One Year down...

Well, we made it one year! Our anniversary was yesterday, so I guess we aren't newlyweds anymore?

We spent most of the day packing, because we are closing this friday on our new house! Our first home together!

He surprised me by making reservations at a nice seafood restaurant and we had a lovely dinner. We both agreed the house would be our gifts to one another (probably for the next 30 years also!!LOL)

Congrats!!!!!!!! You're one month ahead of me -- our one-year anniversary will be next month, and I'm not sure what we'll be doing. Hopefully on our 2 year anniversary WE will be packing up for our first house. Hope you have many more!! =)

Hi Kay: excellent question. I had wondered this in the past and from observation I know that Mort Morss does an off year/on year cycling. I also have seedlings out of MM which do the same thing. When I say "off" I mean it--literally single digit blooms (and sometimes single blooms if any) per spike. As regards MM, this doesn't seem to be affected whether I set seed on it or not, it just does it. Some of my other varieties do this to lesser degree (MM is definitely on a limited parole with me and I may just give it away next spring). As to virgo45's observation, I'll confirm it as a general rule; there are some plants (Malaysian Marketplace, Finish with a Flourish, Wild Irish, Magyar Music, Palace Garden Beauty and Orchid Elegance) which seem to shrug off the effort of setting seed the previous year and continue to bloom/set seed their heads off in subsequent years. But as a rule, I've noticed much diminished blooming in the year following heavy seed set with bounce back the 2nd year after. -eric

Lovely sense of style! Bravo! We investigated porcelain marble look-alike tile but we decided on real marble which we will have to care for without any acidic products. Beware that there is a repeating pattern in marble look-alike porcelain tile like (on wall paper which will give away the secret.) We found great deals on Amazon and at Lowes for Bianco Carrara subways, pencils, chair rails and floor and shower floor hexes (1/3 the price of tile stores). We found a gorgeous remnant for our shower bench at a marble and stone shop at an amazing price. I can't wait until it's done to post photos! But back to your house... it's gorgeous!

I don't think it's black rot--it seems to be just rot. I use a very long rotation, and I don't think I've ever had cabbage where I have them this year. I'll have to check my records to be sure. and elisa: I'm zone 6A, not sure where you are in zone 5 WV. But I start my savoys in little starter packs (outside, but not in the open garden) around June 20. When they have their first set of real leaves and are getting their second, I transplant to pots and put them under row covers grouped together where I can water them easily out in the open garden. I set them out where they'll grow, also under row covers, usually in early August. But this year, they were so big, I had to set them out in late July. Two years ago, they were barely big enough by late August. I have no idea why they grow so differently. But I've always gotten great cabbages until this year.

Hi! I am thinking about purchasing a couple of Myrtus communis. Temperature in winter here usually stays between -5C and +3C. But, sometimes fall to -10C and one year fell down to -20C for 2 days, but this was only one time in many years. -- Now, seems like nobody agrees with the temperature supported by the Myrtus communis! :-) https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/details?plantid=1305 says hardiness is -5C to -10C (H4). http://fr.hortipedia.com/wiki/Myrtus_communis it says that it is USDA Zone 10. http://www.gerbeaud.com/jardin/fiches/myrte.php states -10C In comes the vendor and tell me the plant should stay inside the house at +7C. Well, anybody has experience with wintering the Myrtus communis outside home and in below 0C temperatures? :-)

Congrats on your one year anniversary and on your new home. We usually just buy each other a card and maybe have a nice dinner out.

Congratulations on the one year. We don't usually go all out for our anniversaries but we get a big present that we both can enjoy - okay not as big as a house, but a tv, refridgerator or a digital camera has been some of our gifts to each other. It seems like after kids the day just doesn't seem as big of a deal to us.

DH doesn't believe in b'days, anniversaries, christmas, etc so, with the exception of a him uttering happy anniversary after he greets me in the morning, it's just like any other day...

Lianne.. that's horrible... Do you mind that he is that way??? Forget for a minute what "he" believes ... what about what you believe? Gee, I think an anniversary is important.. It's a celebration of another year. So many couples don't make it today and when you do.... you should actually celebrate it.. BUT.. if it's okay with you....???? I would just hate to think that it makes you sad?!?!?

Congratulations on your new home!

This year, for our 13th, DH & I had LUNCH together. He's been working on a project at work for the past 18 months (completion date May 15) and that's all he had time for. We usually go out someplace nice for dinner, but not this year.
