hormone replacement

I am on cmp biest 50/50 and cmp testosterone 40mg. I had to stop taking because of my fybrosis in breasts. I am now reading that some women only take the progesterone, (biest) Is this right? I have had a full hysterectomy 30 years ago but still get hot flashes, and feel terrible!

Yes, apparently if you live in the U.S. I live in Canada and after 6 years on HRT (one 100 mg Prometrium pill and one shot of Estrogel (normal is 2 pumps) a day I am currently being weaned off of it. At the moment I am taking this combo every second day and am to switch to every 3 days shortly. I did ask the gyno why women in the U.S. people seem to be able to just take progesterone and she said that the Cdn. government does not support the theory behind it. I had posted on The Kitchen Table for advice re being weaned off of HRT since the Menopause forum is not very active. A few people mentioned progesterone only every 3 days - this was a few days before my follow-up appointment with the gyno so my info was current. So I will be going off it totally. I am 63 and a 1/2 (but who is counting?). I started taking it because I have always had naturally extremely dry skin with rosacea (no acids etc. for my skin) and I did not have any health reasons that would have prevented me from doing so. Every day now I am looking in the hated "big" side of the mirror for signs of further aging! I have thin facial features so that does not help. Re hot flashes, I have never had one. Who knows what will happen next? But I do not sweat as I have very high body acid - which is not healthy. BP and cholesterol and perfect though. Some foods are high in estrogen but I cannot eat them due to said high body acid and/or allergies. Products sold at the health food store do not work for me. Hope you can work this out.

Forgive me if my message is a little disjointed, I just lost my second baby and had to have another D&C and am not quite "with it" yet. I know someone who refused to do the HRT thing because of concerns over the risks of it, and I seem to recall her mentioning the cream form of progesterone. She recommended it to me to help w/ ovulation and it really worked, and she told me that she had used it too, but I think it was during menopause that she used it. (The dr had given me the pill form of artificial Progesterone to help my body ovulate and I hated the very harsh side effects. The natural form cream had none of those side effects, was very easy to use, and the container was still not empty after the few months I used it. My first D&C seemed to jump-start regulating my ovulation,making the cream unnecessary.) (I am unsure of what one needs to replace during menopause so I apologize in advance if I misunderstood what she was telling me and progesterone is not needed then.) I paid a hefty price at a health store for the cream but recently saw it at a WalMart in the vitamin section. I didn't look at it closely so I don't know if the quality was the same as what I had used or not. The same woman recommended the book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" by Dr. John Lee. (Yes, I wrote that down; you never know when info like that may come in handy for someone. I just called the Toll Free 888 number to order my copies. Yes, copieS.. I ordered three of them. They only send these to addresses within the United States, however, anyone from within the United States can order as many of them as they want. And, if they choose to send them to foreign addresses from that point.. that is no problem. So, if you really want one, and you live outside the US, perhaps someone from here or another source you know could send them to you for the cost of the postage. It was quick and easy to order. I am looking forward to getting the workbook and reading more about HRT and deciding if that is the way I want to go. My next Gynie appointment is January 8th and this new guy is supposed to be the guru of hormones for meno chicks like me.. and YOU guys!

Gardenspice, the doc told me hormone levels wouldn't be conclusive because I still get my periods regularly? I am kind of skeptical about that, but he usually knows his stuff, so he is probably right. The thyroid test was in conjunction with my annual blood tests and he said all of those were normal, except for anemia. For the anemia, he sent me to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy to rule out anything sinister going on. I believe he ordered the cardiology tests because my father had his first heart attack at age 51, and died of his third age 58. I am glad I was checked because those palps scared the heck out of me. It's easier to deal with them now that I know they are nothing to worry about.

Hello Garule, I have been on bio identical hormones for about 3 years now. I do not use the patch. I take oral progesterone and an estradiol creme. I weaned off of the testosterone as I felt it was doing little good. You are not alone! The only benefit I feel are reduced hot flahes, however having said that I still experience terrible symptoms. Extreme flushes of heat that last for what seems hours accompanied by gastric distress, headaches, mood swings, anxiety etc. Don't no why I bother with them at all! Blood tests come back showing "normal" hormone levels for a woman my age..55. There are days where I feel almost normal, but the hormones have provided little relief. I would swear I am suffering from an autoimmune disease considering how awful I usually feel. Sorry you are struggling as well. hoping there is a light at the end of this crazy tunnell!
