Period started up after 1 yr.

Hi,

I have been on this forum once before. It was because my libido was very high. Well, now that is not such a big issue. (even 'though it is still there) I am more concerned because after 1 yr. of no periods, it started up again today. (Almost 1 yr. to the day) I was at my gyno. a few wks. ago and everything was ok. But today, surprise! I started staining. And I had a stomach-ache all wknd., which I thought was just my irritable bowel acting up. My period isn't that heavy right now, but who knows how long or how heavy this will be. I did call my gyno. and nxt. wk. he will be giving some test which is a biopsy of my uterus, in his office. I will be awake, not put under. Has anybody had this type of procedure before and does it necessarily mean something serious is going on? How common is it to get your period after 1 yr. of menopause? I never thought menopause would be so frustrating!

It's quite common.

One reason could be a lot of fat around the abdomen that's acting like an estrogen factory. Progesterone every few months could force the release of the estogren more frequently.

I wouldn't worry about the biopsy results beforehand (easy for me to say).

I hope everyhting comes back negative. Let us know.

Sorry I just now saw your post.
I had a period after a year last year. I know they say that we should be concerned after a year, but I really think they should make that a year and a half! I think, like bbaird said, it's real common.
I've had an endometrial biopsy a couple times. The first time it didn't hurt at all, and the second time it was like a pinch, but not bad. I wouldn't worry about it.
In addition to the biopsy, my OB/GYN had me have a transvaginal ultrasound....which shows how thick your lining is. When our hormones start getting irratic, right before menopause, it's common for our uterine lining to thicken up and not shed. I guess if this happens for a long time it's not healthy.....but for a short period of time, it's okay, and to be expected. In fact, it's good that you are shedding yours! Good luck on your test, and don't worry about the spotting right now. Let us know how you did.

I think I figured out the wiggly blade problem. I think the washer was put on backwards. Anyway, one side was really dirty/green so I figured it should point downward (my husband 'helped' take the blade off and put it back on so that's why there's confusion). Today, I flipped it around (it's curved) and not it's a tight as can be. I think it's on right now. I spent about 2 hours taking the blade, gas tank, housing and eventually the flywheel nut on and off. I was bound and determined to get the nut off and did so by putting a 2 by 4 under the mower and down the grass hole...technical name I know. Boy was I dissapointed not to see what I thought was going to be the key out of position. I saw a youtube demo and mine didn't look like their's. There wasn't anything there that I could tell. Tried to get the fly wheel off then, after yanking on it for awhile, I realised I probably had to take the blade off again. It seemed like I was so close but I'd had enough for one day and put it all back together. Tried to start it for grins. It didn't make the clunking noise but it didn't start either. Made sort of a gurgling noise and puff out smoke on a couple of tries. So, now I'm still confused about the key. Like I said, the slot on the crank shaft lines up with a slot below but I still think it's one piece. The blade adapter fell off during the process and I slipped it back on down it's groove. I was kind of hoping that it might miraculously be fixed after that. So, now what do I do? I'll feel better about pitching anyway knowing I took a stab at it but I hate to give up before I know what's wrong with it.

I suggest that you find out about the suitability of using an attic air handler and current ductwork. You may need to under cut the doors about 1 inch to allow for return air. While my home is not as old as your, it does have radiators for heat, and plaster walls and stone foundation. Our main return air is in the ceiling in the upstairs hall and is about 24x36, and unit is above in the attic.

