Anybody partying for Superbowl?

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Superbowl parties yet. I guess the terrible weather up north has put the kibosh on party plans. Sure hope not. If you are going to, or hosting a party, what are you noshing on? And who are you rooting for? (Let's keep it friendly.)

I'm for Green Bay, mainly because it's the first team I ever remember watching on TV with my dad. That was in the late 50's and they had some superstar player my dad was crazy about.

Nope, we'll probably make an in-house "party" by making chicken wings, and we'll watch on TV but we no longer go out or invite others to visit that Sunday. Our younger DD usually asks me to make pasta salad for her. I know it's impossible to buy snack food, chips and salsa, etc this weekend.

I'm going to a small party (6 to 10 people). I'm taking a 7 layer dip (beans, salsa, sour cream, etc). There will be chili and chicken wings too, not sure what else. I'll root for whatever team most other people aren't rooting for since I don't have a preference.

Here I am! I've been busy spending a lot of time on the Kitchen Forum. My hubby has given me permission to redo our 1970's itty-bitty kitchen and the project has taken on a life of its own. I do stop in from time-to-time to peek at everyone's creations. I'll be back as soon as we settle on a floor plan. I found my old post. Letmeg, you just have to go to the page and then do a search with the word "football." Or better yet, scroll down and look at all the cool tables along the way. Use the link to see my table. Then think about these ideas: You should use the colors of your team (I know. I didn't). I like to post a menu for all to see at all my dinners and parties. Maybe put the menu on a poster that's the shape of a football. Or use the little footballs (party favors found at your local party store) to post the names of the snacks you have set out (Touchdown Tacos, First Down Fries, Defensive Line Dip, Wide Receiver Wings, Shotgun Shrimp, etc. ) Place them by each snack. You can make a tablecloth on which to set your snacks. Use green fabric and draw on the 10 yard markers with a paint pen. Doesn't have to be hemmed. Just give it a good going over with the iron. A like to make pennants to hang. Paper and string, that's all it takes. They're easy (cheap if you'd rather just buy them) and I think they add to the team feeling and provide a lot of color. There was a cute and easy cupcake idea I saw on the internet. Makes for an easy dessert, as you don't have to do anything but set them out. And they serve as a decoration before they're eaten. Cute stuff Luvs...you are so smart at finding cute things!!! Since we have the biggest TV :^(, I guess the crowd will convene at our house. I'm afraid that I don't have any "football" stuff, but I do have some (left over from the 4th of July) red, white and blue stuff!! Since I am a transplanted NE Yankee, I think I will use that, and cheer for the Pats!! (Kathleen, we can balance each other out :^)

My first thought when I hear "steamer" is some kind of Chinese dumpling as well! Probably because that's what I use mine for mostly! A good "cheat" for them is to just cook up some ground beef or turkey (I don't eat pork, but the traditional methods use ground pork) flavored with minced garlic & ginger, some sliced scallions and chopped water chestnuts, some soy sauce, sesame oil, maybe a touch of five spice powder - whatever flavors you like - then get a package of those refrigerator biscuits. The regular one's not the huge "grand" ones. Flatten out the biscuit, put a tablespoon or so of your mixture in the middle then bring up all the sides around and pinch it at the top to kind of seal the dough, then steam them. They're more filling than using a traditional dim sum wrapper, but not everyone has access to those. I think the biscuits are a "cheat" that works very well. Have fun at your party! Lisa

Well, the Detroit Lions will be in a Super Bowl.....um....when he!! freezes, maybe? (grin) I watch the SuperBowl for the commercials, but today Elery is rooting for the Chiefs, he says Brady has enough rings. That's today, yesterday he thought maybe it would be nice if Brady got just one more, prove the "old guy" can still do it. End result is that we don't really care. No special food. Mother is here and wants lasagna for supper, so that's as good as it gets, I think. None of the kids or grandkids are interested in football at all, or even any televised sports, other than their local college where both the girls attended class, as did their husbands. Elery prefers college level sports, and our local Ferris State University has done pretty well in football, basketball and hockey in recent years, but they aren't Big Ten, they are whatever the lower level is. There are 4 Ferris State alumni that made NFL debuts in September and I worked with a woman whose son (Joe Berger) played for the Dolphins, the Cowboys and the Vikings, until his retirement. I'm a Steeler fan here. We lived 13 years in Pittsburgh during the Steelers hey day (the 70's). We turned down an invite because it's a party with about 50 people. They do have seven or eight t.v.'s but still a good half of the people are not interested in football and it's hard to focus on the game. We're going to our daughter's to watch. I'm looking forward to it.

We do a little one as well, Georgysmom, we love the Steelers and we love football. We too have been doing this since the Steel Dynasty when the road to the superbowl went thru Pittsburgh!

We have attended the same party for nearly 30 years. I've only missed one party and that was because I was in Antarctica. Thought that was a pretty good excuse. :-) Kids who where in elementary school when we started attending the party now have kids who have kids that now come to the party.

No partying here, either. DSis stopped having her party last year. I'm making a big pot of potato cheese chowder, cornbread and maybe make a dessert of some kind. Not sure Harry will even watch the game. He's not big on pro football either. Happy we don't have that drive down where all the traffic is this year!

GO PACKERS!!! Lived in Green Bay as a kid, so it's ingrained in me. Just having easy, typical football foot: nachos, home made mozz. sticks, potato skins, etc.
My dh is also frying up some fresh perch. ummmm.....

Just having a few people over; sure wish it started at 2:00 instead of 5:00/5:30......

STEELERS!!! All the way. Not def on the munchies yet, guess I better get with it huh? I do adore my Steelers, ingrained in all of us also from growing up with them.

Kickoff is at 6:25 - parties starting WAY earlier.

The weather is not stopping any parties in the Pittsburgh area!

I really don't care who wins, but I'll be pulling for the Steelers. It will just be my youngest son and I. I think we'll have wings, chip and dip.

In 1986, my girl friend and I had Super Hawaiian, Super Bowl party where I met my (future) dh. We had a SAND BAR, finger foods, and plenty of 'hot' men pictures hung all over the house. BBQ'd burgers just outside the door because it's always cold in NE that time of the year. I had a date and was feeling festive that night. My to be dh, on the other hand didn't dress hawaiian and was glued to the tv all evening. He may not be the wild one but I'm glad he came to our party! My date wasn't impressive, the lightweight was sick in my front yard. bleck!

There are a couple of places we could go but we like kicking back here. After attending all the kids sports and dd a cheerleader, we tend to enjoy just being at home for a change. Might have pizza, some veggies and a couple of beers. Not to exciting :)

Y'all know I'll be rooting for the green and gold!! We may have a few friends over, but DH and I are both on call and can get called in to work at any time. Babies don't care if the superbowl is on if they need to be be born. But we will definitely be watching rooting for Green Bay.

Toni ne, I met Harry at a Superbowl party, too. A friend had been trying to fix me up with him, but I wasn't interested so she had a SB party so we'd meet. I found that out later. Anyway, it was January 25, 1981 and we were married that November. Boy, was she proud of herself :-)
