Faucet placement Need Help Quickly

We templated our countertops for soapstone ourselves. Just finished tonight and we must mail the template back to the fabricator asap. I am having difficulty deciding where to locate the faucet. I have included a pic (I hope). The sink is a 31" wide Ticor single bowl. It is located in the corner cabinet. We are using a Danze Parma Prerinse faucet. Pic included.

Initially I was assuming that we would just locate the faucet in the middle of the sink. However my DH thinks it may function better if located to the right of the sink. It can be placed in the middle, in the back on the right side or on the right lateral side of the sink. Could I please have opinions on this?

Also with the placement you suggest where should the soap dispenser be located?

Don't you just love these late night decisions. If it were me I would place the faucet in the middle. Your faucet sits so high that if placed in the back on the right side it will be right in front of the right window. If placed to the right of the sink it might look a little off balance. I would place the soap dispenser in the back on the right. By the way, I love your cabinets! Debs

I agree with deb that it will look and probably function better in the center. I put my dishsoap dispenser on the left but that is because I push it with my right hand while I'm holding the dishrag in my left (I'm lefthanded). I don't think it matters, just what feels right to you. Your kitchen looks wonderful, can't wait to see more.

I'm struggling with the same decision. It isn't obvious to me which is the drain end of the tub. If it is by the shower, then placing the faucets next to the vanity would put them right into your back as you bathed. If it is the other end, then it seems like the vanity end would be the logical and convenient place. Is putting them as a wall mount on the long wall a possibility? You'd have to redo the sheetrock, but they'd not be in your back. You'd have to reach over the tub to turn them on, but it doesn't look like the tub is too wide to reach easily.

I'd try to learn to live with it instead of buying a new one. Are you completely convinced it's a safety issue, or is that influenced by the fact that you're unhappy it's not in the right place? I've had remodels where a few things weren't done right and it seemed a big deal at the time...later I didn't notice it.

I remember someone posting here a long time ago that granite dust ruined their drawer glides? That is my only concern when ours gets installed tomorrow. Of course, we have 26 yr old cabinets and I don't have any of the new fancy hardware, so we should be okay. My granite is coming with the undermount sink attached but the faucet will be drilled on site. I don't know how you can avoid at least SOME fabrication on site. I will also have an edge they wont even off until they are here because they preferred not to cut the side that will sit against my fridge end panel since it wasn't installed when they templated. I think they said someone vacuums while the other is grinding? Due to the layout of my cabinets and the risk of installing too large of a slab, I am ending up with two seams and it is making me nervous. If I had the opportunity to have the dust vs a 2nd seam, I would chose the dust, hands down.

Re: setting it offset, etc.: Pay close attention to what you currently do. I thought I'd put handles and stuff on the left, since I'm right handed, and though I'd be holding my pans, etc., in my right hand. But I find that I *hold* things in my left hand, which leaves my dominant hand *free* to pick up the sponge, turn on the water, etc. I even prefer my soap dispenser on the right, bcs I pick up the sponge w/ my right hand, and hold it under the dispenser, and push w/ my thumb--one handed--all while holding the dish/pot in my left hand. Also, i think that if you have a window over the sink instead of a cabinet, you may find that you'll adjust to that extra height more easily and rapidly than you think. if it's just aesthetics, don't give up the functionality of a center faucet for that. Bcs the off-center could look just as odd as a huge faucet in the center. Will your faucet reach most areas of the sink from the corner?

Another vote for center so as not to block the windows. As to the soap dispenser, why don't you and the family practice with a regular pump container and see where it suits you best. Some righties want it on the right to pump with their favored hands. Others want it on the left to wash their favored hands first. And vice verse for lefties.

But sometimes it depends more on where the faucet is aimed. Is it a single bowl? Multiple? Do you usually have the faucet turned toward the disposer? Is the disposer offset or in the center? Just because the faucet hole is in the center doesn't mean it's always pointed that way, so no matter which handed you are, the best place for the soap might be the side that the faucet usually isn't!

Your best bet is placing it center so it doesn't obstruct the windows. I think having it in the way of the window will bother you more than you realize, and opening/closing the windows without anything in the way is always a plus.

As for the soap dispenser, that really depends on what hand you generally hold washable items when handwashing. Test it out when you are around any sink area to see what hand you tend to hold things with because your free hand is obviously the one you'll pump with.

I did my dishes early this morning and realized that I have my SD on the left because I wash my dishes on the left side of my double sink. So don't listen to me!

Yep--the middle. Right in that wall spot that just seems designed for a faucet. Don't block the gorgeous windows!

It's unanimous - the center. Deb, I hadn't even thought of the fact that it could interfere with opening the window - DUH! Thanks for the help everyone. Hope to post FINISHED pics soon.
