I have the WOT and love it, and don't ever go to sites that I get warnings on. I also don't go to any that are found via a search unless they have a good green rating. There is just too much that can happen and I value the health of my computer.

I AM concerned about the bad guys. I don't want to use a program that rates websites as acceptable or not. The ratings are submitted by users. I don't like the description of this. Too many variables and vested interests.
I'll make my own decisions on what I want to view.

There was a link on here I very much wanted to open. I clicked on it and waited and waited and waited some more. Finally an error came up from Microsoft and it had to end now.
I am not sure thats the one you're speaking of tho, apparently others didn't have the problem I did! It just wouldn't open for me and got an error and had to X out of the whole window.(tried twice with the same result both times)

I honestly don't think the person who posted that link would be offended -- I would like to think the person posted the link in innocence, not knowing at all that the site could potentially be harmful.

I normally don't open links- I did open Moni's with no ill effects. Can you please tell us what link you found to be harmful?

Here is an explanation I found on line.

Keep your computer safe from online threats like spyware, adware and viruses. Get warnings about online scams, sites with adult content and spam. Protect your wallet from unreliable online vendors, phishing attempts and identity fraud.

Just because one goes to a site that has a bad rating, it does not mean one's computer is going to get something awful, or crash or anything. It just means that the site is less than a 'good' (green) rating.

Example...I do a search on gifs and Google brings up thousands of sites. Most sites will have a green rating, but others will have a yellow rating or a red rating. I will then choose to go to only those that are found to be the safest ones (green). It is just a little added protection which I like.

Another example in doing a search of free.
Most sites are rated as safe, but freepayingsurveys.com/freemoney is rated red. It gets a low rating under trustworthiness and privacy. Anyway, I won't go there due to its rating.

I rarely look at the poster's name when I read, and I don't really know who it was. It was a link for Crock Pot recipes. I did a search for that and it didn't come up, so it must have been called something else in the message.
I'm sure the poster used the link innocently.

I'll add the link to the site, which I found by searching my history. Unless you have downloaded WOT you will not see the RED warning. WOT marks questionable sites with a RED warning, and it is your decision to go there or not. The scammers, spammers and mischief makers are just waiting. Why take a chance?

WOT gave the site a red warning for Vendor Reliability, and for Privacy. I went no farther due to the WOT rating.

Ok, I clicked on the link and got a "general error has occurred" warning from Realplayer. Don't know why. Maybe a coding error when trying to play background music?
I don't use WOT.
I highly doubt if this crockpot person is using malicious software. Does WOT tell you why the site is flagged so that you can decide whether or not to continue?

Exactly. It is just an additional 'free' level of protection if one chooses to want to use it.

No one could ever use all of the wonderful free programs available. It is just whatever one chooses for their own level of comfort.

Hmmm... the McAfee Site Advisor rates the Crock Pot Recipe site as "Green."

Thank you Sue for posting the link to the questionable site. I probably should have phrased my request clearer. Fortunately I gave my Crock Pot away a while ago so I didn't even open that one.

We really do need to be careful out there in cyber land.
