New look - comparing browsers (IE & Chrome)

Some of you have noted the center justification of the posts with the change in the "look" of GardenWeb.

This appears to just affect Internet Explorer. Here is a screen shot of IE and Chrome, using the same thread:

You do not get the center justification with Chrome (or Firefox). I highly recommend switching, if you haven't already. They both great browsers, and easy to use. You can import all your bookmarks from IE.

Notice the lack of ads! NO ADS! Install the AdBlock Plus extension, and you will not have to deal with all those ads. Plus - both Chrome and Firefox load so much faster! Did I say NO ADS! LOL :)

You can still keep IE. I use all three browsers. You don't need to delete anything to use it.

Firefox works fine also with a 130% zoom on my pc.

With Chrome the Ctrl and + or - buttons enlarge or shrink the font.

I have no problem viewing the site using Vista with IE9, Firefox26, Chrome31, or Opera18. If you are indeed using WinXP -- which will be a source of increasing concern as Microsoft is ending support and security updates for it this coming spring -- it means that you can't update from IE8 to IE9. So, as azinoh suggests, install another browser. Also put in the back of your mind that you should be thinking about getting a new computer if you are still using a WinXP machine. There are many new, inexpensive computers that would make your time online more enjoyable and more trouble-free.

I always find non-scientific tests interesting and at times informative. My only question here right now is since you report IE6 are all the other browsers obsolete versions also? I ask as we can't compare apples and oranges. Also, you can run CC, close it, open it, and run it again with a report appearing of some data found. Admittedly not the numbers you report though. DA

Try a different browser, like Firefox. It's free and setting it up will only take a few minutes out of your day. Before you discontinue using IE, be sure to clear the cache to eliminate unnecessary files. Click on Tools, Internet Options, then Delete Browsing History, (If you've never done it, that could be a possible cause of your problem. Browsers accumulate a lot of unneeded junk files over time). A PC with Vista is >5 years old, paying for a Windows upgrade is probably ill-advised anyway. It's also possible that the PC has a hardware problem. If erratic behavior continues, it's time to buy a new PC. I personally wouldn't take such an old machine to a tech to diagnose or fix.

I posted about Google Chrome a while back. I continue to be very happy with it. It is fast and simple to use, but once in a while a need a browser with more features for some sites. But as a PP mentioned you can have all the browsers you wish. I prefer Opera for reading since it has a 'rewind' button on it bringing you back to where you started with one click rather than having to flip through everything you just read.

Great example of the number of ads that appear with out using a browser that has ad block plus.
Firefox with ad block plus and easylist is what I use and never see an ad. LOVE IT.
Lindakathy I have mine mega zoomed too, have to with my visual problems, but that should not have to be done on a well designed website.

It appears not to be formatted for a wide screen monitor.

I have a 19" monitor, am using IE 8, no ad blocker. I don't see any ads, and the posts are all left-hand justified.

I'm using fire fox, it doesn't have the ads like your first pic, its more like the second one (chrome)
