They are just doing what daylilies do. You didn't grow them for the foliage anyway, did you? I highly recommend growing japanese iris if you want pretty flowers in the spring and then beautiful foliage right through the fall. You simply aren't going to get that with PARDON ME or other dormant diploids. She is done blooming now and is working on her roots. In northern zones, daylilies don't tend to look wonderful right now and we shouldn't expect them to. For great late summer and autumn color, try hardy hibiscus. I grew mine from seed in January and they started blooming mid-August. They are still going strong with their 10" red, pink and white blooms.

OK, this is kind of embarassing... Dh and his band buddies were planning a photo shoot and I picked up a few items of clothing with an 'edgier' look. One being a black tone-on-tone cut velvet shirt. The fabric looks kind of like this All went well with the shoot. A few months later he wore the shirt to work with a pair of gray pinstripe pants. He looked great and I told him that as he left in the morning. He comes home that evening and asks "Do you see a woman on my shirt?" I'm like Huh??? I look closely and to my surprise (horror!) see the scroll pattern in the shirt was created using this silhouette: One of the guys at work mentioned how much he liked the shirt and the girls in the shirt. Dh and I had no idea they were in there. When I think about it months later I still laugh.

We did this. got the ?juparana bourdeaux island w/ ogee edging in 2002. then updated the kitchen in 2007 and did the rest of the L-perimeter counters in the same granite. HOWEVER, the granite did not match. of the 2 sets of slabs we were offered, one was much lighter than the island, the other was much deeper in color. We choose the deeper/darker one, w/ a pencil edge, to hopefully make it look almost like a different granite. We should have gone to a different granite altogether, and/or paint the island cabinets to make the island look completely separate from the rest of the cabs. We then moved; some potential buyers didn't like the 2 shade of granite. some just like the fact that they were granite and not laminate. good luck. I LOVED my granite island, especially since when we got it, I didn't know how long it'd be before I get the rest of the perimeter in granite.

Jemdandy, what a wonderful treasure trove you have. Lucky grand nephew. I don't honestly understand the fuss about people's stuff. If your descendants don't want your things then they can hire a removal company and it all goes away. Why bother sorting through things you don't want to keep in he first place? Do they think there is an unknown treasure to be found? And if you have things people will want, why would they be buried under decades of debris? My nice things will go to my children when they become useful for them, not when I am dead. The only problem with this plan is I have a fair amount of jewelry and no daughters. Worse comes to worst my jewelry will be sold, which is fine by me. I know my most precious pieces will be treasured by my sons since they are family things, like my grandfather's signet ring, or our wedding bands which belonged to my grandparents. I will have a few boxes of sentimental possessions, like snapshots, school things, slide rules, and baby clothes. Those are all tidy and known. One box of school things has been requested by my relative's alma mater. The notebook with the drawings they want needs some restoration, which I will take care of this year and then send deliver it to the school myself. What is left when I depart should be tidy, well labeled and easy to sort. I come from a long line of women who ruthlessly sort through their possessions often. My husband and sons, they are pack rats, but since I am in the picture, their excess stuff is all neatly sorted and labeled. If a descendent is not interested in my husband's drawer filled with spare parts for heaven knows what, they can easily to sent on their way.
