit of salt on top. Wierd? Yep

Apparently, we each have different things that work for us. I don't eat canned soups but keep a couple of cans of chicken noodle soup and of consomme on hand as that's what I go for first, except for some kind of clear pop or tea. Next step is toast, then nuked potatoes.

I just hope you find what works for you soon, Moni. That type of bug is miserable. I had it in December. I hadn't been out of the house, nor had company, for a week. Finally, it hit me that maybe the bug came in via my mail.

If you are having digestive problems perhaps you should try this:
Nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours.
Clear liquids for the next 16 hours or even 24 hours.
Then start slowly on the BRAT diet.
Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast
This is what we recommended when I was a triage nurse.

((Moni)), sure hope tomorrow's better. I'd say saltines, like they used to tell you for morning sickness, but that never worked for me.

When I was pregnant the only thing that didn't make me want to hurl was unbuttered popcorn. The kind you buy in bags, already popped. I think it's air popped and it's salty.

Oh, and Japanese pickle plumbs and the juice, which you probably won't want. Pickled ginger too.

Whenever I've been sick intestinally, I try to drink ginger ale and eat whatever appeals to me. That could be crackers, or fresh carrots or pudding, whatever appeals to you. I learned long ago that cravings are your body's way of telling you what you need to eat. Obey The Crave.
