It really is amazing, Dottie! I've had 3 knee replacements and cataract surgery. The lens I got are Technis multifocal and my vision is 20/20 for the first time ever! I'm delighted. I've been refurbished! LOL

Good for you. The technique is so improved today,. It is amazing. I can remember years ago a friend had this done and he had to hold his head a certain way for a week or two. He slept in a chair etc. Last summer another friend had it done and several days later she was playing golf.

It's just wonderful that this surgery can be done so effectively and with little inconvenience or discomfort.

Congratulations! I had a vitroectomy (sp?) done on one eye a year ago. I was such a basket case going into it--scared to death--but it was such a piece of cake! I was quite SURE I'd feel pain in that so called "twilight" anesthesia they give you--just couldn't IMAGINE that it would work--and it worked perfectly! I was aware and joking with the surgeon throughout the procedure and amazed when I was told it was done. Thank God for such advances in medicine!!

Are your movements restricted for a while (bending down, etc.)?

My husband had two cataract surgeries three weeks apart. No pain during surgery, just some itching afterwards, and he made a quick recovery. He can now read without glasses. The doctor fixed one eye for close vision, the other for distance. But DH still needs glasses for distance vision. He no longer drives, so that's not an issue.At first he was told to keep sitting up after surgery, no bending or lifting, no rapid eye movement so no TV or reading for the first few days. He had four different kinds of eye drops to use. So he needed household help (me, the wife) for a few days.

I hope you are like my husband and a couple of friends of mine, and your vision is so much better.

I'll be looking at this surgery one of these days, so it's great to hear all went well for you. Follow doctor's orders to a 'T' and heal fast.

Since I've been near-sighted (and astigmatic) for over 50 years, it's hard to think I could stop wearing glasses. (Not sure I can, with the astigmatism.)

I still wear glasses, because of astigmatism, but the surgery was a piece of cake. I did develop some "gunk" over the lens in one eye, but with a laser zip, it was gone and all cleared up. This was a couple of years after the surgery. I've now had both eyes done. Dot, did you notice difference in colors? When I came home after the first one, I was astounded to see that I had a blue house and a blue car. Always thought both were grey!

My DH is very pleased with his contact surgery. He had very poor vision - wore "coke glasses". They were able to put a technis lens on one side but didn't make a strong enough lens for the other. As the opthomologist said, she could have left a lens completely out and he could manage just as well. They put a standard one in. His vision is now 20/30 and for the first time since age 6, he doesn't use any glasses or contacts. One side set up for distance/one for reading. I've got cataracts forming and this gives me hope.

As I said the surgery was quick & easy. I had to do two kinds of drops three times a day for three days before, and will have to continue three kinds of drops for two weeks. Right now the eye is hazy but will improve in the nest day or so. Hubs had it done a little over a year ago, and he wore VERY thick lenses since he was 7, now he just uses light glasses for reading. I've heard that i will not believe how colors look. I'm looking forward to this. What spurred me on to get this taken care of, is, I have to renew my drivers license in April and it was doughtful i would pass the eye exam. Thanks for all of your kind words. Dottie

My mom just had her left eye done last week. Even though evryone she's talked to who has had it done told her that there was nothing to it, she was still scared. But I heard her talking on the phone with one of her friends the day after surgery and she told them that she CAN'T WAIT for the next one. She can already see much better and was told that over the next few days her vision will improve even more as swelling, etc. reduces.

Good for you Dottie! My mom got her second eye done 2 weeks ago. She had to be at the hospital 3 hours before her scheduled time, even though the surgery was only 15 minutes.

Her follow-ups met with rave reviews, as I'm sure yours will.
Just keep up the diligence with the eye drops. Mom had to put 3 different bottles in 4 times a day when she got out.

Glad you had an easy time. I think most people do. Please do remember the drops. It gets to be a pain to remember the times to do it, but important.

Dotmom, my friend, I'm so happy for you! It is amazing the advancement made even in just the last decade or two. A friend had several operations on her eyes 15 years ago or so and at the time it was amazing what could be done but today it's so simple.

And I'm one to believe that very often, simpler is better.

So, "simply" the best to you Dottie, have a speedy recovery, follow orders, and enjoy the world in a whole new light!

I just learned Thursday I have really bad cataracts and heve to have the surgery for them asap. It has been freaking me out since. REALLY Freaked and I was going to ask who could tell me their experience with this. Lo and behold here is a post with so many saying how well the surgeries went and how much easier they are since Grams day. I have a lot less fear of the actual procedure now just the Ewwwwww its to close to my eye nerves. I am going to call a few places tomorrow and see how soon I can have the procedure done.
Can someone give me a ball park cost because I don't have insurance and it comes out of pocket. I really dont need sticker shock to compound the nerves. LOL

Hi Dottie, I'm just wondering how you are feeling and how your eye is healing and how your vision has improved in 5 days. I was told there is rarely any complications or infections but lots of changes to the vision during the healing. Are the colors more vibrant? is everything clear and sharp again?

I have my surgeon consult on Feb 8 and I'm getting the jitters again. I was told I should be able to go back to my work after 5 days. I work on a computer all day 8-10 hrs and really have been nervous about the healing time more than the surgery itelf. I talked with a lot of people here and they all said this Doc is the best in our area so I have confidence in the surgery going well it is the afters I am jittery over.

Hi KT friends. It has been 5 days, and the eye is clearing up nicely. Actually I can see better withoout the glasses in that eye, but still need them for the other. I'm keeping up the drops 3 times a day and wear the patch when I sleep. One thing I find interesting is when I look out the un-done eye, everything has kind of a yellow hue, but things are so crystal clear and clean looking out of the new eye.I go for the week check up on tuesday and they might take the lens out of my glasses for the new eye, at least that is what they did for Hubs,
Liljunkr, it is easy for someone to say don't be nervous, but from someone who has just gone through this, truly, it was a piece of cake. For me the hardest part was arranging transportation, because, of course, we can't drive ourselves home from the hosp.DS took 2 days off from work, which Z so appreciated.
