How do you cope with hot weather and hot flashes

Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping the hot flashs down or making them bearable when working outside in the garden when it is hot?

Thank you for any ideas you have.

Lordy, do I KNOW what that is like...this isn't meant to be funnfy but I pretty much just melt. Fans help. I have three in this computer room, two ceiling and one on a stand.

EVERY night we sleep with a fan on in the room, even in winter! I wish men had to deal with this...there surely would be a cure then!

This is a great question...I live in the hot & humid South and I love to garden too. The only thing I've done so far is just make up my mind to let the hot flashes come as they will, and I keep a dry wash cloth in my pocket to mop my face with...I wish I had a better solution, but I can't think what it could be.

Interesting experiment, Drhort. I don't know if it's too big a risk to leave the polytunnel closed or not. I do know that it gets well over a hundred in the shade down here on a regular basis & the okra loves it. Even without mulch, when the soil temp at 1" is likely as high as you're seeing. As temps get hotter, I'd imagine you'll need to vent it atleast during the hottest part of the day, but I really don't know for sure. Let us know what happens, would you?

If you are getting estrogen thru the soy - and I love the soy milk and drink it for breakfast every morning!, you also need Progesterone to keep the estrogen in balance. Natural Progesterone Cream is a really great way to help with the hot flashes! I have a good source for it by mail - much cheaper than the health food stores, but GOOD stuff. I will use it the rest of my life! Dr John Lee wrote, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" and told years ago how bad HRT was for women...now the doctors are taking women off that stuff finally! It's an excellent book and in most health food stores! $12-13 and worth every penny. Lois

Our pool/spa combos share equipment. We use Jandy automated systems on all our builds and reno's. I have clients that have us winterize their pool and they will extend the spa use maybe until December. Our preference is a gas fired heater. Heat pumps require lots of electric power to operate and their foot print is giant. Things to consider for winter use. Read the manufacturers warranty regarding use at certain ambient temperatures. Some say explicitly not to operate below certain temps as warranties will not cover damaged goods. We ALWAYS strongly suggest a generator in the event of a power loss during frigid temps. Equipment and piping can freeze up very quickly when temps are well below freezing. I have witnessed this and have made the expensive repairs. We use salt systems in seson but you can manually adjust chems in the spa with small amounts of liquid chlorine and other required chems after the pool is winterized. An automatic cover or a solar cover is suggested to minimize heat loss. It will cost a bundle to operate in the winter no matter what your heat source. Plus, picture yourself shoveling snow for a pathway to your pool or spa. I give this scenario to clients every time when asked about running through the winter. Some food for thought.

IMO you are much better off with really good quality leather for allegies for sure and good leather which means the same leather on the back and sides as on the place you sit good leather breathes if it is all leather and adhuts to your body temp in about 10 secs. What I find with a lot of NA made leather furniture they cheat and put either a much cheaper leather on the back or fake leather neither one of which breathe. I like good quality Italian furniture it will last until you are sick of it. Get a nice color not brown there are 100s of colors . I have all leather furniture except for one wool bench and went through hot flashes no issues with it at all. I also would always buy a sofa and 2 chsirs instead of a sectional.

Wish I had the solution too. When my daytime hot flashes weren't so bad a couple years ago (as opposed to more recent night sweats), I kept homemade popsicles on hand all the time. Helped quite a bit with lowering body temp and just might be worth a try for you along with the other suggestions. During the hottest part of the day, I took a nap in the cool unfinished basement as well, and did in-house work at night.

The only thing I have found so far is to soak my hair and head down with the garden hose. I have long hair so the back of my t shirt stays wet.

I have MS as well and heat makes me weak as a kitten. There are times that I have all I can do to get back into the house. I found some cooling products through the MS Society that I think might help in both counts. I am looking at the neck wraps that go down your spine a bit and the wrist wraps. I found at night that if I keep a gel pack on a towel on my bed that it helps just to put my hand and wrist on it. Also a wet face cloth. So who knows may be it would help outside too.

I bought those things that are made out of bandanas that you freeze then wear around your neck....OH GIRLS do they ever help! You can even make your own by doing research online. My aunt made me the first neck one I ever had and they are wonderful. When you live where it is humid they work well too!

Keep a cooler handy with cold water in it. When you feel that hot flash coming on, take a long drink. I find it seems to cool me down from the inside. Taking a good phytoestrogen daily may also help cut down on the number and severity of hot flashes. Works for me.
