Anyone else find the new Ethan Allen ads hilarious?

The new "modern living" Ethan Allen ads are cracking me up. They have some rockers, clad in black leather, one holding an electric guitar, posing with their furniture.

It seems so forced - look! Three people in black leather! Ethan Allen is not just for traditionalists! We're for rockers, too!

Anyone else seen these ads?

I thought you meant rocking chairs upholstered in black leather!

Just went to their site and sure enough there are the black clad rockers in part of it, you're right it's absurd and hilarious.

IMO Ethan Allen is currently in ruins. So sad, it was such a wonderful furniture store just a short time ago.

We recently spent almost $30K in Ethan Allen, Pasadena on a dining set and two sofas for our new condo. To make a long story short, the dining tabletop had significant flaws, blemishes, chipped corners and holes filled with putty. Don’t fool yourself with in-store samples. Once they have your money, you are stuck with what you get and no one takes responsibility for what has been delivered to your home. The accent pillows that came with the sofas did not match our selected material and did not include the surrounding fringes. Tiffany, the sales lady evidently had not placed the correct order according to our selected material. Despite sending pictures of our selected material to Greg the manager as well as Tiffany, both of them still refuse to take any responsibility and accept their mistake. After spending some $30 K in this store, they refuse to even replace $200 worth of pillows due to their own mistake. When you are in Ethan Allen, you think you’re dealing with a reputable company until the furniture is delivered. If you’re in the market for anything with after-purchase services and warranty, you’ll be better off avoiding Ethan Allen. Their sales tactics are just like entering car dealerships. Never again will I or anyone in my extended family shop at Ethan Allen. Don’t give them any of your hard-earned money. Horrible service, no accountability and their prices are very expensive. They deserve numerous negative stars, if any star at all.

I've bought quite a bit of EA New Impressions in the last 3 to 6 years and it says made in America. I've bought a few sofas and chairs over the years too and have been happy with them. The fabric and cushion inserts you choose can definitely make a difference in how it feels. Some of their furniture lines don't look as good to me as some of their other lines. I've looked at a lot of furniture out there and it is dominated by poorly made furniture. Ethan Allen seems better in that regard. I've also had Thomasville and find it about the same as EA. Our first bedroom set was EA and I still like it (40 years old). After 40 years, we are going to a king bed and I've found an excellent made in America furniture line called Copeland. It is more expensive than the EA (not too much), but the craftsmanship and the beauty of the wood really shows and I liked the styles.

Vee, sorry, I only just noticed your post to me about Death Comes to Pemberley. I don't watch Downton Abbey so haven't been following this thread. I can't remember what I said about the book either but the TV show looks interesting and I shall see if I can get an advance DVD download as I don't know when it will be shown here or it may have been on Foxtel satellite which I don't have. I don't get the time to watch everything I'd like on "Free to air" as it is! I have heaps of programs that sit in the recorder....

SJHockey, your tale had me LOL. The main thing that is driving me nuts is wall to wall carpet in our bedroom areas. We replaced carpet with new 7 years ago and shortly thereafter it started to pull away from the tack strips leaving us with crumpled carpet. When I was renovating the kitchen I had the LR carpet ripped out to continue the hardwood in the kitchen/breakfast area into the living room but we were leaving the carpet in the bedrooms. I asked our flooring man to have a crew come out to re-stretch the carpet. DH insisted that they didn't have to send a special crew out so the stretching didn't get done. Now all it would have taken was another phone call but did I? No..... it's been almost 2 years and we still have the crumpled carpet. I'm so disgusted with the carpet that I decided we are having it ripped out and installing hardwood instead. Our downstairs bathroom that DH uses is a nightmare. When we had it completed our handy man used the cheapest fixtures he could find. I promised myself that I would promptly have everything replaced but it's 19 years later and the only change is my DSIL put a Pergo floor in for DH. If we ever sell I will have to have the whole thing ripped out and redone because it's an embarrassment. =-qwa

I guess it should have been somewhat of a warning shot when we saw Bombay Company furniture and what Ethan Allen might become and it did and it has and it will.

I guess they are trying to capture a younger / more hip clientele ; rockers clad in leather are far fetched, but they got your attention, lol.....!!! so the ads work.

I noticed several pieces that I would not have associated with the name Ethan Allen automatically, I wonder if their stores have been remodeled to reflect their new image ?

They are odd.All theyre worried about is money.we ordered a beautiful sleigh bed.You had to pay a good bit upfriont.which was ok we I need balance now with charge card.I said Id rather not I would like to pay when they deliver so I can check it out make sure its not damaged.Oh no we need it now.well later here they came.We also bought a new fancy schmansy temperpedic mattress and box spring.He said go get a knife Ill cut plastic off mattress for you.I had a utility knife in craft room so I was back quick ,to find him repairing a section about 10" long they scraped along the way.He put like a gummy wax with stain you can see it plain as day.For the money I paid for that bed.No Im sorry, nothing.Im done with them.Theyre giving out deliveries to a lot of times kids who dont give a rats a%a% about the products.
Last Christmas my husband surprised me with the LG Tromm red washer and dryer,I was at dialysis so my daughter was here.They come in with the stands the washer and dryer stands on and it had this huge dent on top I mean it was 4" deep,It was big.she said oh no mom will be mad you cant leave that,The top of washer had alot of scratches on top looked like a used washer.sorry for ranting but geeze people.

I hope they don't go under too- maybe I should go order the chandelier I've been pining for before its too late.
I agree, the ads are ridiculous. Not sure what demographic they are trying to appeal to.

Face it, it's uber-cool to be traditional again! Let's all rush out & buy some Ethan Allen furniture so WE can be that cool, lol!

The biker-chic folks in the ad are having the time of their lives, prancing around all the stuff they previously thought only belonged in museums!

I love the image of the hip, young woman dressed in orange, lolling around on a canary-yellow camelback sofa. Who knew a camelback could be so hip? I'll see mine in a different light now!

You're right about the delivery guys. I had two guys who were not only late, but sweaty - they sweated all over my furniture. And they pay them peanuts.

I have Ethan Allen furniture from an era goneby and I was young and yes, probably more hip than I want to discuss at this time in my life, but the ads would have, at that point in my life, been a total turnoff. I was looking for stability in a crazy life. Ethan Allen offered it but they no longer do.

I can't get it to play again, but I swear I saw a clownish guy riding a bike around a dining room. Is that the delivery boy? Absurd!

Maureen, just played the ad again and you're right about the guy on the bicycle, he is dressed real goofy sort of like a mime, all in black & white with little boller (sp?) hat. Bizarre.

I saw that ad during the Today Show this morning.

Oh, it definitely caught my attention and not in a good way.

Came off as a desperate and failed attempt to be hip and/or humorous and was also lacking any kind of cohesive style or direction, imo.
Generally, it just seemed desperate.

Pray tell, what Demographic is that exactly?
Maybe 1/1000th of 1 percent of the general population?
Hipster/Rockers that watch television? The Today Show? lol