Well, okay, I'll go first... It sounds to me - from the way you've told it above - that perhaps you didn't think this through thoroughly before you decided to get married. I hope that, at the very least, this experience is helping you understand what kinds of questions and issues need to be considered before making a lifelong commitment to someone. I don't get the sense from your words that you had any kind of premarital counseling - in retrospect, it probably would have been very helpful. But that's neither here nor there at this point. I would like to suggest that - regardless of whether you stay with this man or decide to divorce him - you do some deep thinking about what marriage is. When a person stands with another in their wedding ceremony, he/she makes a vow...a commitment and a promise that is meant to be lifelong. Those words are arguably the most important promise one person can make to another and they should not be taken lightly. You broke that promise to your first husband when you cheated on him. And it sounds like you're heading down the road of breaking that promise to your current husband (should you decide to leave him). I don't think you're a "witch," but it sounds to me as though you've got a bit to learn about what the marriage commitment entails. One other thought - you may not intend this, but your last sentence makes it sound like you are looking at the person you marry with very utilitarian eyes - as a sperm donor, if you will. Bringing a child into this world is not about acquiring something you want for yourself. Good parents realize early on that having a child is much much more about giving of yourself than about getting for yourself. I encourage you to ask yourself: "What am I teaching my child(ren) about marriage and relationships by the way I'm living my own life?" A hard question, but if you are intent on setting in motion the process to create a new little life in this world, it's one that really needs to be examined. Best of luck to you.

What would happen if your son said, fine, dad, I'm all in favor of forgiveness & putting the past behind us; let's just get the business part of it out of the way first; you just pay mom what the court says you owe her & I'm your boy, okay? Your situation reminds me of something my old roommate Laurie told me: Her mom, Fran, divorced her dad & didn't take one cent in settlement; Fran had been a homemaker her whole adult life; she didn't have the funds to fight her ex in court, & she knew she couldn't help her daughters financially, so she agreed to waive her rights if Laurie's father would pay for college for both their daughters. Laurie talked to her dad at least once a week, & he knew she was paying for her college with loans & grants, & he never offered to help. There were weeks when she ate ramen noodles, & he never offered to help. Laurie's younger sister was living with their mother, Fran, in their home country, where Fran had returned to take care of her mother & to get a job with a relative. At that time, international phone bills were prohibitively expensive, so Laurie hardly ever got to talk to her mother. When the younger sister graduated from high school, she came to Texas & got in touch with Laurie, & Laurie helped her get a scholarship. About 6 months later, Fran came to Texas to visit her daughters; when she found out that the girls had had *no* help whatsoever, she blew a gasket & called their father. made no difference; The father claimed that he would have helped the girls if they had *needed* it, but that they were doing fine on thier own. so Fran got no settlement, her daughters got no help, & her ex kept all the money.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I wanted to get my results back. I'm ok. I had the endometrial biopsy last wk. and it was uncomfortable and I did have cramps, but after an hour or two, they subsided. I didn't have to take anything.When this whole thing started, it wasn't actually a period - just spotting with stomach pains, almost like what I used to get at mid-month. It lasted a wk., went away for a wk., then started up 2 days ago again. The spotting comes around Noon or early afternoon then stops. It's very timed - like clockwork! In any case, I want to thank you for writing me - it really helped me feel better. Actually, I think I've always had a thick lining around my uterus. I had a transvaginal ultrasound a few wks. ago before all this happened as part of my regular exam. Again, thanks - I just got home from work, told my husband and then sat down to write to you. I am really glad there is something like this available for women going through menopause.

So have you gotten the results from the biopsy yet? And did the doctor say your uterine lining was thick (from the ultrasound results)? How old are you?
I know lots of women start spotting in-between their usual periods in perimenopause. The thing you have to be careful of is that you don't lose too much blood over the year, and become anemic. I think it's okay to be pretty inconsistent during perimenopause, as long as it doesn't go on forever, and you don't lose too much blood.
Perimenopause can be pretty crazy! It's wonderful to have places like this, to help us through a really hard time! Good luck to you.

I feel so much better after reading the postings as I have not had a period for a year but have been having a light one for several days. I think it has stopped and find out it has not. I am wondering if I should go to my gyn or not.

I had some post-menopausal bleeding and my dr. and gyne took it very seriously. It is not normal and should be checked. In my case, like the OP, it turned out to be fine.
