In my opinion, if you don't order much online then prime isn't worth it. It is primarily a shipping program and the other things are just edited as perks. I do order a fair amount online and I love being a prime member. I don't even use the other things that are offered through it. And by the way, the free book offering is one book per month.

I would never even consider joining prime if I did not intend to take advantage of that today free shipping.

For me Amazon Prime is worth the price. I share my account with 3 of my adult kids (I pay the fee, but invited them to share).

One thing I want to point out is that no one gets free shipping on everything...there are a few things that are not free shipping.

I have not utilized the tv shows or movies that much, but I do borrow a kindle book almost every month.

I don't pay for many books through Amazon, and when I do they're under $10 each. And when I buy something through Amazon, I always make sure I have the minimum required in my cart for free shipping. BUT, if I order from the US Amazon I have to pay, but it's not worth the membership fee for me to get that. I always look in our site first. I don't watch much tv on my laptop or tablet and what I do watch is from my GlobalTV app, or Netflix. One app is free. The other is $8 a month already and we use it a lot.

It is worth it for me. I order now and then and get one free book download per month.

We order a lot of stuff from them, so well worth it! And watch a fair bit of shows from them. Yes many of it one has to pay, but there is still a fair bit of free stuff. Watch it on our TV via our roku 3 (very similar to apple TV)

I, like houstonmom, have a shared account with my niece and I love it. We both uses it alot during the year and we both think it's well worth it. On another board there was a mention that the price might go up this year.

Also, for those of us that use Amazon did you know that Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to the charitable organization of your choice. There are thousands or charities even lots of local ones. We have been using it since sometime last year and it goes to the charities of our choice. I think it's a great program. The hardest part was remembering to sign in at the Smile Amazon login.

I signed up for a free month at Christmas to get the free shipping, which saved me a lot. I did not "unsign" up. I decided to give it a try for a year. Honestly so far I am somewhat disappointed in the movies that are free to download with Prime. They are almost all old movies I have already seen or didn't want to see in the first place. I am sure I will save a few bucks on shipping over the year, but I don't buy all that much. I also belong to Netflix and I like that better only because of their series (House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black).

If you want to watch a recent movie like Captain Phillips or Blue Jasmine on Amazon, it will cost you $3.99. That is a big savings over seeing it in a theater although the experience is not the same on my 40" tv.

I bought a Roku box (at BJs!) to stream the movies to my tv. I do love the Roku.

Next year I will decide between Netflix and Amazon Prime for my TV and movie streaming. I will probably go with Netflix since they seem to have the same free choices plus their series.

I agree with the others that Prime is most useful for free shipping and somewhat useful for tv/movies. It has not knocked my socks off!

I don't think Prime is worthwhile unless you use the free and fast shipping component often.

I am on the month trial...and I am not keeping it. Any tv show I want to see I would have to pay for. I don't ship stuff that much. Totally not worth it for me.

We have it and have probably used most of the shipping for the cost. That said, regarding the movies/TV, how do I get it from my iPad, where it wants to play, to the TV screen? I have Apple TVâ¦â¦.

Do the free trial and see if you like it. My husband and I both used a month free and just cannot justify the quite steep yearly membership fee. Even if we paid for shipping, it would not add up to the cost of a membership. It was nice for the one month free though. We didn't use any of the features besides the free shipping on PRIME items. AND yes as someone pointed out, even with Amazon Prime, not everything is free, it must be a PRIME item. So that's also a snag in the plan if you ask me! Everyone is aware that they raised the free shipping to a $35 purchase now rather than a $25 purchase?

wantoretire.....to answer your question...you can do a MIRROR IMAGING from your iPad if you have Apple TV...I'm assuming you have the current iOS 7? If so, double click the HOME button, flick up the control center and you will see AIR PLAY. Click and then Check Apple TV. What you have on your iPad screen will appear on your TV...photos, games, videos, etc. My grandkids love to play their games via the iPad/Apple TV.

Or you CAN just access NetFlix from the Apple TV screen directly.

Is Prime worth it? Whether it is or not, a lot of people like having it. It doesn't need to be a money saver, it's a convenience.
