All I can say is UGHHHHH!

In December 2011 I had my cycle, didn't have another one until June 2012. Had cycles from June 2012 to early January 2013 then not another one until this week (June 2013). UGHHHHHH!! LOL My cycle in June 2012 was really uneventful, just like a regular cycle, however, this current cycle is OMG horrible, not pain wise (actually not have any cramps which is unusual) but the bleeding is horrendous. I do not have insurance and really canÃ¯Â¿Â½t afford to go to the doctor. Was wondering if anyone else has had this type of pattern and can give some insight to how long I can expect this pattern to last??? Thank You!!

I forgot to mention that I am 47, will be 48 later this year.

It sounds as if what you are going through is pretty normal, meaning anything and everything at this stage can be related to perimenopause most of the time. I have the irregular periods as well but they will be heavy for about 2 days and then nothing. My sister however, had what you have the very heavy periods and her doctor related hers also to fibroids. Have you ever had an ultrasound to rule that out? Is there any way you can possibly find a clinic or even a Planned Parenthood to go to so you can get checked out? I wouldn't really worry too much because from what my doctor told me during this time our periods can either get really heavy or just the opposite and be very light, everyone is different. This year I planted 16 varieties of peppers, both sweet and hot. There are at least 2 plants of each. They have been in the ground or in pots since mid March when we had an early warm-up. Most of the plants flowered while still very small. At that point I decided to allow one of each variety go ahead and do it's thing, and then pinched the buds off all the rest, just once. In virtually every instance, the 'early bird' plants stayed small and only produced a couple or three peppers - so far. Almost all the other plants are bigger, in some cases much bigger and have many more peppers, though they are taking a month longer to ripen. A few show no difference in production or plant size. But you know what? I'm happy! I got the early ones "outta my system", and now have the masses to do with as I please until next year. The best of both worlds! PS For the first time California Wonder Bell peppers are producing the biggest, most beautiful bell peppers I've ever grown. I almost didn't even try them but they always show up first in the nurseries around here and I couldn't resist. I might even have to grow them from seed next year! :)

Paul, you are giving me some education with your hosta info. Like, I had no idea what to expect of my Dark Shadows. I got it from Naylor Creek in 2012, as what I understand is a TC grown on by them for at least a couple of years. So I get it last year. And this is the picture I took of it May 2013. Does it have the irregular dark pattern you refer to in a MATURE PLANT. I'm getting a thought in my head, put there by someone also along the I-10 corridor, that maybe our climate can act on the maturation rate of hosta. It is something to think about, if we get regular indicators of maturity. But we have to know the exact age of the plant we're discussing. Which I don't know exactly. So what you say about the irregular streaks being a mark of a mature leaf, it perked my ears. Does my hosta look mature to you? Other than being still freshly leafed out and not toughened up to the heat yet.

Kathleen, here's a chocolate pizzelle recipe I've had great results with. FYI, pizzelle can be any flavor you want, if you don't like anise, substitute with any of the following extracts: lemon, vanilla, orange, or brandy. I like a combo of vanilla & orange. Lou thanks for your recipe! Lucy Chocolate Pizzelles (Makes about 30) 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled 1 cup sugar 3 eggs, room temperature 1/2 cup milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla Sift the flour, baking powder, and cocoa together in a bowl. In another bowl, whisk together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla. Whisk until combined. Add the flour mixture and blend until smooth. Even though my griddle is Teflon, I always end up throwing away the first couple, if it sticks, and you have to scrape away those crumbs out of the indentations, spray the surface with Pam for the first batch only, and that seems to help. From that point on, they shouldn't stick. Place one heaping teaspoon of dough in center of each pizzelle circle. Close lid and press together for a few seconds (watch out, the steam burns as it comes out from between) Bake until golden brown, about 30 seconds - I time mine so that when the steam STOPS coming out, I lift the lid and they're usually ready then. Just take a fork tine, and gently pull an edge - they should peel right off easily - put each one on a rack for cooling. Close grids back up to keep the temperature up. At this point, while they're still hot and flexible, you can roll them into icecream cone shapes for cooling. Also, can roll them around some type of tube for filling with other dessert mixes - like the filling for canolis. Fill just before serving, otherwise they'll soften.

TinaL thanks for the insight. Yes about 5 years ago I did get checked for fibroids and everything was normal. I have been having the hot flashes and night sweats for probably 7-8 years now so I knew it was coming... but for my body to play tricks on me like this is just not cool! LOL I was talking to a friend of mine last night and she informs me she just stopped having her cycles when she was 40... none of this on and off crap... I wanted to beat her up for bragging! LOL I just got a little over excited about the heaviness of this one. sigh...guess it's just a part of the process.

I've been going through pretty much the same type of thing on and off for the last few years. I didn't have a period this time since Jan 2013 and was hoping that was 'it'; but I started near the end of June 2013, and the period has been long and quite heavy. But no cramping really, so it's not my typical period. I'm 50 years old.

I guess it's pretty much 'normal' for this to happen. Not that I'm trying to say you shouldn't see a doctor if you feel you should.

58 and still getting visits from auntflow! i thought i was done 6 months ago.Today was so heavy I had to go and get some Hema plex at the health food store. 2 yrs ago I had a d&c and went on progesterone (provera) . It was horrible! But no period while I took it for 6 months, I was a total witch though!!! had a blood clot in my leg that showed up 2 days after the d&c. I was looking into the davini surgery and after the clot he said no surgery for you! If this continues again like it did two years ago I am going to find a doctor that will do the surgery! Time will tell!

OMG!! auntflow, you are 58 and still getting periods? I am 50 and i am wondering how much more of this rollercoaster i can take and now to think i could possibly have 8 more years of this makes me want to have a complete panic attack!! The anxiety, mood swings and fatigue just to name a few are going to put me over the edge. I feel for you!

All I can say is UGHHHHH!
