Eileen, I can see 12 servings as a small side dish. Now kids who eat mac n' cheese as a meal...well, no. Let us know how it is. Of course I enjoy good ole' blue box every now and again but always add some real cheese to the mix. I love macaroni and cheese with sliced homegrown tomatoes. Yummy!

There is no way that 8 oz of any pasta is going to make 12 servings, not even as a side dish.

Hard to believe you could feed four kids a side of mac and cheese along with a main course with just 8 ounces of pasta.

I can't imagine macaroni cooked for hours in a crock pot....maybe it swells up so much it WILL feed 12?

I made crock pot mac and cheese once. It was really very good, and the only reason I don't make it more often in there is that I forget about it. Plus, I tend to freeze mine and bake it when I'm ready for it, and the crock-pot version makes a lot (so I can see 12 servings as a side). I don't know Trisha Yearwood's recipe, but mine had some eggs in it, which made it puff up nicely. It was actually much better than some of the meat that has come out of my crockpot, so if I could find that darn recipe, I might make it again.

I found a recipe on-line (link below) and it looks like the macaroni is an afterthought as something to bind the cheese to (LOL). The recipe contains TWO 10-ounce bricks of cheddar cheese (grated - or about 5-cups of cheese).

A serving of cooked pasta/macaroni is 1/2-cup (approx. 100-calories), which equals one bread/grain serving, and 1-ounce of cheese is a serving.
