OMG, you want to "talk clots"? I haven't had my period in about 6 mos. or so, however when I did, you would not believe the size of the clots. Do not read this if you're easily offended as it's fairly gross. I found this out by accident on morning when I was on my period and showering. I sneezed and "gave birth to a hugh clot". It was gross trying to get it to go down the drain (but it was not something you could pick up). After the clot was removed from my body, my period flow was obviously a lot lighter. So. . . from that point on, every month in the shower, I would bear down, cough, sneeze, whatever it took to rid by body of what looked like canned cranberries (you know, the cranberries you serve for Thanksgiving dinner, the jello kind that immediately brings back shower memories). I just wish that I had sneezed earlier on during my period. LOL.

Hi linnea, It's a little disconcerting to hear that your gyne doc didn't have much to say to you. She should have told you that when our progesterone starts getting low, our uterine linings keep building up, which leads to more bleeding. Sometimes they give women progesterone pills to help. That's how my periods started going when I was in my late 40's. I refused the progesterone, and my bleeding got out of control. I ended up losing alot of blood and needing a D&C, and was put on hormones for awhile, to keep from bleeding again. It seems like your doc might want to do an endometrial biopsy or a transvaginal ultrasound, so she can understand why you're bleeding. Lots of women just put up with this bleeding during perimenopause. In some women, it just works itself out. For me, I think I would have bled to death. The biopsy of my lining showed that I had cells growing in a weird fashion.....which caused my bleeding. Plus, sometimes, the lining can actually get so thin that it bleeds constantly... But the cause of the bleeding needs to be determined. Are you getting tired easily from the blood loss? If not, I'd say give it a few more months, but don't overlook it too long. Once your hemoglobin gets low, it takes awhile to build it back up. Is there another gyne you could see?? Did she say anything at all about your heavy bleeding?

In defense of Realtors from someone who has sold three homes FSBO, the Realtor is an agent for the home owner, which can be a very valuable resource. However, the home owner is the one that sets the price. Price is the single most important determining factor in what drives showings and, ultimately, sales. The reason so many homes don't sell immediately is because of something called the endowment effect. Here is Wikipedia's explanation: In behavioral economics, the endowment effect (also known as divestiture aversion) is the hypothesis that a person's willingness to accept (WTA) compensation for a good is greater than their willingness to pay (WTP) for it once their property right to it has been established. People will pay more to retain something they own than to obtain something owned by someone else "even when there is no cause for attachment, or even if the item was only obtained minutes ago. This is due to the fact that once you own the item, forgoing it feels like a loss, and humans are loss-averse. Blaming an agent is often (but not always) misplaced. Many home owners tend to mistake their perceived needs for funding to translate to a higher priced home sale than is realistic. The facts and psychology back up my position on this.

Thank you all! I hope to stay a 'silent partner' about this. *I* won't be asking questions of her teachers -- one reason I'm asking questions on the KT. She's my GRANDdaughter, not my daughter. I should gain perspective after her family is with us on Maui for a week over the holidays. (The TV is not a constant at Grandma and Grandpa's house.) She IS an extrovert -- good point -- and her brother (9.5) IS more introverted. He is shy about accepting awards in school. She would have to be ushered off stage as she launched into her acceptance *song*. She's not bratty, she's just "on" all the time. I am mainly concerned that she will be able to focus well enough to feel competent in school. Her father (our son) has ADD, but without the 'H' (hyperactive) component. Because he wasn't hyper (disruptive), his school didn't recognize what I saw as his difficulty in focusing, and his self esteem suffered. You don't 'outgrow' ADD, but an adult can accept it and work to maintain focus. (Snidely, I only wished he *would* take some meds!) I'm not alone in seeing the *possible* problem with DGD. Our DIL, a teacher, has mentioned a concern. One of her sisters is dyslexic, but has still managed to become a well-regarded psychiatrist. (You should see her amazing, multi-colored study sheets from med school!) This 'parenting' instinct never quits, does it? LOL
